How Lighting Texture & Gobos Boosts Your Cinematography | Back to Set

Фильм және анимация

Are you looking to take your lighting game to the next level?
Consider incorporating texture into your next setup. This method entails breaking up the light source as a means to create unique light patterns and shadows across certain areas of your shot. If planned accordingly, light texture can save your frame from looking dull or mundane. Moreover, this technique can support you in building out the world of your story.
Join us today on B2S with DP/Host Kevin Reyes, who guides us through the process of breaking up light by introducing modifiers known as Gobos. These thin sheets of aluminum include small cutouts that will break up the light. Tools such as these gobos offer an efficient solution for filmmakers without having to rely on adding more sources to your setup. Sit back and watch closely, because there’s a lot to unpack in this episode!

I never thought about de-focusing the gobo to give the cookies a more softer look! That’s my favorite part of the video. I’ll definitely be using this technique on my next short!

I have loved using my spotlight attachment in corporate video interviews. There is so much white wall space in almost every office it's a necessity. Just wish I had a better way to travel with it.
