That’s amazing!! Hotels add up so fast! And yes, finding campsites on the east coast is always such a pain. So many little gems exist but there is no real way of knowing about them because websites are so outdated or just blank. My goal for this year is to experience more private campgrounds. More primitive and less CAMPERS!

I never pay for campsites because if there isn't free public lands nearby I just ride off trail into a woody area and hide my bike and one man tent behind shrubs. Some people just put a camouflage tarp over the bike and sleep under it. If the campgrounds are full, they will usually let you pay a couple dollars for a shower. I've learned a lot of tricks traveling on a shoestring budget the last 4 years.

WAY TO GO! And I just wanna say that the reason we travel around is to see, do and experience and I am so glad you did that! I saw the videos that you have out and they are really good!!! It shows you can have a good time on not a lot of money and that is why we ride!!

Me too for Yellowstone, one night at the Old Faithfull lodge $400 and the next night, just a bit up the road, at Mammoth Hot Springs $300. I never had reservations on my trip and considered myself 'lucky' to pull up to these places, late in the afternoon , cold, and get a room. I didn't plan for these stops, it's just how it worked out. Yes, those two nights definitely hit the credit card hard, but at some level I didn't care as I prefer to enjoy the experience and not skimp out so much when those experiences come around. Fortunately, I could somewhat afford those luxuries at the time! Thanks for the video!

Omg imagine having a few girlfriends to do this with because then you could do hotels/airbnb all the time (assuming people want that) and split the cost of them and it would make it super cheap. Plus is anyone breaks down, etc...pillion seats to spare! :D

WOW that's fantastic! When we were on a long 67 day trip we turned to friends and family also. Only 10 days in hotels the rest were a combo of camping and couch surfing. Save a ton and never spend 1/4 of our budget. This was a 17,848 mile trip. We never new about the app you use, now we will give it a try. Thanks

Most expensive hotel was in Yellowstone, when I followed my buddy across the country on motorcycle. I quickly whipped out my credit card for the $250 night stay so that we didn't have to sleep outside with the freezing low temps. With that and the recent bear visits I knew it was money well spent!

Sounds like an awesome trip, thanks for sharing! I hope that videos like these inspire people to jump on their bikes and go. It's so easy to come up with excuses to not do something like this. But once you do it you realize it wasn't hard at all to execute. If you put in the work of planning and preparing yourself and your bike, even money is not an issue. Things will fall into place and the road will provide for you when you need it. This past August I did 5k miles in 22 days and spent roughly the same amount of money. All of my money was spent on gasoline and food. Lots and lots of food! Nothing better than rolling into town for a hot meal (or 3) after rummaging around in the brush for a few days. I managed to sleep in my tent for 19 of the 22 nights for free. But I was mostly in the west and SW and that's easier to do here than most other places. The few nights that I got a cheap motel room I was quickly reminded of how much I like being in my nice, clean tent off in the silence of the night 😊 Having to head back home after a trip like that is always the worst part. So now I'm planning to live on my 2011 KLR indefinitely. Ride on!

I had a 2014 Honda CB500X. I commuted on it and racked up 75,500 miles before I sold it. I had to replace a water pump at 19.000 miles. That's it. What a great bike! Great channel BTW! About to watch your trip!

Marriott Marquis on Times Square. Fortunately, my school was paying the bill. On the road, whether bike or motorcycle, I'm budget conscious on motels v. camping; however, I do tend to eat far more often in restaurants - it's the one luxury I give myself consistently. In particular, I like the aspect of eating in small, local diners and coffee shops, as it's often an opportunity to chat with locals and really gives you a sense of place.

THX. Interesting on the choice of bike. But in all honesty, Honda's are known for reliability. Love the budget breakdown. Keep living the dream. This video serves to further motivate me into taking on such an adventure. PS. Love Deadwood, and totally understand wanting to eat there. It is such a cool town.

When you were talking about the app for expenses I thought I saw the name Woonsocket, so I slowed down the video and sure enough you stopped and got gas in Woonsocket, S.D. I grew up in Letcher, S.D. it was 8 miles south and 5 miles east of there. I guess if you went through Woonsocket you also passed through a community call Wessington Springs which is in a small range of hills the we called the Pony Hills. They were a little over 30 miles from Letcher and most days we could see the Pony Hills from Letcher, on clear winter nights we could see the lights of Wessington Springs. Thank You again Amanda for sharing your life, which helps me remember my youth. God Bless you.

