if you feel comfy enough to read the all for the game do so- i will say it deals with very heavy topics and its brought up in discussions in such a casual way, but the characters are all so different and (as you said) traumatized. the thing that i like about this series is the characters individually and together. they all have experienced trauma but deal with it in their own way. secondly, as the story goes on, they build insane relationships and embody the found family trope. again, trigger warrnings are important and read it if and only if you are comfortable enough
