Yes, $900 USD is enough to survive in Thailand but it's not a good quality of life. In order to have a good retirement, you'd need at least $2K USD or even better, $3K USD per month. In Thailand, having a budget of $2K to $3K is equivalent to having a budget of $5K to $6K in the United States. In Bangkok, the minimum wage is 400 Baht per day or $11.75 USD per day. The cost of living is very cheap because Thai laborers are paid very little compared to laborers in western nations. In Thailand, you can get a 1-hour Thai massage for about $15 USD or less and in the USA, that same 1-hour massage could cost about $100 USD.

It's interesting to see how much one needs to retire in Thailand and how affordable it can be compared to other countries. It's definitely something to consider if you're planning your retirement or looking for a change of scenery.

Wrong math. Forty two years is 504 months. 504 months x $900.00 = $453,600, not $150,000. Also inflation is left out of the equation.

You’re not taking it all out at once. You’re taking it as needed. The remaining is still earning compound interest.

Of course, if you earned and saved in US or Europe, it is easy to retire in Thailand, Philippine, Indonesian Burma etc….. local people hard to reach $150k in saving ….

I think you don't understand sequence of returns risk. You'd be seriously rolling the dice taking this risk. If you had $50k in cash reserves it's probably doable.