Hey Jack! Please Note that this Breakdown is from a trip in August of 2020. Prices have changed a bit since this trip. I just came back from a 34 day trip in March across the South and back and well it was more like $5,500 with an average spend of $130 a day, about half camping and half hotels.

All the extra nights that I spent in the Residence Inn in Billings MT because I got sick traveling with improper rain gear in SD, WY, and SE MT. It was a week of nastiness that I'll always remember. Take care and stay safe Amanda.

Awesome Amanda, love the detailed description. We are hoping to do a 6 week trip over your way hopefully 2023 covid depending so these vids really help me out! Most expensive hotel room we have stayed in was around £200gbp Somewhere on the west of Scotland during a week long bike trip we were doing around north coast it had rained on us for 3 days straight and all our camping gear was soaked so we said screw it and got a new hotel and had all our camping gear spread out on the floor drying haha!.

It's probably a good idea to budget your trip. I may have way back then when I first started. Not so much anymore. I remember my first trip like it was yesterday. I remember not having anything like I have today. As time went on I had to teach myself. There was no internet. Even some days out I may not even see another bike. But I met some of the most amazing people on my adventures. I wish now I could have logged or keep a journal on everyone and every event I went to. I remember trying once but the rain had a different idea. LoL. I have always keep my gear packed, stocked and ready to go. Anything broken or something better is ready to go. One never knows when that feeling of getting away for a while might wake you up in the middle of the night. ;) Anyway Happy for you. And it excites me to see more and more folks like yourself experience that feeling that I have felt for so many years. Good luck on all of your journeys in life. Be safe and enjoy every mile. As a military veteran I've been to Germany, numerous different states and South Korea, as well as had several stop overs in countries flying to South Korea and Germany. The most expensive hotel I've ever stayed at was a middle ages castle in Germany and the room was over $200.00 a night. Here in the states the most expensive hotel I ever stayed at was the LA Hilton and that was nearly $200.00 a night in 1981.

Good info! Go Honda! As for hotels...I don't remember the price of the most expensive hotels, but I am sure they were in the Middle East somewhere (Dubai, Kuwait, etc.). I do remember the cheapest though, which was in Thailand for less than $3.00. And it was awesome! Beautiful quaint room, friendly staff, amazing views...you just can't go wrong in SE Asia.

I had to scroll down KZread's search results *a lot* and found this. This is a good primer for what I have planned in the future. My thing, I'll find a place to camp. I spent a lot of my youth camping and cooking with a camp stove or over fire. It is amazing how inexpensive your trip was. That's pretty dang awesome! Having watched this , I'm a new subscriber. I can't wait to watch the rest of your content.

Great breakdown of costs. I wish I'd come upon your channel before your trip. I would have recommended staying at some of the motorcycle-only campgrounds along the Blue Ridge Mountains. Fairly cheap and a great place to stay among likeminded riders. From north to south you have Willville in Meadows of Dan, VA. Then High Country near Ferguson, NC, then Rider's Roost, then Blue Ridge Cycle Campground near Cruso, NC, then Crossroads of Time or IronHorse of 129 in NC.

Thank you, that was quite a lot of information, I am hoping to go across the country on my bike next year to visit my daughter in Washington (from Ga) and do some sightseeing. There is sooo much to see in this country that I haven't ever seen. Stay safe out there.

Wow, that is an incredible low amount. We don't camp much, and by much we mean never, LOL. Being a nerd, I keep meticulous records on every trip...Our last crosscountry trip, I budgeted $150 per day and ended up spending about $123. Having friends around the country really helped, as did a pass for every national park, but I couldn't imagine making a long trip for less than you did! Great video. Most expensive place we've ever stayed? Ragged Point, on the Big Sur coast. I forked over $425 for that place. It was stinkin' amazing...but here is the best part: because the place did not fill up (not even close) the manager comped us a second night!

Most expensive hotel I’ve stayed in was the Venetian in Las Vegas. Beautiful resort. Could’ve stayed there for way longer. But we had to finish our trip around the Grand Canyon.

$260 Gardiner MT. Hotel we had booked moved our reservation to their “other” location. We had just spent 4 hours in the dark trying to get out of Yellowstone. The other location was a 40 minute ride up the mountain, at 10pm in the pitch dark. NO. I found a place that had one room left in town. It was like a honeymoon suite, weird. And nothing in town was open for food.

