How Often Should You Dry Clean Your Suit? | How To Clean & Care For Suits

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Whether you're wearing an off-the-rack suit, a made to measure suit, a custom suit, or a bespoke suit you will definitely want to take good care of it to prolong its life and get the most out of your money. Since keeping a suit clean and pressed is very important, one of the most common questions you may have is: how often should you dry clean your suit? While effective, dry cleaning your suit has many drawbacks, including that it is very tough on fabric and can lead to its deterioration. For those reasons, you should always consider dry cleaning your suit to be a last resort. In this video I'm going over how often to dry clean your suit, when to dry clean your suit, how to remove stains on a suit, and giving some menswear tips and advice on suit care tips and how to keep your suit clean in between trips to the dry cleaner. Enjoy!

Hey Bryan, just came across your channel and I must say I love the content. I was sceptical at first but it ended up as honest passionate content about what you love. I also give praise when you mentioned you dont know the things you dont know. - I was sceptical and careful because most popular mens channel always are about selling products. If for instance you spoke on suits its about selling that product over what should have been mentioned. - Other mens channel prey on insecurities of men. Such as "Do this to get girls" "Daily routine of a CEO" "Things that make you ugly" - I understand it's your channel and you also bring bread to your table. Your choices are yours to make. Its really refreshing for something honest, authentic and something that teaches you about the world of fashion. Thank you, stay safe in these tiring times and much success to you. Mike Tyson recently said in a podcast to Lil Wayne about keep pushing dont stop. Despite him being tricked and cheated over. Losing lots of money. Mike said you dont know the future, you'll make twice as much as you did. So, no one knows the further Bryan, in that regard - Yours is bright.

Hey, I have an issue with my tweed jacket. I can't completely get rid off the smell in the armpit area. Even after the dry cleaning a hint of a smell is always present in this area. Once I've washed it with a delicate soap and it helped a bit, but surely repeating it will destroy the jacket in the longer run. Do you think, that using steam onto the armpit area would be helpful in getting rid off the smell? Sidenote: of course I use a deodorant and I shower regularly, however I do perspirate a lot and thus after a whole day a jacket definitely needs some refreshment. Cheers!

Great video. Let's also mention, go to a "good dry cleaner". I had this gorgeous Zegna suit for over 10 years and always took it to a dry-cleaner who had won national awards in their industry for quality service. You just saw dozens of wedding dresses waiting to be cleaned. It was probably 20% more expensive than other cleaners. But the actual dollar amount wasn't much more. Totally worth it. The one time I took my suit to a dry-cleaner I didn't know much about, they RUINED my suit. It had that 'shiny' look to it. It was stiff. It looked 'okay' after a few wearings. But, the suit was basically over. 10 years of great service. I do as much research on dry-cleaners as I can before taking my things to them. You're usually pretty safe if they are in a good/great neighborhood. I don't know remember if I cheaped-out on the service. I think I was just trying another place out and they looked to offer good service. I had to drive 30 minutes for the other place and this one was much closer. Maintenance is so important. Not even with just expensive clothing. Your clothes can look so much nicer for a much longer time with some knowledge of maintenance. And that maintenance usually doesn't take long. A simple shoe polish only takes 5 minutes or so. I've worn $60 shoes that I've received compliments on just because of the condition I keep them in.

Great video on the care for your suit! Working in the industry we do our best to educate our clients on how to properly care for their suits. Luxury fabrics have to be treated with a lot of care. Another couple good points, never put anything in your trousers pockets, never put anything in your outside jacket pockets, except for a pocket square in the boat pocket (casual patch pockets maybe....maybe) use the inside breast pockets for business cards, slim wallets and your phone (just make sure it doesn’t bulk out). Also, when you sit down and you’re not in a formal setting, take your jacket off. Lastly, wear your trousers at the proper waist (above the hips, just below the belly button). All these things help with the shape and wear and tear of your suits!

Then where do you put things such as keys, rolls of chap stick and small bottles of pills? I have to carry keys. How else will I get into and out of my apartments. I need chap stick for my lips as they can get chapped a bit easily, especially in the winter. I have the misfortune of living in the northeastern US and, sadly, I don’t have the means to move out. Unfortunately, I have some minor health problems that force me to carry a small bottle of pills that, fortunately, is not bulky. Where do I put these items when I dress up if not in my coat, pants or waistcoat pockets? I refuse to carry any kind of bag.

Trousers should be hung up from the Cuffs overnight after wearing and purchase a Trouser Press, One of the best purchases you can make. And yes Dry Clean only when absolutely necessary.

Yes, but it depends a good deal on the quality of the fabric. The higher quality the fabric, the easier wrinkles will steam out. Okay but I can go forever without getting any stains or smells on my suit. Does that mean I should not dry clean my suit for months or even a year? The jacket you really don’t need to clean as often but the pants are in direct contact with your legs and they can get sweaty...

I would recommend to dry clean the suit / jacket or blazer and the pants together. Just in case there would occur a slight difference in the color. Otherwise you would risk a color contrast between the two.

Well hold on, what about the pants lol, just wash them in the wash? I was a Paul barer today and it was raining, plus the suit had been sitting uncovered for years so it definitely needs to be washed. I’d imagine the pants need to be washed after every couple times you use them at least lol I imagine the pants aren’t that hard to wash and steam/iron. Most modern irons double as a steamer as well anyway

Special trick : If you don't have a thick wooden hanger, using TWO standard plastic hangers will still greatly reduce indentation, as there is a wider shelf and it works better.

@@sjoerd73 I recently tried washing a suit in the bathtub. I bought the suit from a Charity Shop and dry cleaning it ( In Melbourne Australia) would have cost twice as much as the cost of the suit. I remembered that it is recommended that you use pure soap to wash woollen jumpers, so I bought a bottle of a popular "Wool Wash" and followed the instructions. I only let it soak for about 20 minutes, then drained the soapy water out of the bath tub and refilled it twice with clean water to rinse out the soap mix. I laid the suit out flat in the tub and only gently pushed up and down on the suit with the palm of my hands. I avoided squeezing the fabric. Then I left it in the tub for 15 minutes to drain before I laid towels over a normal clothes dryer and put outside in the shade to dry. Short Story ----- Follow the instructions on the Wool Wash bottle, then iron the dry suit with an ironing cloth. I just used a pure cotton hanky and it worked a treat. But you need to be patient. Phil.

@@vineetpalkar6041 the answer is there. If there is odor, or stain that can't be taken out with the mentioned procedures.... then you take it. Else you don't send it to the dry cleaner. Think about it this way, every time you send it to the dry cleaner, the garment looses one life..
