I did this to my 08 accent drove it for weeks but sometimes my battery light would come on and flicker I knew this was a bad sign of things to come one morning driving to work. My heat gauge went full blast actually so I pulled over my alternator belt snapped off and ended up burning out my alternator. But not much damage thankfully now I have a new starter and alternator and it runs good don’t drive without your power steering belt lol 👍🏼

My daihatsu 1986 kept running ,though I lost battery voltage ,car alternator stopped luckily limped back home without overheating.do older cars run the water pump separately?

My serpentine belt broke going 70+ on the highway due to the bearing on the tensioner pulley locking up because of water getting into the bearing. So the belt heated up and broke. There was a slight smell of burnt rubber just before it went, but mostly uneventful. Then I see the battery light and also notice the steering is heavier. I turned off as many electronics, already suspecting it was the belt. Fortunately the water pump in the Toyota 4.7 is driven by the timing belt, but the fan was not turning so I had to keep moving. I could've gone longer because the battery was around 11.7v, but I found an Autozone that had the parts about 10mi away and changed the pulley and belt on the parking lot. Not quite the exact same pulley, but it got me home another 300+ mi. So how far you can go depends on whether the belt powers the water pump or not. I did about 20 min and had room for more.

Which pulley did you change

I wouldn't try it unless it was around the block. Even then not a good idea. Overheat the car. Warped heads no power steering nope.

2010 lancer can u drive it with broken belt or off the pulley s a couple blocks?

I did this and now i have coolant leaking every two weeks any ideas ?

My brother just messed my car up on this situation of no belt

My car literally died smh my belt was shredded it cut power from my battery, my car instantly overheated, my brakes, my power steering locked would not work at all🤦🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️ I got it fixed now everything works I didn’t even know it controlled all that

Just experienced this on my BMW E90 320i 2006. I was going for a carwash just a couple blocks from my office. As soon as i fired up the engine, I heard a rattling noise while it was warming up - i didn't put much thought into it as i thought it's just one of the noises BMW's like to randomly make. Well, as i was taking a U-turn to pull into the carwash, the belt broke. Steering got super heavy and i got a battery error on the cluster. However, I kept on driving, reached the carwash, got a carwash, and drove back into my office. (i think it was stupid) My mechanic will replace the belt in the morning in the parking lot. This video gave me hope since i thought what i did would totally fuck my engine up, lol.

thnx i almost drove wit out it. did not know it would do that. powweer pump leaking thought about disconnecting belt until i fixed it. i rather keep it on . now that you educated me

My tachometer was going up, but my car wasn’t going anywhere so I pulled over and the engine died. I popped the hood, and the coolant spill was boiling and overheating thoughts?

That’s exactly my situation, I’m planning on replacing the belt but don’t know for your what the problem is. Did you figure it out

Not bloody long. Maybe to a safe spot to pull over. That bad boy will be overheating quickly. Also, battery being drained. This has happened to two of my daughters. My middle daughter in her jeep, the lights failed, car conked out at a stoplight, car was dead. So, battery went before overheating. For my youngest in a Chevy Cruz, she got the over-temp warning so pulled over. Opened the hood, looked like the engine compartment was shot by a rubber spaghetti gun!

Cruze driver here, same situation. Car was on. Tried to reverse. Car died. I turned it back on, drove like a minute down the road. Battery light came on even though it was JUST at 13.4 . Went to 11.7 and then my car started overheating. My dad told me to check the belt. The belt snapped. We haven’t figured out why yet and now we wait. 🙃