Well, that's me caught up, Amanda. Kinda sad. May just have to check out some of your list of recommended vloggers now.... Don't worry, I'll be back - plan to be a regular. Really enjoy your content. Beautifully done with that vein of honesty running throughout. I will definitely visit the PNW at some point - mountains and low humidity for me, thanks! Can't think of any particularly expensive hotels or meals in my back-catalogue right now - but, point is, I always watch to the end 😉

this was so cool to see! i mean idk if i'd ever ride my bike around the usa but it was nice to see the possible cost break down lol. most expensive hotel for me willingly, Grand Wailea in Maui @ $400 a night it was worth every penny lol. As for most expensive meal, I'm not sure I don't go out much to fancy restaurants....

San Francisco $800 a night. Was there for a work trip, and that was a cheap room. Loved following your trip, thank you for doing the series.

Marriott Chateau Champlain in Montreal is very centrally located and includes a garage and a Triumph dealer within walking distance. It is on the pricy side compared to other area hotels, but the location may be worth it. Many thanks for sharing your numbers, as that makes the idea of such a trip seem more feasible.

I am curious if Airbnb would be better, since you don't have to carry any camping gears. Agree that hotel is costly, but camping seems to be so much work (I had never camp in a motorcycle before).

@@mattingray5651 As with many things, I think your "comfort zone" comes into play. I very much enjoy the challenge of camping. And camping in comfort is the goal. With the proper gear and some practice camping can be very comfortable and very rewarding. For me any cost benefits are secondary.

I am in Australia, and am going on a week long trip next week. I decided to stay at either community show grounds or private camp grounds for the entire trip. The show grounds cost me $20 per night, and have hot showers and flushing toilets. The private camp ground was $28/night and have a laundry, camp kitchen, and swimming pool. Hotels have not been budgeted for but I can afford one if absolutely required.

I paid over $200 one Christmas evening for dinner. It was in Anchorage, Alaska at one of the only restaurants open that night. My neighbor was deployed to Afghanistan while his wife, daughter, my wife, and I were still at home (I was in a different unit that did not go on that deployment). Sadly, even though several people were working that Christmas night, the food wasn't anything to write home about, marginally better than a national fast food chain with a clown. Ride your ride!

I’m really impressed at what you did the trip for. Your fuel costs seem amazing for the miles you did, and as you said a lot on the interstate. Most expensive motel, I had no choice $700USD for two nights in the Florida Keys.

Well done Amanda. So nice to hear that so many viewers stepped up for specific items you hoped to carry with you. Also, definitely a break on gasoline prices. I made a couple trips in 2020 and some prices were as low as 1.70/gallon (Texas in December). Glad to see you are clearly feeling better than the prior video, too. Most expensive night of lodging (and I'll be specific to a motorcycle trip)... $125 for a night in a little lake cabin in New Brunswick. It had poured and poured all day on Prince Edward Island, I was soaked, windblown and worn out. I would have paid it just to have a roof, but when the person said, "there's a washer and drier you if you'd like to use them.." I slapped the Visa card on the counter....

It would have taken me another year to be able to save up all that money and you guys made it happen in 6 months lol The Lake Cabin sounds like it was gorgeous! also so many plusses for having a washer and drier oh my gosh. lol I don't think hotels understand how beautiful the words "there's laundry" is to a biker lol

@@AstheMagpieFlies now in my 70th year, I've come to grasp an essential truth: What you give is what you get. You give informative, interesting, upbeat and always "cheery" content and for that, your viewers/subbers were/are generous.

Great breakdown Amanda! My travel costs were very similar when I did my trip to DC and back 7 years ago!. My most expensive meal though... $500 per head at French Laundry in Yountville CA. I'll never spend that kind of money on a meal again.

Nice breakdown. I did a 7000 mile trip in 19 days and spent about the same. I went way over budget on hotels and food. Ended up not camping any. Gas prices were higher in September 2019 and my Roadmaster only gets about 40 miles to the gallon. I spent 3 nights with family and friends. I brought camping gear, but learned that I could split my Hilton points I get mostly through business travel with cash and so spread my points out of the whole trip. Found out that even awards stays count toward "status" so that helped me stay at diamond level for at least another year since I don't travel as much for work. Endscreen questions. Most expensive hotel overall was the Crown Plaza in NYC at Times Square. Was up there a few times for work in the 2000's. The price went up and down, but I think the highest was $500 per night. For personal travel, I think I've paid just north of $200 per night for resort style vacations. Most expensive dinner on my cross country trip was in Kansas City at the Hereford House. I had been their years before on business. Absolutely the best steak I've ever eaten, and I wasn't disappointed in 2019 either. I was over a benjamin including tip.

