How Fernando Tatis JR. Destroyed His Reputation…

Спорт

Fernando Tatis Jr was once MLB’s favorite player before he got involved in multiple controversies which made perception of the player go from most loved to one of the most hated. Even his own manager and teammates have had a few problems with how he handled some of this controversy. At the peak of his popularity Tatis signed one of the largest contract extensions in MLB history valued at over 300 million dollars, he became the cover athlete for MLB the Show 21 while hitting 40 plus homers at just 22 years old. He did all of this while being the FACE of baseball, having the second most jerseys sold in 2021 only trailing Mookie Betts, and even above Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge. #baseball #mlb #mlbb #sports

I'm a certified Tatis hater but getting mad at someone for hitting a grand slam in any situation is just dumb. This is the MLB. If you don't want a guy to swing on 3-0, throw a better pitch. He's not paid $300M+ to take strikes to avoid hurting someone's feelings. He's paid to mash home runs. If you don't want to get embarrassed, then play better.

I get that comment if you want to complain about the reaction of the Ranger's manager .....valid point, I still disagree......because his manager was mad at him....the Padres manager.....because he ignored a sign from his 3rd base coach. He ignored a take sign from his 3rd base coach. Ya swing away.....unless your 3rd base coach gives you a take, a bunt, or a hit and run sign. Unwritten rules aren't really a thing like people make them out to be.....if you want to sum up all the unwritten rules in baseball it comes down to this.....don't play like a jackass.

