I drinked water from the well ...But ther are places were the wells that water is not good i has a smells on petrol.... Libya has cheaper Petroleum then water .... It is a beautiful country ... I would go live there if l become a citizen of Libija.... Again I say it peaceful country good people , no drugs , free education ....

I worked on GMRP for 12 years in the 1990s to the early noughties specifically on water quality. There were initial problems but these were not high overall total dissolved solids but were caused by high iron content in one wellfield and high nitrate in another. The drawdown was unexpectedly high as well. When I left in 2003 the supply to the municipalities was well established. The agricultural projects where under development and progressing well. They only bombed it bacause they out military bu its and supplies there. The strike killed six people mainly few gaurd and after the nato command warned not to continue bombing as it would cut water lines off yet gaddafi kept using it to sheild his ammo dumps. Later on during the civil war one of the faction cut the water supply to pressure the other side ever since then it has t been finished. Cant blame it all on the us own you own part of it.

Gaddafi is odd but his contribution to Libya development is unbelievable. Sanctions hurts the people more than the leader, he did what he could and he had made to most out of it. Libya, Africa and the World missed a lot in potential from Gaddafi's ideas, ambitions and leadership. Libya had one of the most supporting governments out there for their people especially compared to now. The Gold Dinar was going to replace the dollar and so had to be removed.

@@Arturo-lapaz Wrong person, Saddam invaded Kuwait, not Ghaddafi. Libya did not have a strong military, as it did not think to need one. That's why all it took was the US aerial bombing campaign to completely topple the man. Anyways, Kuwait was an illegitimately drawn country that the British quartered off. The country only had 1 million people and a disproportionate amount of oil that went you can guess where... Iraq maintained it was their land since the 60s, it was not a sporadic invasion.

But I spent a considrable time in Kuwait, at KISR with sea water desalination. And I saw the destruction after the invasion and brutality Sadam's 'soldiers' unleashed on the population, and the burning and burning, endless burning of the oil fields. More in terms of foreign meddling - note that Libya would still be under Ghaddafi and would be much larger and more influential - if not for French interference and finally US subjugation. The dysfunction of Africa is directly a result of European colonial and post-colonial destabilization.

There was a book that was a must read when I took up religious studies back in 1980. I forget the name, but I still have the book somewhere, but it was a dialogue between scholars of the 3 big religions, Islam, Christianity, and Judaism. It was a great book, and it worked through the similarities rather than differences of the religions, and why we should see each other as brothers and sisters rather than adversaries. That book came about because of Qaddafi, who brought these scholars together.

Desalination keeps getting more affordable. So I wonder how long it will remain worth it to keep the pipeline maintained. Desalination is expensive, but long distance transport of water and the effects of disrupting the aquifers are also.

You're telling me this is cheaper than desalination? Desalination must be expensive! I'd definitely look into desalination again, and research cheaper methods. I thought of love before I went to uni. Used the sun to evaporate the water and leave the salt, then some clear covering to stop and later condense the water. Seems like a more energy efficient way. Maybe this doesn't work in practice. Using fossil water isn't sustainable, so it'll run out eventually, like India is finding.

one of the biggest problem with underground water is for crop irrigation, because it has to much salt in it and turn crop into a salt desert in less than a decade because there is no rain so the salt stay in the ground and accumluate year after year

I want to say Algeria along the coast has gigantic screens put up that moisture collects on runs down the screen and collects into tanks at the bottom. They then use that for irrigation of plants. It's been a highly successful project and has helped reclaim some of desert back into useful land again. The surprising thing that scientists who are watching these projects are learning is how important green space is. Green cools the air which helps is rain more often. Ever see a blob of green rain on a radar map head for a city in the summer then poof it's gone. Yeah.... HEAT. The air has to be able to cool for it to rain.

If you can shift faster than that the wind can do.... then you have the wind and Nature to your benifits utility.... that's how mind of usability living works

Shame on Nigeria’s leaders! They squandered similar oil resources and have been unable to get any significant infra structures built. Nigeria has unsafe roads, unreliable electricity, poor internet and web development, not to mention lack of security, minimal agribusiness, horrible schools and universities!
