Tips for anyone on a budget in college etc - make your own coffee if you drink it - bring a water bottle so you can fill it up for free instead of buying drinks - eat breakfast at home or if you can’t take it with you things like porridge (oatmeal), toast and cereal is usually the cheapest - take lunch with you things like pasta, rice with other things so it’s actually good is cheaper cuz you can buy them in bulk - buy the “wonky vegetables” they’re the ones that’s cheaper cuz they don’t look as good - for transport if you’re close either walk or cycle there or you can usually get a railcard which makes it cheaper for trains - if you’re gonna eat out look for meal deals (not sure if it’s just the uk that has it most places) it’s better than paying like £10+ for a meal

unfortunately walking/biking AND public transportation are not an option in MOST places in the U.S. or anything remotely safe/reliable. Its uber, drive, or get a ride. which is already so much more expensive. he only could use the subway cause he is in nyc. but its not cheap at all. prices are wildly higher in ny than other states. most of this stuff is feasible. also moat geocery stores here dont sell ugly produce. they pull it off the floor or cut it up into pre cut stuff that is upcharged. sometimes they use it to cook if they have an in house food area they cook in. You can get dicounts on packaged produce thats getting old though! usually like 40% off. its a whole mess. and thats also if you are lucky to live near a grocery store. if not. u will need to instacart or uber or have a car to get there and back. and even the cheap garbage food is insanely priced these days. let alone the fresh stuff. 1 green bell pepper (the cheapest paprika) is over a dollar. its awful. :(

I spend about $20 per day on food and transportation. $40-50 if I eat out for lunch. His $76 includes a $25 Instacart delivery and $35 worth of other groceries that will be used for several days (if not weeks, I peeped lots of onions). Honestly, I'm impressed he lives so inexpensively in NY. In reality, he actually "spent" around $20 if you subtract the groceries and estimate the cost of the sandwich ingredients and ice cream. He didn't eat $60 worth of groceries in a single day. None of you whiners in the comments have balanced a budget and it shows. 😂

Lol seeing that you just passed by west side market I’m gonna assume you go to Columbia. I work at the Pressed on 111th and Broadway so we used to be partnered with you guys. Well either way if you ever wanna stop by for a free juice come by soon!!! I’ll be quitting in a few weeks since I just took my NCLEX haha!! Good to see another person pursuing nursing. Best of luck ❤️

Forever glad for my coffee machines. I used to spend 10-15 a day just on coffee. Now I spend 40 every 6 weeks on capsules and 15 every month on coffee beans. So much cheaper and they have lasted me years.
