🌱 How Nepenthes Seedlings Evolve And Grow ⌛ What Is Happening To Your Seeds Between 5 And 14 Weeks

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

After you sow some nepenthes seeds, how do nepenthes seedlings evolve?
How do they grow? What's happening to your seeds between 5 and 14 weeks?
Now that you have sown your seeds, you will see that you will need a lot of patience.
Seedlings grow very slowly but you can already identify which plants will be of interest among all these babies.
0:00 This video will be in 5 part:
0:58 Part 1: 5 weeks after sowing nepenthes seeds
4:06 Part 2: 7 weeks after sowing nepenthes seeds
5:51 Part 3: 10 weeks after sowing nepenthes seeds
8:33 Part 4: 14 weeks after sowing nepenthes seeds
10:15 Part 5: How to take care of the seeds and seedlings

    This was cool to see the developement. I have some that just sprouted. Took about 4 weeks for me. I'm very happy because one is true ventricosa crossed from my own pair. So it's nice to hopefully introduce new pure ventricosas for other growers in a few years. According to Predatory Plants, seedlings aren't ready for sale or trade until three years of age. But we'll see. Some might grow faster as you said.

    @@WindowsillNepenthes Well I still haven't perfected my technique but I am happy to find seeds opening today. Planted Sept 2 and today Sept 30 there are some baby plants. I use a very different technique than you. I will make a video soon but have seeds left over and hope to try your method. I have some older videos showing my pair of a female ventricosa K and a regular no name red male ventricosa.

    Hey Remy, you mentioned keeping the seedlings around 19-20 C, but do you provide them any temperature change like your mature plants?

  • @WindowsillNepenthes

    @WindowsillNepenthes

    I can't provide them the drop temperature, but I also choose intermediate species or hybrids so they are more adaptable.

    Really interesting video, thanks. I boutht my first nepenthes this past summer (covid therapy...lol) from a local florist (I'm in Ontario, east of Toronto) just a basic plain one and it didn't do much until last fall when I turned a bedroom into a hot room with good LED grow lights and re-potted it, then it really took off. I'd like to try growing some from seed, but not sure who are the reputable seed sellers. Wondering if you could post where/who you got your seeds from as you had an amazing germination rate. Enjoying your videos, thanks for putting them out. :-)

    Those are nepenthes hybrids. {[(lowii x veitchii) x boschiana] x (northiana x maxima)} but we call them LVB x NM. But really any kind on nepenthes hybrids are good depending on your condition.

    So exciting every time that make exotics such a surprise for success and granted the losses but depending on the cost, a cup of coffee (I grind my beans et al) for those that have the money (I'd rather bet on life in a seed and the thrill at the start) Have Drosophyllum lusitanicum seeds sprouting (put that in a previous comment that is happening now, so it's kill or cultivate?) Pay the entrance fee, study and see. Haha, I have label printer and never thought to use it? Lots of labels and now instead of using a pencil as they don't fade away or a marker that does, I print out a label for each tab. Wish I had done that 50+ years ago with multi species plants especially Tillandsia that I have hundreds of an don't know one from the other ... special cross, rare et al.

    Thank you for doing this video! The most important thing I got out of it is what these seedlings take a long time to grow, and to not panic if nothing happens after 4 weeks. By the way, I can understand that humidity is crucial for seedlings, but what happens when you have larger plants and you want to grow them indoors? My apartment currently has a humidity level of 40 to 50%. Is that ok for Nepenthes adults that start vining?

  • @WindowsillNepenthes

    @WindowsillNepenthes

    Thanks for the comment. Around 50% is good for most of the intermediate species. :) If you check my *interview #2* , Ryu have that and his nepenthes grow well.

    @@KENTOSI i would say that most intermediate plants (especially hybrids) can be acclimated to lower humidity levels. I used to keep a humidifier next to my N. Miranda but I got tired of having to fill it every day and it’s doing just as good without one now at 50% humidity.
