Hey Boone, there is an error I think. I don't think Bevel and Emboss is entirely an Interior Layer Style. That is because it has 'Outer Emboss' as one of it's styles - and the Outer Emboss does not affect the inner pixels of the layer. It creates the stylization outside of the edges of the layer. Thoughts? Furthermore, I think with Layer Styles you have more control and customization over the Shadow. With the Drop Shadow effect, your shadow is exactly the size of the layer. But with the Layer Style, using the Spread and Size, you can make your shadow larger or more spread out. Of course, you could argue that depending on the light situation, you may or may not want a larger shadow - but the fact that Spread and Size allow us that level of customization and flexibility makes it more powerful. Wow, great tutorial! You explain very clearly! Popped up at random after I was pondering the question "why is layer styles a seperate thing and not just affects like everything else so you can control the render order" I guess google reads minds now too... But now I understand the difference and why layer styles has it's advantages in certain settings, so thank you! :)

If I turn a solid (circle) with a layer style (inner/outer glow) and i check the 3d box (enable manipulation in 3 dimension) It removes the layer style and just show a black solid. Is there a way to fix this issue?

I don't think you can use layer styles on 3D objects.

So I tried both the effect and the layer style on two different text layers, and they react the same way when I rotate the text. Any idea why?

It has to do with render order. Maybe try it as a precomp? I can't remember how to do that.

what if I want to delete a portion of the layer style? For example, I dont want a stroke to cover all the layer perimeter. How do I delete just a part? Please Help

Can't you just turn off the visibility of a specific layer style?

@@diegoprods7971 Oh, sorry I read that wrong. You want to delete just part of it. Not sure. Maybe with masking and a basic composite over a duplicate. No idea, I'd have to look.
