    The HDFury solves problems, it doesn't do any video processing (I'll need to explain this to Matt) but what it does do is unlock Dolby Vision so the source device if it can do Dolby Vision, it will push the metadata via LLDV or VS10 and the HDFury will send the signal to the projector, and if you tick the box for enable HDR, it will allow the tone mapping to be pushed to the projector. This makes the JVC look insanely good with Dolby Vision content showing on it without having to do any trickery on your players.

    The double doors turned out great. The original ideal was a big and heavy sliding door. Due to heights restrictions and the presence of a gas line (that I was not going to pay to move), the double doors became the next best option. The two downsides to them over a sliding door was some light leak and vibrations. Both were fixed with a little weather striping and some felt padding on the top of the door on the closers

    So much of my setup has changed since I have the "copper" in-walls that it would be hard for me to fairly compare them. I was very pleased with them, but the 8000 series are incredible. If you're happy with the performance and sound of what you're using, no need to upgrade IMO. If you're looking to upgrade, these would be a nice upgrade for you. Best recommendation is to always try and listen to them in person, but that's tricky sometimes if they are not setup in a show room

    What a great video to show off an amazing space! Reference is intolerable with proper amps and speakers. When I put in my new 18 inch subs, I found that I could lower volume by 5 db as I was previously turning up only for the bass enjoyment. -20 to -15 is my jam, so totally agree with you guys. LOVE the seats, going light color that are matt was a pro level design move. Shows a lot of thought and they are dark at low level. The external amps.. AVOID, because once you listen to your speakers with them it will be your #1 upgrade no question. The screen isn't that important compared to the amps imho. Do that later of it at all. Time to get rid of the smaller subs up front if they are beside the big one? Not sure if they remained there? 16:9 content shining on the sub would personally bother me. The fun upgrade will be larger subs if your a bass head like myself. 4.0 could be to be for a ATS screen that can hide subs? The LS12000 is amazing for me. Was your projector actually an upgrade? If so, how? I do see my perforated screen in high light situations on my 170 inch screen. Perhaps later I will go with a woven ATS screen next. Could not imagine a better bang for the buck than the Epson LS12000. What model to you have now and what makes the new one better? Are you planning on row 2 for seating?

    I am curious how reference would sound if I had separates vs my existing Denon. It might change my mind? I have my 18s up front and the 12s in the back. The b-roll used in the tour was used just to show size comparison. The thumbnail of the video shows the current setup. Can't hide the subs currently without a full demolition of the room. I'm in a basement and the screen wall is on an outside wall. No interest in tearing everything down just to hide them. Besides, it's fun to see them :) JVC NP5 is an upgrade is most ways over the Epson. Epson wins on the overall light output, startup time, and longevity of light output due to laser. Gaming is also "better" if you do competitive gaming. JVC provides better contrast, better details in black levels, better HDR experience due to dynamic tone mapping. I wanted to be able to professionally calibrate and JVC is better for that as well since I calibrate for both SDR and HDR whereas the Epson shares settings across both. JVC fan noise on high lamp mode is the only downside that I've found so far compared to the Epson. I could get crazy bright output on the Epson with the fan in low mode. To achieve on the NP5, that fan has to crank to dissipate the heat from the bulb heat. The Epson is a great projector and I have nothing bad to say about it. JVC is just the next step beyond it. I highly recommend both.

    @@TorinTPG thank you for the great reply!! I would encourage you if you value clarity in sound to grab an amp for your front stage. The cheapest form of amplification that is decent is the outlaw 7xxx series, and anything 125w or less is not enough. Found one that could do 200w a channel and there is a reason that hearing amped sound outside the receiver is so popular. Your Denon is taking a small wattage and having to split it into fractions. If you look at the power each speaker can handle it is being starved to death. If you love something let them go.... As in let them loose! Wish you lived close, I could drop an amp by. Maybe if you can request a meetup in AVSForums for your area, you could get a free test drive. Your theater is most excellent! Thank you for taking the time to share it using so much effort. I can see you do everything well that you touch.

    How dramatic was the improvement from the Epson 12000 to the JVC NP5?

