The thing is that QBs are almost always the most important players on the team. You almost never see teams with bad quarterbacks doing well, and even if they are they can never truly be great. Look at the Vikings and Cowboys, mid QBs and they're known for being mid at best. Also, offensive player of the year doesn't mean they're the most valuable to their team, there's a lot of players that are more important to their teams than JJettas

If you think about it there should be Offensive lineman in the talk for the MVP race because if your o line is ass than you don't have the plays you do. Granted if you have a QB like Mahomes, Burrow, Lamar, Josh Allen Qb's that can extended a play than yes they are deserving of being in the race, but theres a limit to how many times a game they can do that and you got guys like Trent Williams, Lane Johnson, Jason Kelce, Quinton Nelson some Premium pass blocks that protect the "precious" QB's and let them do their job.

QBs will always win MVP because it always has, and always will be the most valuable position on the field, in all of sports. The rare exceptions (AP and LT) are also narrative driven, to your point. Yeah is lame that a QB wins the award every year, but that's also because no matter how great a skill position player is, they'll never be more valuable than an elite quarterback.

Without jj the Vikings would be significantly worse. You can make the same argument for the chiefs if Patrick Mahomes wasn’t playing for them. The criteria should be the most impactful player. K9 snubbed he was a major factor as to why the Seahawks made the playoffs
I agree besides the Geno Smith take, it's not the coming back from injury award, it's Comeback player, Geno his whole career in the league never played amazing he came back from a ton of adversity, being a back up and completely balled out when people thought Seattle would finish with the number 1 overall pick he overcame expectations drastically, there were reports Seattle had the worse QB room in the league before the start of the season. He earned that reward.

How everyone thinks Sauce is better than Tariq is beyond me. Sauce Gardner has 2 less TDs allowed and 4 more PDs, while Tariq has a lower passer rating allowed, 3x the Ints on 20 less targets, 5x the turnovers, less yards and comp% allowed, and higher shadow rate among other things. Not to mention Tariq is bigger, faster, he has better ball skills and better hip movement. While Sauce did play better receivers, Tariq didn’t play terrible ones either. He shut down D-Hop, Davante, DJ Moore, and Garrett Wilson. Tariq 100% should be DROY and the fact that only 1 of 50 AP voters thought that as well is absolutely wild.

I would use the following structure. Offensive MVP Best QB Best Offensive Skill (other than qb) Best Offensive Lineman Defensive MVP Best Defensive Line Best Linebacker Best DB This is basically how most high school associations do their awards and I think it works super well. It still keeps the awards rate while giving out a proper amount of recognition. Something you forgot to mention was all pro which is not like the pro bowl since it is voted on by players. All pro kind of takes care of recognition for a lot of guys.
the most real man out here papa your the goat
"Watch live 3x a week" …hasn't been live for over a week.
A suggestion from a friend of mine, they said there should be a MIP or Most Improved Player and used Geno Smith as an example instead of this kind of thing overlapping Come Back Player of the Year as CMC and Saquon Barkley find that award better.
I remember this year where jj watt got 20.5 sacks and 5 tds and got snubbed of mvp 5 ff and 5 fr
Matt is right but also wrong about the MVP award because yes the QB is the most impactful position in football and is what is needed the most for a team to be successful, the Jets whole roster is good except their QB same with the Colts and Saints and Pats sometimes on some teams their QB isn't their most impactful player, for example, Kirk was not the most impactful on the Vikings it was JJettas same thing with the Jets, Sauce Gardner was their best player in his rookie season. So instead of calling the MVP the most valuable player it should be called the most valuable passer and the opoy should be the most impactful of the year so basically, there would be an MVP for only QBs and then an MVP for other positional players that were very impactful for their teams success or outcome.
We need an official O Lineman of the year big guys need that love wen they putting all these guys on there back
They need to have a OL and DL award, as a unit for both awards. Also, I agree with what youre saying with rewording or making separate awards for most improved or best coaches/ players

Maybe try the NHL form of awards where there is a goal to accomplish like the art ross is for the player that scores the most points. So the NFL superlative could be most touchdowns accounted for or something in the regards of that it make it more interesting cause they would statistically win that award
The reason that it is a QB dominant award is because QB is the most important single position on a team. When a QB has a great season it will most likely translate into regular and postseason success. When a RB has an amazing season it is much less likely to translate into that same level of success. Just look at the RBs to win a superbowl over the last 20 years. When a QB leads the league in QB stats while leading his team to a great record, he deserves to win the award. To further prove the importance of the QB, look at the last 20 QBs to win a superbowl. They are all hall of famers besides Brad Johnson but he had one of the best defenses this league has ever seen. I do however agree that defensive players, especially pass rushers are overlooked. Pass rushers are just as important to team success as the QB in my opinion. Again look at the last 20 super bowl winning teams, they all have an elite pass rush. So in the case of a legendary defensive season like JJ Watt's 2014 season, they should at the very least be up for consideration.
They probably should rename the award
Kickers need more recognition in this to. Btw kick with me?
idk maybe its just me but valuable to me is defined by the impact you have on your team and the qb is the only player who has the ball in his hand every play hell be more valuable than a receiver who might get 10 touches per game
4:30 Nah CMC or derrick henry should have won Comeback because what a lot of people don’t realize is that saquon still played 13 games and played 16 this year but cmc played like 7 last year and henry played only 8

here is the criteria for cbpoy: it is typically given to a player who shows perseverance in overcoming adversity from not being able to play the previous season, such as an injury, or *for playing well in comparison to the previous year's poor performance* If a player can come back from such adversity or play at a high level over the previous year, they will usually be favored to win the award. How about coming back from nearly a decade of having a stigma that you suck on top of having a shitty previous season. I didn’t see anyone complaining when Tannehill won it a couple of years ago for similar reasons. This was Genos award to win, there are two sides to this award. Not to mention Geno got sucker punched in the jaw and it was pretty much shattered, and that effectively ruined his career.

I used to agree with him on the QB thing, I would always complain, but now I’m on board with the idea a QB winning unless someone else stands out similar to AP. It’s probably the toughest position in sports. Entire defenses and coaching staffs scheme against you all week. Also, probably no position gets more criticism than the QB. Everyone points at the QB if the offense sucks, unless the o-line or play calling is to abysmal that fans see for themselves that the QB was set up for failure. His argument against QBs was showing the QBs who won MVP and act like they might not have all deserved it… the QBs on that list are some of the MOST ELITE players in the history of the NFL. Brady, manning, mahomes, Matt Ryan that season, Lamar Jackson his season… hard to say these guys are not the most deserving for such an award.
Zeke was a mvp finalist his rookie year but dak won rookie of the year
You say the most impactful player on thier team yet Mahomes took us to the superbowl with juju and mvs
George Pickens should’ve got offensive rookie of the year
you should rank the last 10 super bowls based of how good of a game they were
Will MMG ever go live again?
i get why qbs win the majority of mvps, but i don’t get why qbs can also win offensive player of the year when that’s the case. it just isn’t fair to other position players who had outstanding seasons and deserved it just to get snubbed for the only award that they can win, since mvp just isn’t attainable. like yea qb is almost always the most valuable position on the field, so give the best one an mvp, but since that’s basically just a qb award opoy should exclude qbs
the positional awards are basically the all pro teams
Hi MMG!

Interestingly a receiver, TE or secondary player has never won MVP. There have been almost all QBs, some running backs, a few FB, 2 defensive players, and 1 kicker. I honestly would have said Cooper Kupp should have won NFL MVP last year. Triple crown with 145 c, 1965 all purpose yds, and 16 tds. If he didn't win it a receiver is never winning it.
