What do you think takes the most time? DOING the mind numbingly slow slog that is abrasive blasting, or the time it takes to JUST set up the camera and lighting, then positioning the part in the same spot and orientation to snap all the progress pictures for the stop motion sections of the videos? I'm thinking it's too close to call. 🤔 If you really think about the work it takes to do all this stuff, he's actually not really a mechanic filming the rebuild of his car...... He's a videographer/editor/producer/director who's fixing a Lotus in his spare time. 😏

I watched another tuber who showed how reinforcing the gear lever aperture in the chassis, significantly increases chassis rigidity, It's just a plate welded around the cutout for the gear lever that makes the wall of the box section thicker. It makes up for the loss in rigidity caused by cutting a hole in it.

  • @soupclassicmotoring

Looking forward to the next episode, and I applaud you sticking to your plan of keeping it basically stock, and resisting the urge to fix what isn't broken. I always have good luck with anti seize compound. Regarding the brake line brackets it’s what I’d do at assembly time with just enough in the right places. Here in Canada with the road salt it proves invaluable. The other option can be graphite spray but it can make an overspray mess and not quite as much body to it (but still good as the graphite spray doesn’t attract dust).

This episode gets me thinking of the best way to rig a camera in the blasting cabinet. It's a tough spot cuz as soon as you hit the trigger there's sand flying everywhere and your lens or hopefully (!) lens cover/filter is gonna get trashed. I've used rain deflectors that are essentially a spinning disc of clear plastic in front of the lens. One extra bit that is used involves pointing a small air nozzle at the spinning plastic to help deflect any moisture. I wonder if that could be rigged in the cabinet since there's an air supply? ...or not! 🤑

I really wish I was in a position to become a patron mate, but for over 2 years now I've been medically unable to........ Well, have anything resembling a normal life, let alone work. The benefits I'm getting just about pay my bills, and for any unexpected nececcety for extra cash, I just flog off things like tools from my "BACKUP" backup collection. Luckily, before illness jumped up and bit me in the a*se, I was a bit of a hoarder of old car parts, tools and workshop equipment, this meant that I'd held onto a lot of stuff, like my old Capri parts, for so long that a lot of it had become alarmingly collectable........... Which has been handy (And to think, around 20 years ago I was getting so sick of shuffling the "Ford Crapi" parts around in the sheds and garage, that I seriously considered loading it all into the van and weighing it in !!!! :D ). Anyway, I've always had a soft spot for Esprit's, and really like your video style. I also know that all the pratting about involved in FILMING a project's progress seriously eats into the workshop time where you could actually be making significantly MORE progress, so showing us your project is physically holding up it's completion. As I said, I wish I was in a position to give something back, but unfortuanatly, all I can offer you at the minute is a big thankyou for letting us watch your project take shape, and the assurance that if my circumstances change, you'll be one of the first to know. :)
