    Thanks for the answer. However, I managed to replace the spoke without taking the tyre off. I taped the nipple to the rim when removing the old spoke and inserted the new spoke into the hub. Then I held the nipple with pliers and screwed it carefully onto the new spoke, which I held in a curve to reduce it's effective length. One has to be careful not to push the nipple into the rim. Then continue tightening the spoke nipple using a spoke key, that way pulling the spoke straight. Rest is truing the wheel as usual.

    To replace the spoke without taking the tape of you just have to use a vise grip to hold the broken spoke, un-screw it from the nipple, replace the broken spoke with a new one. If it is one of those spokes that thread at the hub then you have to take the tape off

  • @kristianvrum8979

    @kristianvrum8979

    Yes, assuming that it is a normal wheel (with the nipples at the rim) this is actually relatively easy to do. You will of course have to reuse the old nipple with the new spoke, but as long as the nipple isn't damaged/badly corroded, and the new spoke is same diameter (at the threads, at least) as the one you're replacing, this is usually not a problem.

  • @Markikuunn

    @Markikuunn

    Yup, that's why I mentioned the ones that thread directly to the hub. Point being that there is a way to do it, but he didn't gave us enough details about his wheel.

    I would always advice truing a bent wheel, while the wheel will be fine with a slight buckle, prevention is better than cure so truing it up and there are plenty of videos on this. Doddy did one if memory serves and that should mean less problems in the long run.

    With regards to the not loosing sealant question. I've rebuilt an entire wheel without removing the tape or nipples, which were still good and did not want to "waste" either. Depth between rim wal and the rim bed wasn't deep enough to let the nipple fall out into the cavity, which made it quite easy. All you need to do if changing out one spoke broken at the hub is to un-thread it from the nipple and then put a piece of tape around the nipple, lace in the new spoke and then start threading the nipple onto the spoke with your fingers while pulling down, then just tighten to proper torque from there.

    I have the same problem as the subscriber who is in between sizes. I went for the large size and after a year i sold it because in technical section i felt it to big. It was a specialized stumpjumper fsr 29" xl and now i have a YT jeffsy L size and it feels much better to me. Also depends on the trails you ride, for crosscountry and light all mountain doesn't matter to much but if you need to move around the bike a smaller size is much, much better. I'm 1.86 but long legs. I'm L if you consider my height but xl if you do the size check from inside legs lenght (91,5 cm), so just in between sizes and to me L is much better

    you can repair a broken spoke without breaking the tubeless seal. put the broken spoke at the top of the wheel(rotate it), then take out both ends,being careful to leave the nipple where it belongs. maneuvering in a new spoke through all the others might be very difficult, depending on where it is, but it should be possible. with the spoke in the right place, carefully thread on the nipple with your fingertips and tension.

    I live in Oklahoma (USA). I am wanting to try our local Enduro series next year, but the majority of the trails around here are fairly flat and pedally. Not overly so, but not east or west coast riding. Certainly not like what is in the UK. I'm wondering if a 150mm travel bike is too much bike to still ride around my local trails.

    Hi! I don't quite get it with today's bikes. I am in the market for a new enduro/ am bike and i don' understand the difference between them. For example Canyon has the spectral and the strive where the spectral is as slack as the strive and has as much suspension travel as the strive, and so the spectral is a trailbike and the strive is an enduro bike. So... what' the difference?

    I have recently returned to mountain biking after a few years off, I ride mainly on local trails/XC currently and have a 2005 Marin Wildcat trail hardtail. It is in excellent condition and for its age the frame design geometry brakes etc. don’t look that out-dated. I remember the design was radical back then. I have just replaced the complete drive train bearings, tubeless tyres etc. Would a new 2017 Whyte 901 for instance be a big step forward (£1k on offer at the moment) can’t really stretch to a FS bike would prefer a good spec hardtail over a low spec heavy FS bike. What do you think? Is it to time to replace it or stick with it for a bit longer? Maybe save up for a FS bike?

    #askgmbn I was watching the DH world champs and noticing the footage is more than a minute shorter than what the clock is saying yet it's live. How does this work?

    #Askgmbn I don't have any grease currently, but will white lithium grease for automotive use work on bolts and axles?

    I'd say a 140 travel bike is mid travel. Low would be xc level travel, trail geo

    Hi Boys, I have a Shimano 2x10 drivetrain. I want to change it to a Sram GX Eagle. I wanted to have it with a 36t chainring and I noticed I already have a 36t chainring. Is it a good idea to save some money by keeping that 36t chainring and putting a chain guide to prevent my chain falling, or would that mess everything up? #askgmbn