I was at that rangers game, it's different when you're watching highlights or simplifying it as "he's just hitting homeruns" while game the Padres showed no class they were on our ass and good for them they were the better team, but before Tatis went for the at bat there was a pitcher meeting I believe the manager for the Padres even walked up to Tatis and told him something. I'm assuming it was something like "were already up just take it easy etc" idk something among those lines, our reliever who wasn't good throws the pitch and boom guy hits a bomb, it's just something you don't do man you don't kick a man while he's down period. All-Star shortstop and LADDER Athlete Trea Turner eschews flashiness - but sometimes the dude just can't help it. Credited with possibly the smoothest slide of all time, any showy play by the five-tool superstar is purely residue, not design. “When I think about my feet, they don't move correctly. When you just tell me, 'Hey, run over there,' I can do it," he says, soft pedaling the feet in question, which are arguably the fastest in professional baseball. He's a living ideal of the head-down, gut-it-out ballplayer, characteristics that usually relegate an athlete to the dustbin of “scrappy role players" or “overachieving upstarts" - except those guys don't average No. 1 overall in fantasy baseball drafts. Turner is that uncommon intersection of maximum talent with maximum effort, the kind of player you can't help but root for. We caught him stealing some downtime on a recent road trip, during which he shared insights into his regimen, recounted some rare missteps, and drove home the importance of the little things. Train and fuel like the pros with LADDER's line of premium performance supplements. . How recognized are you when you go out in the world? Can you get a Starbucks without having to sign autographs? trea turner candid with glove I get recognized a little bit more now, but I'm pretty under the radar. Maybe I'll get a hello, or "good game last night," but for the most part, I go pretty unnoticed. . Among many things, you're known for stealing bases. How many factors have to align for a successful swipe? Depends who you are. For me, a million. But some people are simpler in their thought process. Base stealing is tough, because you risk so much: If you steal the base, it's what you're supposed to do, but if you you get picked off or you're thrown out, it looks dumb. So there's a lot of risk-reward there, but that's why I try to calculate as much as I can - score of the game, who's on the mound, scouting reports, who's catching, who's hitting. But at the end of the day you just have to be comfortable with making a decision. Sometimes some things tell me not to go. But when it looks good, I just want to be aggressive, stop thinking, and go for it. That's the art of base stealing. . That's the art - now for the science: You've mentioned in the past the importance of running efficiently. Can you talk about that? For me, the biggest thing in sports is health. Obviously, there's plenty of talent across the board, but it's hard to be good when you're not out there. I'm expected to run hundreds of sprints during a season, so in the offseason I go to a trainer by my house in Florida - somebody I've been going to since high school - and work on running a few times a week. A lot of that running is efficiency and running properly, and making sure to prevent injury and maintain or gain speed. . How do you train for batting average and power and speed, maintaining mass while remaining quick and agile? trea turner running In college I was pretty fast, but I wanted to be a good hitter, so I definitely was trying to gain weight. But in my early 20s I realized weight doesn't always correlate to strength. So I weigh 180 pounds, give or take, and I feel like that's the weight where I feel the best - I can run, but I can also drive the ball to parts of the field. It took me a while to realize that. My metabolism's so fast that it's hard for me to gain more weight than this anyway. I would have to drink so many protein shakes a day and eat so much food and just feel basically bloated. . What's your nutrition generally like? Mornings when I'm at home, I usually just have a coffee and some water and maybe Hydration. When I go to the stadium, I start to get more calories - I eat most of my meals at the field. It can be a large meal or a peanut butter sandwich. It could be bananas or protein shakes. Before the game I'll drink Hydration or Pre Workout. After the game I'll usually have another Hydration or protein shake to make sure I'm not missing meals because the day's so hectic. . Do you have any idea how many calories you consume in a day? I do not. I have no idea. I don't really keep track of that. I feel like I know when I need to eat more or get more hydrated. If I notice I haven't eaten all day, I'll force myself to eat something. . What are your favorite ways to train? I do a lot of lower-body stuff throughout the day that I incorporate into my warmups. Sometimes, early in the day I'll do some full-body or upper-body lifting, but 45 minutes before every game I do a lower-body lift real quick, and that usually consists of squats or deadlifts. I like deadlifting a lot. I like band work as well, putting bands around my ankles and knees and doing a lot of hip stuff. Being in the infield and stealing bases, I think that helps me out a lot. I do a little bit of everything to focus on the hips and feet. Feet are big in baseball. You wear cleats and you can easily start walking incorrectly, on the outside foot or whatever it may be, so I pay a lot of attention to that. I do some arch stuff and balance and things that help me there. . There's got to be a line to walk between getting as much out of these workouts as you can and not gassing yourself for that day's game. trea turner walking with ladder bottle and bat That's always the battle. People forget: baseball, you play every day, but you're supposed to lift and you're supposed to work out and it takes a lot of time. So you think you're going to be 100 percent energized for the game when you lift that day and that's just part of the game. Some guys do it better than others. I know guys that don't lift and feel good. I know guys that lift all the time and feel good. It's just whatever your body needs. I try to do something every day. It might not be anything crazy, but I try to do something every day. . What does your recovery and training look like now compared with when you first entered the game? I think it's diet in general. I love sweets, sodas - all that stuff - but definitely drink a lot less of them. I drink a lot more water and hydration drinks and protein shakes than I did in the past. . You've been doing this the majority of your life - if it weren't for professional baseball, what do you think you'd be doing now? That is a great question. I have no idea. I went to college for chemical engineering. I was really interested in chemistry when I was younger, and that didn't work out great; I didn't get the best grades, but that always interested me. Getting a little older and seeing how the world works, business interests me now. And being a college baseball coach would be pretty fun. I enjoyed my years in college, and those programs are special. . What do you think is your most valuable trait as an athlete? trea turner batting I think it's the mindset, just how I approach things. Guys play for all sorts of reasons, but I think just competing every day is fun, and I think that's my biggest asset: I can compete and move on. Some days, you're not going to be very good. But just picking it back up and getting back out there the next day and giving everything you've got all the time is one of my bigger assets. . Which LADDER products are your favorites? How do you incorporate them into your routine? My favorite is the Pre-Workout. I used to use it working out, but now during the season I like doing it maybe an hour before the game, just to get me going. And I've been talking about the Hydration - I think that's important. So I'll just mix that in throughout the day. (Burchette) u are a goffy ahh quan fortnite ahh headset dent guy

That’s how you break records that are meant to be broken and how your stats matter because other teams aren’t looking at what GRAND SLAM you hit against who and score of the game. he never played a game on “roids”. They’re constantly checked during the seasons and he was always clean. You can just tell by his frame too while during his younger season he was never on them, he was such a slim guy. If he did take them though it was during his rehab in the minors which sucks but isn’t like he played with them during season prior. And if he didn’t take them then he was just an idiot that didn’t check if the ringworm medication was allowed or not which i do believe since he isn’t he brightest. And yes he hasn’t been the same since his return but the dude missed a full season and also had shoulder surgery(the one cody bellinger got and was never really the same) and two wrist surgeries. So no shit he’s not going to be the same atleast right away. It’s definitely going to take a while to get back to that top tier level. Even at his worst right now he’s a 775ops player that has some pop and platinum glove defense. There’s no denying he’ll be back though eventually, just look at his metrics and underlying numbers.

