Thank you for the information. This fall is my first batch of broilers. I wasn't prepared because my neighbor gave them to me because her son brought them home from school.

So in the summer when do you feed to avoid the chickens there metabolic peak being in the heat of the day? I have a covered area - pasture area with trees on 3 sides would that help with the over heating. Any impact on their growth?

John, Do you soak your feed? I have seen documents that you get better consumption and less loss. Have you used spent grain from your brewery to feed either your chickens or other livestock?

I think week old chicks need to tone their muscles by a weekly adjusted longer distance between water and store bought free choice feed 24/7.

What % protein do you feed your broilers? Do you feed the same feed start to finish? We have been feeding 24% start to finish but we are getting alot with ascites and heart attacks this year. Thank you.

John, i full feed also. For the same reasons. Less wing damage from fighting. Better growth rate. More pounds in less days. Although i do ajust protein on how fast they are growing. If i see Flip i process right away. (I do my own wich helps. I know. )

Very HELPFUL 👍 WHAT IN YOUR EXPERIENCE WOULD YOU SAY IF I HAVE ONE INCH BY 1 INCH CHICKEN WIRE AND MOST PLACES ON MY "INDOOR" Chicken run, and henhouse, over a concrete slab where the concept is a cage of one by one chicken wire completely surrounding the chickens and doubled up to make it only half inch by half inch..... As well as going over the top and also besides being fenced in on the top having a wooden roof framed over the top with asphalt shingles for waterproof.... I know what you're thinking it sounds like fort Knox for chickens, BUT I STILL HAVE A FEELING THERE ARE OTHER THINGS ENTERING AT NIGHT, MUCH SMALLER, BUT NOT RATS BC NO RIVER OR OTHER WATERSCOURCE NEARBY and in a very residential suburb areas at least 3/4 a mile from closest river with rats known to be in them, and those rats are known to Target chicken coops for food and bite, Also I don't have any restaurants or bars within three quarters of a mile.... So what am I missing here? Why are my chickens suddenly staying on alert guarding the sliding door (that I keep open for now since they are completely enclosed anyway until it gets too cold) What is it making them uncomfortable? And what could it be possibly cracking their eggs open but only one egg, not the cluch

Totally unscientific bro, let them overeat is not the best possible way ! I don't agree on 24*7 availability of food. We can use a little bigger feeder to reduce struggle for feed when feeding them timely.
