How Muslims Developed the First Psychiatric Hospitals in the World | Holistic Healing with Dr. Rania
The earliest presence of mental health hospitals can actually be traced back to 7th or 8th century Baghdad! Now, when people think about mental health institutions from the past, they often think of prison-like cells and abominable treatment. That was not the case in these early Muslim institutions. Join Dr. Rania Awaad as she describes the first homes of healing found throughout the Muslim world.
This series is in collaboration with the Stanford Muslim Mental Health Lab.

I study psychology. I can remember the classes about history of mental health care. These hospitalities wasn't mentioned at all. We only learned about the first European institutions, which was really shocking, e.g. Narrenturm in Vienna founded 18th century. It was like the rest of the world wouldn't exist. Classic European egocentrism 😂👍

Islam is beautiful and the straight way. Please learn more about it. You will be left in awe.
As an architectural researcher this video was very interesting, the way they chose the site for the mental hospitals shows inclusivity and true care for the patients.
There are videos on KZread that I just click the like button before watching because I am so sure that I would love them. This is one of them
Thank you for sharing this. As a Christian I will be forwarding this so that this heard and passed on 🙏🏽
Assalamu'alaikum. MashaAllah, thank you for sharing this. A suggestion for future videos: is it possible for you to enable the CC? For many people not speaking English as their first language, it would be very helpful to have the subs turned on (even the auto-generated ones). Jazakallahu khairan.

Masyaa Allah, jazakillahu khayran Dr. Rania
HI Dr Rania! I presented this topic this weekend in a local salon gathering in Dubai, how did the Abbasid era influence modern mental health & your work was inspiration to that. Many people were very fascinated by the topic as so many didn’t know of the connect. I feel that learning about how these scholars contributed to psychology has brought dignity to the concept of mental health. And this has also showed me the unfortunate ignorance in the Muslim community although we always heard of the mental anguish and sorrow of the prophet PBUH and the Sahaba and other family members!

Asalam Alaikum we rahmatullah we barakatu. I wonder, which role nurses - male and female - had, besides the ward-guards mentioned. If available, Being a male nurse since 1994, I would really appreciate further information. Sincerely from Germany.

I would have preferred to read what you are saying. We actually stopped the meds the drs prescribed to my brother coz it does nothing. food sups and herbs calms him better than the prescribed drugs.
بیمارستان is a Dari/persian word
Trust in Allah not in Doktah.
But then times it wasn't your ancestors living in Baghdad it was my ancestors
I don't know where you people came from maybe from Africa or something but you people definitely were not Arabs in the 7th or 8th century
