Being a songwriter with a fairly good grasp of music licensing and how complex, confusing, and BORING it is, I thought this video was so good! Probably not for people who have to understand the basics, but to music publishers and to anyone like me who has attempted to explain music publishing to anyone, this is a gem of a video! Nope! As long as you are using another's work, it is still copyright. You'd be liable for copyright violations on every song you are using.

What if *someone wrote a song with 1 note* and *only played that 1 note once*? Would you still need to get a license* to play that *1 note?* Because technically it’s a sing and you said that it doesn’t matter the length of the song used.

Yes, because they own the recording of that one note. It's not really possible to own a copyright of a single note, so if you were to make a recording using that one single note it would be okay.

7:16 Yeah you "don't" have that extra cost but thats like a hidden fee the local tv stations often don't even understand and have to pay which can sour the relationship. Kind of unfair to advertise it that way. Really hinders the whole process with getting an ad on local tv.

If I pay a subscription for epidemic sound to use music on youtube. Could I post that video on my website?

Hey Alexandre! I'm not 100% positive on the terms with Epidemic so you may want to check with their customer service department, but I'm 99% sure you'd be covered. If a song artist *writes a song with a team* do they have to have a copyright license?

If an artist is writing a song with a team, the copyright and royalty distribution is usually mapped out during the creation process.

Are the *songs* on the *NoCopyrightSounds* channel free? Are they copyrighted? Edit: There have been popular youtubers using the songs from *NoCopyrightSounds*

They still own the copyright to their works and may require specific actions/ restrict specific use cases to their tracks. We recommend reaching out to the owner of the channel to understand what these actions/ restrictions are. They may require you to credit the artist, allow them to monetize your content, or restrict certain countries or territories from viewing their music.

Got a question for just dance games!!! I noticed some songs have original versions then the others have cover. How do they do the cover one if they can't get the original? Plus they add songs from previous just dance games to unlimited and new ones of course. For the previous ones when they add them to unlimited every year a new just dance game comes out. Do they have to keep saying hey do we have the rights? Every year? Or is that onba contract thing they can sign and say hey you can keep putting music on the platform for ammouts of years

What about for commercials? I’ve been getting into advertising lately but commercial use music seems very rare, especially the free ones. But where can I go?

So, it's a common misconception that crediting an artist in the description of your video makes you free and clear of copyright responsibilities. The only way to get around them in 99% of cases is gaining rights to the track via licensing.

Is it true that if the song was created *70 years ago* it is free to use?

Not necessarily. There is such a thing as public domain, where a work's general copyright expires. That being said, it's not guaranteed a song will be immediately added to public domain after 70 years. There will also be copyright on individual recordings of that song. Say, for example, an orchestra performed a Beethoven song that was in public domain. That orchestra would own the copyright to their own performance. Even though the song was free to use, you'd still need their permission to use their recorded performance of it.

They are two separate things. You can't mix them up and clearly explain copyright because the rules and contracts for each can be very different.

The paid license requirement is a violation of my first amendment rights
