"Turning wide" is an offense in the US? Here in EU it's basically standard. Well, in 99% of the cases there will be just a lane to follow: if there's more lanes to turn into, there's usually an equal amount of lanes to turn from. Very rarely we'll have the opportunity of choosing a lane while making a turn. But if there is one: here we use speed lanes; meaning you always have to go as far right as you possibly can and you're only allowed to overtake on the left (meaning the left lane = faster than middle lane and the right lane = slowest). Getting caught overtaking on the right side here will give u a huge fine (in the $300-400 range).
