Didn't make it into the final cut but the troops fighting in close combat get beat by the Flayed Ones, then they both get blasted by multi meltas. One of them actually gets a Necron with his bayonet but it stands up again and gets him back unfortunately. This is from the book: Dead Men Walking

Just finished the audiobook a few weeks ago, hearing how the cold, ruthless nature of the Kriegsmen has such demoralizing effect among their allies, their own commissars included, was a perfect example, a microcosmos, of the setting as a whole.

“Dead Men Walking” is an excellent book and it is *the* definitive book about the Kriegers and their mentality. That all said, it is *NOT* an easy read by any means and I do not recommend that you read it if you are already in a bad place mentally.

Huh, you know I didn't consider that. A flayer has to be incredibly old and well trained and had huge amount of resources put into them to keep functional but 10 humans with minimal outfitting that are only 25 or so is such a lopsided victory.

Though odds are they are in their low twenty's not teens due to the fact that full adults just are better soldiers. They also may be clones as well we don't have full proof but for this but it's a strong theory so you can also view them as clone troops from star wars.

I remember this book. Dead Men Walking. The scene of the battle is a tank of Kriegers charging forward into Wraiths to force them to take physical form to fight in melee and then the Kriegers behind would fire melta and plasma shots into the melee killing their own men and the wraiths.

​​@@hell1942The Kreigsman have a cloning machine on their home planet. So it doesn't really matter how many die. It's their form of penitence to the Emperor. Half their planet wanted to rebel against the Imperium the other not. They got into an all out atomic war. When the Loyalists won they figured the only way, since they destroyed the surface of their planet and couldn't give anything else, to get back into the Emperor's good graces was to show an extreme disregard for their lives in combat.

The death Kriegs are the most stoic and grim regiment (right along with the steel legion) they aren't just going to mindlessly charge into the enemy for no reason (that's just meme jokes) but if they see it's the best way to solve something, they will have no qualms about it. The best comparison it's ww2 Russia, if you replace the desperation with stoicism.

I think there's a difference between fixing bayonets in the stupid hope of winning in melee to using some of the units to distract the enemy in melee while the rest shoot taking advantage of the distraction.

I swear the more I hear about the Krieg the more I think about that one scene from Monty Python and the the Holy Grail where the knight runs up on the guardsmen of the gate.

In the end of the krieg book theres a montage of them being badass which is a lot of fun. A hive tyrant has to take pause because instead of the fear its used to, the mortals are looking at it like "finally it showed up" and started firing

Another great part of this book that the story takes place in is when the planetary govern and Krieg commander meet planetside. For context the Krieg commander has been using all troops like the Krieg do, no causality is too high. So the planetary governor goes up and ask the Krieg commander why his men are being sent to die for little to no gain. The Krieg commander looks him in his eyes and says “I command soldiers, you command citizens both should be ready to lie down their lives in anyway that helps the imperium, are you saying my men should be sent to their death more then yours because they are trained to do it Governor? Do your citizens lack pride and duty to the emperor?”

@@randomelite4562too be fair though the Kriegsmen are dying in droves as well. Krieg Commanders are known to use any troops as cannon fodder as long as the results can be met. They’re brutal but not impractical, if a battle is lost they won’t waste the troops if they can afford not too. At the same time if they can’t avoid the deaths and they know that they will throw an entire regiment to the meat grinder just to stall the enemy.

Back line Kriegsmen looking at the front line sacrificial troops : *Zos lucky bastards!*

Similar tactics, different motivations. Skaven are narcissistic cowards. They want to live and will sacrifice anything to save themselves. Kreigers wish to redeem their people by fulfilling their duty to die for the Emperor. They will sacrifice everything for the glory of the God-Emperor, themselves included.

Id imagine the commander simply ordered, "Friendly fire authorized use your discretion til the threat is eliminated." And that was enough for the kriegsmen.

the flayer virus acts like an infection. if one necron was infected at any point in time, every other necron that gets into contact with it are inevitably infected aswell. So yeah, it can happen.

The Flayer virus is poorly understood even by the Necrons. What we do know is that it is memetic (just knowing about it can be an infection vector) and that even encountering one is a reason to quarantine for at least a couple centuries. Flayers are no joke.

Palpatine doesn't exist past the movies in lore. Legit just ignore all of it that has Palpatine or Fett being alive or requires those stories. Ignoring that...he is not Alpha plus. The Emperor is a stronger psyker than Palpatine could hope to be. The largest 'legends' feat Palpy has is a black hole. Emps has caused ruptures in the warp itself...that is the equivalent of ripping a hole in space directly into the afterlife. Emps could literally crush Palp without trying, most of the Primarchs could as well. Oh no a lighstsaber...that couldn't cut through the power armor faster than Palps would have his body crumpled. This is the problem with force users, if they wear armor they lose access to most of their force ability, and your average space marine scout (who is NOT a fully fledged space marine yet, scouts are young and don't have all of their implants yet) is moving as fast as a force empowered jedi/sith but doing so under their own power while in armor. "I can create black holes!" "Congratulations, you are being attacked from the other side though. GG."

The *instant* this video started, i knew it was about the scene in Dead Men Walking where the Death Korp were fighting and realized theyd need to buy a few minutes while heavy weapons were brought to bear and without a pause the first rank drew bayonet "swords" and charged, only to be ripped to pieces, and then the Flayed ones looked up, and found themselves facing down the Kriegsman heavy weapons and got slaughtered... that scene has stayed with me since i read it years ago, because that kind of commitment yo your own inevitable mortality is... mind shattering

Fighting soldiers who have absolutly no fear and whoare very competent and overall are easibly replacable is a true nightmare

Something else that must also contribute to Krieger's willingness to die is the PTSD from killing so many of their own friends.

Sounds like conscript tactics in DoW Apocalypse. Playing vs friends, my buddy on my team looks at the front line and comments to me, "Uh Squid, your men are just running into the enemy and dying, without even getting a shot off. Did you forget to cancel that rally point?" watching as a constant steady stream of men infinitely run to their doom. To which I reply enthusiastically, "Oh nah, that's intentional. Those are conscripts so they don't cost me anything to recruit. They're serving as spotters for my artillery!" And he's like, "Oh... I see... oh dear..." ( He normally knew me as a super wholesome and compassionate person. So this was a character break moment for him, witnessing my "leadership" in the context of 40k. xD )

Now that's what I call *friendly* fire.

In all fairness those who got shredded by the weapons, torn by the claws or atomized by gauss fire were probably the lucky ones that went out quick. All I’m saying is that if the alternative would be to live to face a more gruesome death I too would be charging the flayed ones in melee with a melta/Krak nade in hand

A Kriegsman, only lives so they can die for the emperor, for his people, and for the defeat of the enemies of the empire. Now imagine if they find something else to live for, something that will keep them alive longer. The Kriegsmen, are scary when they don't value their lives, but imagine how scary they would be if they finally had a value again.