  • @TorinTPG

    @TorinTPG

    Жыл бұрын

    It's hard for me to measure "how dramatic" of an improvement it is because I'm basing it off of my opinion entirely vs. any real measurements. In my opinion of the two: - Black Levels - JVC is the winner for sure. Epson does a great job with the dynamic laser dimming, but the NP5 still has the better black levels and details maintained within the dark scenes - Startup Time - laser vs. bulb - no competition here. Epson is the clear winner - Brightness - Epson has a higher overall light output, but it does it through it's dynamic mode. Dynamic is a lot of fun, but it is not accurate for calibration purposes (per my understanding). The higher laser output also makes for some "grey" black bars. NP5 has a great output and is much more controlled. If you have ambient light in your room, go with Epson. If you're in a light controlled room, NP5 - HDR - HDR on projectors is an interesting topic. Projectors (in general) cannot display a "real" HDR image because they cannot reach the peak brightness that a TV can. PJs get around this by using different tricks and algorithms to try and boost the image for more HDR effect. The results - Accuracy - while I've not calibrated yet (need more hours on my bulb), NP5 calibrates much better and more accurately than the Epson will. Epson is not bad, but NP5 just beats it. NP5 is the winner here Gaming - I've not done much gaming yet on my NP5, but Epson is a BEAST for gaming. Very low input latency and a very bright light output in dynamic mode = a lot of fun. NP5 is not shabby and has a low input latency as well. Epson is better here Hope this helps!

    I made a comment here earlier, but it didn't post LS12000 is a great projector. The quick startup time is great since it is laser. The dynamic mode was a lot of fun. You'd be hard to find any major issues on the LS12000 (especially after their firmware updates). Gaming is also great due to the very low input latency. I've not had a ton of time yet with the NP5, but the picture is superb on it. "JVC blacks" are awesome and it's a real thing. I believe the contrast ratio is 4-5x higher than what the Epson can do (I've not tested with a meter, but basing this off of others results that have calibrated). Dynamic tone mapping is very nice feature so that you aren't playing with a HDR slider like the Epson has. Building quality on the JVC makes the Epson look like a toy. For calibration, you can setup both SDR and HDR settings on the JVC

On the Epson, fan runs on low with the laser set at 75% or lower. Above that, it cranks up and is noisy. On the JVC, you get low or high bulb mode. Low is silent, high is when the fan cranks. • @BuildMontage

    @BuildMontage

    Жыл бұрын

    I've tested both as well (just to weigh in) and the fan noise on the NP5 is not even noticeable for me. The best feature of the JVC is it switches to low lamp mode for SDR so when you're in the quiet menu systems, you don't hear it. I much prefer HDR with high lamp mode, so it kicks in but you don't hear it over the sound of the movie (unless it's a super quiet movie) - there are things you can do with the JVC to run it on low lamp mode for HDR, but it requires increasing the gamma which will then affect the amazing black levels that JVC is renown for. PQ wise hands down the NP5 is better - I get 100nits in HDR mode with high lamp - which is super bright.

    Wait… you went from an Epson LS1200 to the JVC N *P* 5? But why? I love the JVCs and I know they are the kings of contrast but why on earth would you buy a lamp projector in 2023/2024!? That just seems insane…

  • @BuildMontage

    @BuildMontage

    3 ай бұрын

    Um... that's a little strange thing to think. The NP5 is a far superior projector to the LS12000B. Bulb light isn't inferior to laser, in fact, you get better colour accuracy generally from a bulb than laser - the tech is still very new. I own the Np5 personally and it's insanely good and measures just as well as the higher end JVC lasers.

  • @TorinTPG

    Laser is the trend and I welcome it (lots of advantages), but laser does not automatically = better. The tech will catch up soon and the price point will work itself out. Owning both the Epson LS12000 and the JVC NP5, NP5 is the easy winner for my setup. For video content (movies, steaming, etc), JVC is (about) impossible to beat currently at its price point. Each setup is unique and Epson has some advantages over the JVC. The Epson LS12000 is a killer projector overall as well. If you plan to do gaming on your projector, the Epson is an easy recommendation. For a light controlled room focused on movies, NP5 is my recommendation

    Isn't running two different sub brands bad because of phasing issues?

  • @TorinTPG

    @TorinTPG

    4 ай бұрын

    Potentially, yes. But with a miniDSP, you can align the subs to work in harmony with each other. Always best to match everything, but home theater is about the journey and making the best of what we have at the time. You'd be hard-pressed to know that my subs aren't all the same brand and model with how I have them blended in the room

  • @mitchy5994

    @@TorinTPG I understand. I didn't think about a miniDSP. This is just hypothetical question, but would different woofers even if they reach the ears of the listener at the same time still potentially cause phasing issues? Could be due to different size woofers, the speed at which they move, if the woofer is harder or softer than the other, etc? I would love to know the answer to that one because I'm thinking about upgrading my subwoofer, but I was thinking there was no way to implement my old one into the new system.
