@@persistence9755 Current OHT student. OHT program is a double degree of dental hygiene and dental therapy. Dental hygiene and dental therapy are single degrees which limit your scope of practice to that single degree. Where you study also defines your scope. For my university UON you have both a child and adult scope. Some universities only teach a child scope and you can only practice what you learn in university. CPD courses can only build on what you already learned in university.
Do you know how much Melbourne dentists just anecdotally? I’ll be working as a dentist here in 4 years and am curious how much they make compared to oral health therapists

According to Indeed.com the average salary for a Dentist is $121170 per year in Australia.

This can vary hugely though - depending on your skill set and what type of dentistry you perform. Whether you do mainly general dentistry or more cosmetic dentistry eg. veneers, crowns, smile makeovers.

If you work metro as an associate no matter which state it's always going to be trash, go a lil further out and I've seen/heard of ppl making 300k doing bread and butter dentistry on a 4-5 day work week and this was a grad 1-2 years out. Dental specialists are another story, Ortho positions start at roughly 250k as an associate but I've seen rural positions advertised for 1 day/week paying 130k, yes that's 1 day per week (it'd be a shit load of work on that day though). Oral Health Therapists do not have this potential unless they own an office which Im not sure about in Aus - it's not really suprising there are so many OHTs in my dental cohort.

yes but you need to sit exams with the Australian Dental Council first

No unfortunately not, you must do examinations and get an Australian dental qualification

You definitely can! Most often than not you need to complete certain biomedical science subjects first and then apply to dentistry

OHT are so underpaid. You wont make over 6 figures. ATAR is 86 aswell not 80.
