How (NOT) To Make A Watch Box

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This is a watch box I made to store the watches I use the most to be able to switch between them quick and easily. It works perfectly for the digital Casio watches I use but not as good for the regular watches.

Great design! Some watches, however, come with clasped bands which do not open up completely, which is a problem with the bridge supports. It might be a good idea to change the support bridge to a semi-floating bridge that is open on the one side (or even both), thus allowing the watch's band to be "threaded" under the bridge. As a bonus, with both sides being open, the watch would appear to be supported by nothing. Yes, some clever design might be needed to support the bridges from the bottom, or just lower down.

I love the contrast color, my suggestion is first: print the box and that dark grey; second: the inside box make in wood walnut with leather supports; finally the walnut cover with a tribal pattern (made in the laser machine) and the clock figure made in brass. 😃

Loved ypur process throughout the whole project. I really like the magnet idea for the lid and the inlay of the clock face.

Holy moly, do you keep a genuine PP in a magnet box? I like the design and the idea of a DIY watch box, but as a watch enthusiast I strongly disapprove of magnetism near mechanical watches, as they are semi permanently affected until demagnetized. The swivel thing is really cool, maybe do some hatches and avoid magnets all together. Nice project!

Bro, I actually love everything about this video. I'm also faced with the same problem, currently I have all my watches laid out on my computer desk. I really love you solution, the design is excellent and beautiful. I also have a 3d printer that I use for little things around the house and I love mine too, however for this, I sort of think an all wood box might be better. I know it would be more work, but when I think long term, I wonder if the 3d printed box will be around in 20+ years. I don't know, sometimes I get in this mode of thinking where I think I want to make things that will out live me, so other people, weather it be my kids or whoever out there can enjoy things I create way after I'm gone. On the other hand sometimes you just need something for the now. great job my man

A really stylish look! But you should have a inlay of a digital watch on the lid for the digital ones, if anything to tell the boxes apart. I mean, we do want to save time! 😁

Nice build. I would suggest that you include a hanger attached to each wall (divider) instead of what you designed. Just a simple hanger screwed to each wall. Or you could run 2 thin metal shafts through the dividers instead. Also, increase the height of the box so that the watch straps don't interfere as much when you hang the watches. I think magnets are not ok if you were to hang a smart watch. I think it would miss up the memory and the screen.

I agree! Making it higher would let the watches rest better on the "shelves". And as you say, magnets aren't ideal. Might update it in the future. thanks for watching

Did you consider making the bottom deeper, so that there was more room for the bans to hang downward? That may alleviate the need for the magnets. It looked like the ends of the band's were bottoming out, forcing the Watch bodies upward. Also, if you want this in all wood, a single strip of wood across the top of the bottom box would do fine and not require all the pillars. So you could build a basic box, cutting an insert area for the crossbar, lay in the bar, and put the same sort of top on.

2:28 “adding a magnet…” - magnets and watches with moving parts sounds like a *very* bad idea, even if they’re not running.

Create a round impression that the watch rests into, and then the wrist band dangles above and below. The watch would therefore be nested in its nest box. All you have to do is lay the watch down into the box no fussing around with pillows.

this fascination with magnets everywhere is not good. It is design bodge, quick and dirty fix, but not really an option since you have to cut eligible watches basicly in half. Or risk having watch which does not show the correct time. You say that pillow takes too much time? seriously? if it takes you under 30 seconds, thats just being annoyed for no reason. And trying wo wiggle the watch in the slot, does not look fast either :) lid is fire though, but again, there is a reason why most of the watch cases have see through window. good job over all :)

Thanks for your input! I will probably make another version that is without the magnets and just keep the lid. The pillows is one thing that still bothers me both for the time, but also regarding dust. They tend to get dusty as well as the glas lids they put on their watch boxes. It needs some maintenance to look really good.

I think you shouldnt need the support under the watch bar.. as its a straight line and you have the dividers there, your printer should bridge it easily.. It might not be beautiful on the underside, but you will never see it.

Your watches are all at different times sitting next to each other. This does not sit well with me. As per previous comment, all digital timepieces with analogue symbol on lid. Close but no cigar. On a positive note, happy to see experimentation.
