ABOUT ME🙋🏻‍♀️
I'm Christianne, a solo traveller, vlogger and entrepeneur from Surrey, UK. I spend half my time exploring new places around the globe with my backpack, and the other half creating videos about my experiences, what I'm packing, solo travel advice, money budgeting tips and anything else in relation to my backpacking lifestyle.

FAQ's
How do you afford to travel? - I now earn a full time living through creating these KZread videos, affiliate links, selling digital products and my clothing line. I used to simply just work any temporary job I could find to save up to travel! I budget the money I earn meticulously to reach my savings goals using www.backpackingbananas.com/pr...
Is travelling solo safe? - I would argue the answer is almost always yes! As long as you use your common sense and you follow your own government's guidelines about travelling in that country. I have made several videos on backpacking safety on my channel.
Do you have plans to settle down? Yes, I'm currently saving to purchase my first property in the UK and I'd love to have children one day. I doubt I'll ever live a completely 'conventional' lifestyle by society's standards though, as I often have my own preferred way of doing things.

You've already mentioned several times in your other videos that it was off season. I guess its worth mentioning that once again especially when talking prices. Planes, airbnb and pretty much everythingelse in south of Turkey doubles even triples peak season.

I’ve been following your contents on KZread and Instagram for more than a year, I’d say you’re one of my motivations to travel and plan things that I thought was impossible. I’m going to London in a month for a one-year volunteering program, I’m from Taiwan so it’s really exciting for me to travel around Europe haha 😆 and planning to do working holidays in Australia probably next year, just want to say thank you again for sharing your life, it made me feel brave to pursue what I want 💕

I find money an interesting topic in general, but it would also be very interesting to know how much you make as a travel content creator and what kind of revenue streams you have, and how you make money while traveling. I understand that not everyone is comfortable talking about personal finance topics but if you are, this would be an interesting video topic! :)

This honestly was fantastic to understand how you budget when backpacking. You are fabulous at explaining and it's something I definitely need to do more of when looking at travel for the future. I'm heading to New York in March, not a backpacking trip but if you have been there or got any recommendations of things to do, I would love to hear them. I'm not taking my guide dog with me, I'm just going to have my trusty white stick to navigate. Not the same as a marvellous Guide Dog but I will still be able to hopefully get about without too many issues. Thanks again for putting this video together, I loved learning a little more. Xox

Note to any travelers: Because there have been a rise in energy prices and minimum wage in Turkey as we entered 2022, the prices of everything (food, travel, accomodation, etc) in Turkish Liras have been quickly going up in January and it will probably keep going up for a while. In mid or long term, that rise in prices might be balanced by exchange rates of your currency as the value of Turkish Lira might go down as it did last year but for now, the exchange rates stayed somewhat stable in January, so you might consider a little higher prices for the same expenditures for a while.

Some insight to put some light on the numbers to compare her experience to how it's to live like a Turkish citizen for anyone interested. Before, I have to say, this is definetely not a critique to her spending. She was in Turkey to enjoy herself and get the best travelling experience so she has every right to do whatever she wants and have every luxury as she please with her own money. On the contrary, I celebrate her choices as she seemed to have great time and I hope she comes back soon to enjoy more. This is just a little financial comparison of being a traveler in Turkey and a Turkish citizen. In 35 days, she spent almost 5 times of just recently increased monthly minimum wage in Turkey, which is 4250TL. It was around 2800TL until the end of 2021. So, considering most of her trip was in 2021, she've actually spent almost 7,5 times of monthly minimum wage. You should know almost half of the monthly paid people in Turkey work for minimum wage or a little more. If we continue comparing with 2021 minimum wage, She spent almost 2,5 times of 2021 minimum wage only for food and drinks. She spent 2,5 times of minimum wage for accomodation. Of course, I know staying at hotels and airbnbs are always much more expensive daily than renting an apartment for long term and eating at restaurants costs more than home cooking, especially in touristic areas. But, still Turkish people needs to pay rent, utilities, communication, food, clothing, cleaning products, toiletries, at least local travelling, basic social and cultural activities, health expenditure if needed, any electronic needs, child-care and some education expenses if they have children, etc... with only a fraction of that money.
