In a way all 3 doctors are going through something at this point, the war doctors going through the time war and is mourning the people he lost, the 10th is going his meta crisis arc and the time lord victorious arc as well as dealing with the prophecy of his death and the 11th is going through trensalore. They are all dealing with something so it's understandable that the doctor forgot.

Smith did a fantastic job, imo, of showing just how incredibly ancient the Doctor is and how tired he is. Not that Tennant didn't communicate that at times as well, but his Doctor felt as though he was usually barely holding back a righteous fury and or deep pain as opposed to simply being tired beneath all the maniac energy and such.

Pointless for its intended purpose yet it was the single most important calculation the Doctor ever started because it inspired another calculation; the one needed to determine exactly how to freeze Gallifrey in time like a stasis cube using multiple Doctors over hundreds of years. John Hurt is absolutely magic in this episode, but knowing it was originally supposed to be Eccleston as Nine both breaks my heart - Nine is my boy forever - and also makes me wonder how different the dynamic in scenes like this would've been. He was the one who already survived and had ended the Time War. I also wonder how Paul McGann would've played this. Had it just been written that there was no seperate War Doctor, and Eight took the entire Time War for himself. Again, how different would the dynamics have been? Again, John Hurt as War is amazing and we got pure magic from these three. But I can't help but wonder. 💖

I've always loved this scene. The War Doctor isn't yet living with the weight of having killed his people, and so Ten and Eleven are in such different places emotionally to him that they might as well be complete strangers. For Ten, the pain is freshest and he's still carrying all that regret and guilt around as if the war happened yesterday. Eleven, on the other hand, has learned to run from the pain and has distanced himself from it --- frankly, probably having learned from his experience as Ten that it was destroying him. It's so fascinating watching these three versions of the same person from different points in his life interacting. There's always been a tiny part of me that wished it could have been Eccleston in this episode, but John Hurt was pretty amazing nonetheless.

This episode did a really good job at characterizing 10 and 11 with the regret & forget part, not only in this scene, but in the entire episode leading up to it. I believe that the Doctor's next regeneration is subconsciously decided in his last moments. At the end of his life, 10 was filled with so much regret, that he created 11 as more of a coping mechanism, born of the wish for a fresh start. After Day of the Doctor, 11 overcame his fear of "growing up" as the War Doctor so eloquently put it, which resulted in 12.

I think her overall point was the analogy of the Sonic Screwdrivers to the Doctors themselves. Hence her saying "same software, different face" the last time.

@@sonicfan4511 plus it likely subconsciously reminds 11 about the subroutine that he’s been calculating via the TARDIS for a time lock since he was the first Doctor…

Matt Smith deserves just as much praise as David Tennant and it’s so frustrating he’s so overshadowed

A very famous escape artist once made a bet he could escape the most secure prison with just his street clothes and so someone took him up on that bet. He took off his belt and used a tool built into it but couldnt get the lock to click and after I think a week he lost his mind and gave up. Once he gave up, the people came to let him out and simply pushed the door open. It was unlocked

The way 10 looks at 11 when 11 says he has no idea. The anger, the fury, and dissappointment. The time war is still rather fresh for 10, 9 didn't live long. It's all still there for 10.

If The 9th Doctor was there he would probably have said “THEY WHERE 2 BILLION CHILDREN!!!” fallowed by the 10th “2.7 BLILLION I HAD THE NEVER TO ROUND UP THE NUMBER EVENTUALLY…”

"I don't know who you are... either of you. I haven't the faintest Idea..." - because, 'War' Doctor, you don't live with the feeling that you obliterated your own species to the very last man, woman and child despite your desperate desire to end the incomprehensible slaughter of the war.
