I'm almost 2 years into growing out numerous Tosai. At some point, I do observe growing issues on fish at certain "critical density". There seems to be some behavioral triggers from the Koi when there's too many fish despite good mechanical/biological filtration. No matter how much I feed some fish simply do not grow. I'm talking about large density like 250-300 babies in a 3500 gallon pond. You probably already know, when there are too many fish, certain female fish despite having eggs, will not mate. Even males will not mate if there are too many fish as they will "perceive" threats of the eggs being eaten. So there are definitely some environmental factors that trigger behaviors in Koi, from feeding, growing, and breeding.

is not just feeding , remember the koi itself gives out a enzyme that stunt their growth , the more diluted that enzyme is the more they grow , when is too saturated is their form to keep them SURVIVING not thriving , you litery have a guppy size water print for a koi fish that need way more food and space . try with 60 fish you will se rapid growth . im currently growing 40 tosai from 8 cm now they are 15 the smalles and biggest 19 in 2 .5 months using my special mix of saki hikari foods and real vegetables. i got 1200gal . as you can see i got 3x your water print for every fish in a minus 3x pond .