One of the most expensive in my memory was the Orchard Hill Country Inn in Julian. I don't know how much it was, just that it was substantially more than the others we stayed in on our first honeymoon. Totally worth it - Julian, CA was a delightful town with the BEST apple pie and cinnamon ice cream and a great way to celebrate the northward turn we'd taken after traveling all the way south on the coast!

That was a surprisingly simple overview. Maggianos italian food for me and the wife was about $80 with tip. Totally worth it though great spaghetti and ravioli.

My trip from Central Ohio to Appalachia was about that much ! LOL But I'm a sucker for Casino's. I stayed in 3 Casinos even though the rooms were comped I still got carried away gambling. My next trip will not include gambling.Instead I think the $$ will go towards Camping and gifts. I do love doing my trips alone though, something about the solitude on the highways off the beaten path is soothing for me. Enjoy your channel young lady.

Great info. I am planning a round the country tour after I retire. Still a few years down the road. I figure 2 to 3 months. As much in the cheap as I can. It gives me a long enough time to work out all the kinks. Getting lots of great info from a lot of different Motovlogers. End screen. SanFrancisco. Don’t remember the hotel, but it was $350 a night on a 50% discount. The room was so big it had a hallway in it! Most expensive dinner was at The Empress Lilly restaurant at Disney world. (Enough said). Oh and Jackets required. $150 for 2 40 years ago.

Thanks! I can’t spell it, but I stayed at the stauffer in Seattle in 1993 for 240 a night, 3 nights. And once my family and a couple of +1s went to the inn at little Washington in Virginia and the bill for 9 of us was 3,200 for dinner for 9 (mom paid, though, not me :-)) What you might think is interesting is that when I hiked the Appalachian trail in 2009 I spent 5.5 months from maine to Georgia spending 2,300 on gear and an additional 3500 hiking. I think I only paid for lodging about 10 nights and 5 were hostels for only about 10/night and a few very rural 40 dollar motels. I ate mostly Roman and snickers and when it got cold, lots of summer sausages. Thanks for the vid! I’m looking at a z400 and am looking forward to a long ride.

My wife used to work for Hyatt and got several free nights a year at various hotels. I think the most "expensive" night was at the Park Hyatt Beaver Creek in Avon. It's a ritzy ski hotel in the mountains and I think a room that weekend would have been in the 800 dollar range!

That's awesome!

The most incredible steak dinner that I have ever had! $106!! That included tax. I used part of my tax refund one year to treat myself and a friend to an awesome meal. I would do it again in an instant! Thanks for sharing your adventures on the road, Amanda. I enjoyed every minute! Ride safe and be well!

I retired the beginning of 2020. With so many things closed I elected to do a staycation and go on 300 mile rides from home and camping! I decided that I did not want to by ticked every time I couldn't see something cool! Maybe in a couple of years I would! Maybe 2022!

That's not quite as expensive as I would've expected for such a long trip. I'd really like to take some long trips this summer, once things have calmed down a bit and everything that's going to reopen has reopened. I really hope that the campgrounds get less crowded, but I think I'm going to have to learn how to do dispersed camping this year if I really want to avoid other people. My primary issue with that is going to be buying either a camp shovel or bringing along some WAG bags. The most expensive hotel I stayed in was after a romantic Thanksgiving trip to a "boutique" bed and breakfast on their soft opening ended poorly (they didn't have any running water) and I decided to salvage the trip by taking my wife to Prescott instead. We spent $180 for one night. The most expensive motorcycle lodging was in Ouray, CO, at $140-ish/night. We didn't even end up using the hot springs, because we stayed there during the pandemic, but it was a planned stop. The unplanned lodging in Montrose the night before was $130/night. It was so hot at the bottom of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison that we knew we weren't going to be able to sleep, there were no inexpensive hotels with vacancies, and at that point we didn't want to ride around at the top of the canyon looking for an alternate campsite.

Right? Once the number is actually put on paper it's a lot easier to wrap my head around. (Especially when comparing it with some motorcycle tours that are like $3k+ for only one week lol ) Ouch and double ouch! Glad you guys were still able to find somewhere to get out of the heat even if it was expensive!

Wow! I saw one of your expense entries was for a hotel in Staunton, VA. I'm watching this video from a hotel in Staunton, VA! Most expensive meal? I don't know if it was the most expensive, but the best dinner I ever had was at the Cliff House in San Francisco.
