The way Minecraft repairs itself is it checks the SHA256 hash of the JAR file and the hash in the "version.json" file right next to the JAR. If the hashes aren't the same, there's a link right next to the hash, where the launcher downloads the client from. Deleting the property makes it so the launcher cannot download the original version so you can mess with it as much as you can :)

I'm gonna pretend that I understand what you're saying.

Unplugging the internet to prevent Minecraft from running file checks and downloading the client again to repair itself, is like turning off the town's power so the bank's security systems don't come back on lol.

Unlike any other texture image that models’ materials use directly (and thus can be easily replaced with the fallback if it goes missing), colormaps are used by Minecraft’s shader which determines the pixel coordinates on the colormap to give blocks such as grass a different shade depending on the biome. It’s not directly used by the material of any model, and that’s why it has no fallback texture file… which crashes the game.

It's not as hard to read as possible. Additionally, Mojang didn't do this to prevent reading, as they provide mappings to fix it. They do this to make the JAR smaller for non-technical audiences who won't be reading the code. Also it can decrease load times with such a big project, such as Minecraft.

@@Hybrid_Quagsire jar is java's achieve file type which is usually used as something like ".dll" or ".exe" in Windows. Since Minecraft:Java Edition is written in Java, the whole game executable is in a ".jar" file which needs some command-line arguments to run properly, that's why you need a launcher to launch the Minecraft: Java Edition. Simply speaking, JAR is just something like ZIP or TAR etc. And mapping is a kind of data that helps you (or a program) deobfuscating obfuscated code and recover the original source code. Mojang publish the mapping in order to make modding easier. Directly publishing the whole deobfuscated source code violates Mojang's EULA, so you can only use a program to deobfuscate the code yourself and cannot publish the deobfuscated code.

@@yon9654 There are two separate concepts at play here, compiling and obfuscation. Compiling java code files into jar/class files makes it possible to run the files, but it you want to read or edit the code you must first decompile it back into java code. Obfuscation (specifically remapping) changes how things are named, for example EntityCreeper.class might get remapped to Abc.class. If you now want to comfortably read the code you'll need to reverse the mappings.

This is the equivalent of pulling out pieces of Minecraft's brain just to see what happens. And I am absolutely here for it.

color map is required for biome generation btw, so no color map means unable to know biomes. it's just coordinates though, so untextured is fine, but it still needs to be able to lookup coordinates

Finally. A more lightweight version of minecraft that my pc can handle

the reason why colour maps are required are due to coordinate maps (probably not the right word, can't remember the actual word for it) a specific shader uses. basically depending on what biome you're on the shader picks specific coordinates from the colour maps so all the foliage and grass will become any colour from those coordinates, without these files the shader freaks out and also causes the game to freak out since the shader is freaking out thus causing a crash

Winrar actually has a reason why its "free" forever - If big companies use it, they have to tell their employees all the time, that they should just close the part that says yo this costs money. In addition, big amounts of licenses for companys are quite cheap, thats how they make money

If you delete metaInf from the .Minecraft folder.. that's actually the folder Minecraft uses to run the error correction when the game launches. Back in the old old days of the original mod loader, before forge, you had to manually delete the metaInf folder everytime you installed a mod.
