Wizards and Warriors animated fantasy documentary lore video series on the world of Middle-Earth - Lord of the Rings continues with the second video on the First Age. Previously we discussed the creation of the world of Tolkien, its powers and races and we see how and why the Elves became the enemies of the Dark Lord Melkor, who they called Morgoth, after their leader Fëanor cursed him for killing his father Finwë and stealing his prized possession - Silmarils. In this episode we see how the evil first rose in the world of Arda and will talk about Ungoliant and other evils, about the Valar and Maiar, about the Elves and their sub-groups - Vanyar, Ñoldor, Teleri, and Avari ( • Beginning of the Age -... ), while this video will show the continuation of the events. In Middle-Earth, Morgoth attacks the Teleri Elves in Doriath under Thingol and his allies Cirdan and Denethor starting the War of the Jewels with the First Battle of the Beleriand. Meanwhile, in the Valinor, the Noldor Elves of Feanor attack their Teleri relatives in the First Kinslaying in order to take their ships. Afterwards, Feanor and his sons travel to the Middle-Earth in order to fight Morgoth and take the Silmarils, leading to the battles of Dagor-nuin-Giliath and Lammoth and the death of Feanor ( • Feanor Strikes Back - ... ). The third episode episode showed the aftermath of the death of Feanor, as the Noldor kingdoms rise in the Middle-Earth taking on Morgoth once again, this time at the battle of Dagor Aglareb, where Feanor's sons Fingolfin and Maedhros, and others fought against the Dark Lord and we also talked about the rise of the humans - the House of Edain ( • Dagor Aglareb - Noldor... ). The fourth episode will describe the battle of Dagor Bragollach and the rise of the father of Dragons Glaurung ( • Dagor Bragollach - Ris... ). In the aftermath of the defeat at the hands of Morgoth, the Elves and Men were on the back foot and the evil spread in the Middle-Earth, but from those dark days, an unlikely pair rose to challenge the darkness - Beren and Lúthien ( • Beren and Lúthien - Gr... ), and defeated Morgoth.

@@Achillesnic Admittedly, it is a difficult read. I have found the audiobook to be the ideal format to take in the lore. IMO it felt as though it was always best suited as an oral narrative. Needless to say, after struggling with the written word, I found the audiobook a revelation. That said, the start is still a bit rough, as the imagery can be somewhat abstract. *EDIT:* And as @emerestthisk990 noted, this and other stories stuck with me. So much so, my imagination allowed for me to fill in what was missing in this telling quite easily. *Huan* actually speaking his final words,¹ for one thing. ··•●✺●•·· ¹ ─ And, as the *Silmarillion* notes, they be not _"Woof! Then Morgoth looking upon her beauty conceived in his thought an evil lust, and a design more dark than any that had yet come into his heart since he fled from Valinor. Thus he was beguiled by his own malice, for he watched her, leaving her free for a while, and taking secret pleasure in his thought.

The Lay of Leithian: Canto XIII:4014: [Morgoth:] "And here of need thou shalt remain now, Luthien, in joy or pain - or pain, the fitting doom for all, for rebel, thief, and upstart thrall. Why should ye not in our fate share of woe and travail? Or should I spare to slender limb and body frail breaking torment? Of what avail here dost thou deem thy babbling song and foolish laughter? Minstrels strong are at my call. Yet I will give a respite brief, a while to live, a little while, though purchased dear, to Luthien the fair and clear, a pretty toy for idle hour. In slothful gardens many a flower like thee the amorous gods are used honey-sweet to kiss, and cast then bruised, their fragrance loosing, under feet. But here we seldom find such sweet amid our labours long and hard, from godlike idleness debarred. And who would not taste the honey-sweet lying to lips, or crush with feet the soft cool tissue of pale flowers, easing like gods the dragging hours? A! curse the Gods! O hunger dire, O blinding thirst's unending fire! One moment shall ye cease, and slake your sting with morsel I here take!" In his eyes the fire to flame was fanned, and forth he stretched his brazen hand. Luthien as shadow shrank aside. 'Not thus, 0 king! Not thus! ' she cried.../// Tolkien returned to this song after the Lord of the Rings, but unfortunately he abandoned it again. For the Tolkien whom we know from The Silmarillion and The Lord of the Rings, such open erotic (although this is hardly applicable to Melkor) hints greatly surprise the reader.

