I think the true question is, how much you trust your safety on a bottle

At first the experiment was to find how much the bottle can withstand. Later the purpose was to explode it no matter what.

PET bottles are actually tested for burst pressure regularly at beverage fillers, and 12 Bar is a Common value for a one Liter Bettle.
Average for PET bottles is 220 psi :) I know because we do burst tests on them

What about a costco kirkland plastic water bottle?
Tom Stanton has been greatly underestimating the pressure these bottles can handle. He has only been going up to 60 psi, this is the normal pressure for a carbonated soda in the bottle.

The reason it didn't blow on the first co2 tube is because of the expansion. 60bar down to 10 bar means the gas basically expanded to 6 times the volume. If you tried to put the 60bar into a container half the size of the co2 you would get about 120 bar.. hope that explains it
This guy rocks those glasses
I love exploding PET bottles, they are so loud. Dry ice and some water does a great job. Just toss it in the yard and watch it expand, then a minute or so later BOOM 😂

My favorite is propane and oxygen at work. Just snuff the cutting torch with your glove, hold it inside the bottle for a few seconds, then light it. Full face protection, ear muffs and heavy duty gloves are a must!!!

Coke bottles have such high tolerance to pressure it's crazy

Honestly the strength of bottle have been decreasing through the years. It changes maybe in 10-15 years or so

3x the recommended pressure for failure is almost always the safety threshold (for everything), unfortunately it's also one of the first things to be cut down for cost.
Instead of using co2 canisters, can you find a way to load the bottle with dry ice and have an internal syringe with water BEFORE you pressurized it? That would be a much higher concentration of "fuel" (energy) if you condense the gasses down into solid and liquid forms before loading them onto the "rocket"
You need to Caleb with the slowmo guys doing that experiment again
😂 in the name of science
One time we put x (redacted) and oven cleaner in a glass 40 oz bottle. The pressure built up steadily for about 10 minutes before it blew up and was one of the loudest things I've ever heard. Luckily we were smart enough to observe from a safe distance.
Now let's stick metal shavings on the bottle.
That's what growing pains feel like
You should get the ones we have in Argentina that you return to the store and coca cola reuses they are waaay thicker
The definition of the word plastic is its ability you have a plastic consistency. Those soda bottles are over engineered to handle the pressure as well as varying external atmospheric pressures. Fascinating
Do it again with thermal imaging! Please
Get the slowmo guys onto this
A coke bottle will hold liquid propane i used to be a forklift driver and the tanks have bleed valves one time i thought hey i could capture this cold liquid but when i capped it it just warmed to room temp and held it very impressive
Mans starting to look like a memeber from the band flock of seagulls.

Try a Gateorade Bottle, they’re stronger than other common pop bottles in the US
A friend of mine growing up had a part time job cleaning up in a grocery store meat room. And the butcher there would give us all the dry ice we could carry. We would pack it in a couple hand held coolers and put pieces in plastic bottles and add a little warm water. Screw the lid on tight and throw them at each other like hot potato. It was fun. BUT we did discover not all soda bottles react the same. We had a couple that expanded like a balloon until they got a wee little hole and instead of blowing up they would just whiz/leak. BUT the clear pepsi bottles were LOUD...so very loud. And a very satisfying cloud of fog to boot.
A plastic bottle like that is typically around 12 bars
This gives me an idea. Light gets slower depending on the medium its passing through. .. Just like our hand gets slower as try to swim or move our hands inside water. That proves that light has a mass. That's why it is affected by gravity and everything like gravitational lensing. Why would they think that light is mass less?
I’m willing to bet that’s louder than a gunshot. What you’ve basically done is scientifically emulated what happens when a dry ice bomb goes off. Dry ice is CO2 and those canisters were filled with it. You let one rip in the house which takes some massive balls. Those things are fricking loud.
So funny story. My mum made some Home brew ginger beer in plastic bottles. Must have been a really energetic brew cause those bottles ended up stretching nearly double length before they started popping.
Humerus science guy, I love it❤
lol thanks some bottles are harder look to the "maxi bubbles" waters
Love your glasses
Wrap it in carbon fiber and epoxy. 3 layers should do. Test after curing. This is based off of 3200 psi compressed air tanks for paintball. They take a strand of carbon fiber and wrap a thin steel or aluminum tank then either dip, or brush on an epoxy coating.

The detonation could be deadly. Yes, really.
Yesterday i broke my hand because i put some dry ice in a water bottle. And think THATS A LOT OF DAMAGE.
Does it implode at high external pressures too?
Can you test the filtering flask how much pressure can handle😮
Slow motion the battle exploding please 🙏 fam.
THE BOTTLE IS RATED FOR SAME PRESSURE AS SCHEDULE 20 STEEL PIPE. 😅
That will be nice in slow-motion
About 187-190psi. Wow. I thought the cap would give first.
Science is fun. Better when you create your own toys. 😊
People that have never done this don't realise how loud it is
In the 90's, me and some friends put dry ice and a bit of water in 2L bottles for the pop...😂
What did you use as a valve?
Dip that bottle into some flex-seal. That should add pressure capacity.
You can also make pressure in a bottle by putting som drain cleaner on alu foil i makes a very loud boom, just dont get it in your eye.🌚
Yup
Need a slow mo cam on tha5
Hey if you put tape around that bottle i think i can put more air in it
Well good to know engineers figured out how many bars of pressure a typical carbonated soda would be under exposed to heat etc but made it 3x more durable than that 😂❤
We need the Slow mo Guys up in this business
Could you make it in slow motion?
I think that's why some people use these bottles to inflate their tubeless tire on a bicycle.
I wonder how far that would fly as a rocket 🤔
make thicker soda bottle and use as an scuba diving bottle
Isn't Morgan Gold from gshawfarm ur brodder?
I have slight PTSD from air compressors thanks to my experiment shooting off cheap water bottles with a 50 gallon compressor. I poked a whole in the lid and shot them off of an inflation needle. When I reused a bottle, it exploded. I almost lost my left eye. Now I just have a misshapen iris and slight double vision on that side. Lol.
Yeah, tried this once with co2 ice..and then it didn't blow and there was this 'bomb' sitting in my garden. 😊 i put a wooden pallet on top and hit it with a nail through the wood and it actually broke the 1,5 cm wooden board! Frickn scary.
i wonder if instead of cannisters it's mentos and carbonated drinks.. how much till it breaks..
a little liquid plumber and some foil will blow that up with expansion real well.
Of course, that bottle made by air to look that any size n pattern..that y can take air tight..👍🏼
I made a lye aluminum bomb the other day i used a jaritos bottle a little bit under 2 liters and coverd it with a big 32 gallon plastic bin and that shit jumped about 8 inches with me holding it down with all my strength i was not expecting that much power because i was using 12 oz coke bottles and they were loud but not really powerful the jaritos damm near made me shit myself its honestly scary how much pressure they can handle
I don't know why English had to be this hard, but they say. I don't know why this didn't BLOW up. (They don't use the past tense of the verb)
A lot of combustion engines cannot get even more than 60psi of boost. Because combustion engine use the explosion of fuel and air.
You should take the temperature of bottle.
We made water bottle rockets with them 225 PSI boy did they fly
Put a flame beside it when it explodes
We used to do aluminum HCl in them, let the hydrogen blow it up next to a fire . BOOM
There's a guy that inflated his tires using these bottles and water I think not too long ago
Using the screw cap, WOW
You can do the same thing with aluminum foil and a toilet cleaner called the works and if you put duck tape on the bottle it makes a even louder boom fun times
I am mediately thought of chlorine and alcohol, mix, toss & boom!
At least he had earplugs 🎉