To me this guy is a .300 hitter and potential 40-40 guy year in year out , and he’s just a tragic figure imo , he was young and fucked up riding motorcycles and hurt himself doing that in the offseason . Then Seidler and / or Preller get on his ass about needing to show more maturity and be a leader , he interprets that as a valid excuse for taking steroids to recover from injury and justifies it to himself because of the pressure from signing that massive deal , and all of a sudden he’s a pariah . I don’t care what anyone’s opinion of my opinion is , that’s how I view things at the moment and the truth is often stranger than fiction , so who really knows what happened , but this guy is the kind of freak athlete that you only really ever get one or two of his kind per sport , so I hope he can bounce back and eventually build a strong hall of fame case , because he certainly has the talent to be that sort of player

"Destroyed"? C'mon, my dude. That was 12 minutes of highlights and three minutes of Tatis tarnishing his reputation in a story that lost relevance a season ago. Did he make stupid decisions in quick succession? Absolutely. Did he *destroy* his reputation, as exemplified by fans *checks notes* chirping at him from the bleachers? Not even close. This is pure clickbait on an old story tied to nothing directly relevant, scandalous, or newsworthy when the video is posted (week of May 20th, 2024 for posterity). The team members who got mad at Tatis for that 3-0 grand slam? Jayce Tingler and Eric Hosmer. I'll side with Tatis any day over those jokers. The clubhouse angst about Tatis being a dumbass? That quote comes from Mike Clevinger, who, in addition to being the linchpin of one of the worst trades in franchise history, abuses his wife and kid. He can take his critique and go step on a LEGO. So, speaking of intimate partner abuse, let's talk about reputations worth highlighting - Tatis served an 80 game suspension for PEDs he took while playing literally ZERO major league games. Not one. A year prior Marcell Ozuna was suspended for intimate partner violence that included strangulation. Marcell served a retroactive 20 game suspension. And then got an honorary World Series ring. One year later, Ozuna was arrested for a DUI while going nearly triple the speed limit. He's on camera trying to use his status as a player on the Br*ves to manipulate the cops to let him go. Swell guy. Who is also an MVP candidate so far this season. Or we could look at Aroldis Chapman's intimate partner violence that includes repeatedly firing a weapon indoors during an altercation with his partner. He received his second World Series ring two months ago. Or, if we want to look back further, how about checking out how the San Francisco Giants somehow *avoided* getting a reputation as a hub for cheating and violence in 2012? Pablo Sandoval credibly accused of sexual assault until the victim was pressured by the star player to back down. Dude was allowed to keep playing and went on to win World Series MVP honors. All-Star and MVP candidate Melky Cabrera suspended for 50 games for PEDs. His performance in the All-Star game earned him MVP honors and awarded the Giants home field advantage for the World Series. Then there's Guillermo Mota's PED suspension and those of multiple players in the minor league system as well. But hey, let's go after Tatis whose PED violations impacted zero actual games. You've clearly got a passion and some decent editing skills - how about recalibrating those to less clickbait and more substance?

I was with you until you bashed the unwritten rules. It’s about respecting the game and your opponents. Unfortunately, no one has any respect for anything these days.

Respecting the game is playing the game hard for 9 innings no matter the situation, and respecting the fans that pay to watch your team is putting on a show for 9 innings, this is a competition, you respect your opponent when you’re off the field. when you’re on the field, you play hard.

@@peskytalk Play hard. Agreed. You do not show up your opponent. You do not hit a grand slam on a 3-0 count when you’re up by a million. These are not new. This is how the game is played. If a man can’t except that, he should find another sport.