Cause "we need strong and independent women that need no man and are better than men at doing anything and everything cause that's what makes a woman strong" or you know, perhaps all it does is make them more masculine and take away the strength of character they displayed already. But what could activists and snowflakes that change their genders with the coming of the rising sun and get paid to pander to certain groups, understand about strong men and women and how this can be properly illustrated and good writing skills (such as in the source material that they hate)?

Ever since I first read the silmarillion when I was a kid, I wanted it to have some imagery just to help a little with understanding the text. Having this channel explain in detail the first age and the battles and all of the more complex ideas (that I will admit, still alluded me a bit even after almost 3 decades in this realm) is really amazing and I appreciate it. The only way we’re getting a truly faithful production is to have it be fan-made and fan-produced. Marketing/accounting/executives/corporate “creatives” would just dumb it down and modernize it too much to try and appeal to the masses they think are as basic as they are. I believe there are enough creative Tolkien fans with integrity that it will be done someday.

while listening to the audio book my favorite quote from beren and luthien was this "He raised his eyes, his mourning stilled , and felt his heart new-turned to flame for her that through peril to him came" but my favorite quote about them was from The Silmarillion. “The song of Lúthien before Mandos was the song most fair that ever in words was woven, and the song most sorrowful that ever the world shall hear. Unchanged, imperishable, it is sung still in Valinor beyond the hearing of the world, and listening the Valar are grieved. For Lúthien wove two themes of words, of the sorrow of the Eldar and the grief of Men, of the Two Kindreds that were made by Ilúvatar to dwell in Arda, the Kingdom of Earth amid the innumerable stars. And as she knelt before him her tears fell upon his feet like rain upon stones; and Mandos was moved to pity, who never before was so moved, nor has been since.”

Your absolutely correct People like to say Sauron actually lost to huan when it’s in fact clear he was cheek shooted And Sauron is confirmed to be so much stronger than any belrog dragon or Evil creature of morgoth Tolkien wouldn’t make his main villain lose to a huan on fair terms Sauron has only on record lost 2 physical fights One was here with huan but again he was cheek shot and it wasn’t even a fight this is the equivalent of not being able To win a fight and used a dirty tactic to win Keep in mind Sauron wasn’t at his strongest yet haven’t even made the one ring making him stronger than morgoth in the first age And the second fight Sauron lost was when he was weakened by Eru himself during the downfall of Numinor where he was weak enough for the last alliance to even be formed Their whole purpose was to kill Sauron again after eru to insure he can’t recover because if he does they all lose and they know it In which Sauron took on the last alliance single handily the whole army by himself for a time and was wining And the 2 kings who had weapons to harm him bother died to him If they didn’t have such weapons that can harm him they all would have lost to a weakened Sauron And the attempt to defeat him killed nearly everyone including the high kings So ya Sauron if he is at his strongest in a fair fight with anyone will win Anyone who says he isn’t a fighter or isnt powerful clearly haven’t payed attention to the context to why he lost

The song of Lúthien before Mandos was the song most fair that ever in words was woven, and the song most sorrowful that ever the world shall hear. And as she knelt before him her tears fell upon his feet like rain upon stones; and Mandos was moved to pity, who never before was so moved, nor has been since. Man, oh man. The Silmarillion is full of fragments like this: pure sadness, pure joy, pure epicity.... Tolkien´s work is beyond perfection, eternally grateful to him, he will never be forgotten (despite Amazon or any other bullshit efforts).

Fun fact when Feanors sons encounted Beren and Luthien they sent messages to Thingol that they had taken Luthien, so before Beren and Luthien returned. Thingol was preparing for war, and had sent out spies for information only to find out that Luthien escaped. I like this because Thingol doesn't get enough respect. Never forget the first battle of Beleriand was fought without the Noldor, Rest In Peace Denethor!

There was a way that Sauron could have won. Huan is prophesied to be killed by the greatest wolf that ever lived. All Sauron had to do was put him into sleep with a spell or simply incapacitate him. Similar to the Witch King. He was killed by a woman, not a man, but he still got beaten by Aragorn and forced to flee back in Weathertop. Why can't the bad guys take advantage of loopholes?
