@Itanchiro Do you mean a person who impersonates unusual, unique, interesting side characters (character actor), a person who draws illustrations of characters from existing comics (fan-art cartoonist or fanfic comic book artist), or a person who draws humerous exaggerated portraits of people (caricature artist)? I really like the yukata worn in kimono style. It's worn like a kimono so it has the beauties and style of it which I think is really pretty as well as the colorful designs of Yukata. It's probably easier to move in too so I could say that would be my "ideal" kimono if I were to wear it one day. Thank you so much for the video, Shogo.

So glad I watched this! I have plans to crochet (かぎ針編み) a koi scale pattern kimono and there was loads of info that will help with measuring the pieces to fit me perfectly - like all the "length of index finger" measurements. I'm 6' tall so following a pattern for an average woman's kimono size would probably look a little small on me. I tried searching google in both English and Japanese to see if anyone else had crocheted a kimono before but could only find stuff like amigurumi geisha, which is not exactly the same scale as a full adult size piece. It's going to be a fun challenge!

I'm in a similar situation with the wool men's kimono and Nagoya obi that I found at a second-hand store. I decided to wear them to an anime club meeting one time and did some research on how to wear them ( which is how I found out it was a men's kimono,) and wound up wearing a turtleneck and leggings under it to protect it from skin oil, and decided to go for an index finger length fold like in the video with a random peice of cord I had lying around. This did result in the hem being waaay higher than ankle or floor length since men's kimonos don't have extra length for folding, but I thought it looked nicer with the obi that way, and it made it easier to run in (which I needed to do to be on time to one of my classes.) The whole outfit was basically a pile of kimom blasphemy, but it wasn't for a formal event or anything, so it worked. Took me ages to get the tie the obi right though...

Hi, Shogo-san, thanks for the interesting video. I have a few questions though 1. If you can wear yukata in kimono style, does it still count on the same level of "formalness" as an average yukata or could it be interchangable with Tsumugi/Momen? 2. How can you tell the difference between Hitoe and Yukata on first sight? Aside from yukata being from thinner materials, could you distinguish them from patterns, colours or something else entirely? Thank you! :)

you can increase visual ranking but it is still yukata based on the material it is made out of, usually its never silk! even cotton komon may have differences such as how thin it is or the sleeves. even if the other ranked kimonos are made of silk, you would tell the difference through the pattern! komon have simple patterns that repeat throughout the kimono. iromuji is kimono with no pattern. tsukesage is light patterns typically on the bottom of the komono and on the sleeves. homongi has more ornate patterns that dont repeat. furisode the biggest difference is that the sleeves are way longer. wedding wear kimono is totally different too and have a thick lining at the bottom so it can be draped on the floor. there are many visual and foundational differences between the types of kimono to be able to tell them apart, but in the end its easiest to tell thru pattern and materials 😊

if just day to day, wearing yukata in a more formal style has no issues and is appropriate for outings or casual events😊

omg I'm gonna share this in public after many years keeping it to my self! i used to think that the belts that ladies tie on their kimonos is actually bed sheets and blankets and a pillow so whem the enemies attack them and they run into nature, they atleast have a place to sleep on.🤦🏻‍♀️😂

Thank you for all the wonderful videos you make! I love learning about different cultures and Japan is my ULTIMATE FAVORITE!!! The Clothing is so beautiful!! I always wondered how the puffy, wide belt in the back was tied. I thought it required two people. Does the Kimono and the Yukata have pockets inside the sleeves? Or is it a trick they use in the movies? I LOVE the wide variety of subjects you choose to make your video's. Learning new Vocabulary, Apartment Life ( especially the Squat Toilet), with my balance being so bad, I would have fallen in so many times that I wouldn't need a shower, the Rules of Society, Everyday Living, the Rules of using Chopsticks, Meals, BENTO BOXES and RAMEN NOODLES!!!!!!!!! (Mmmm!!!!) There's just so much to love. I have a question for you. I play "Animal Crossing" on Nintendo Switch and was given a "Kotatsu," what is it and is it still used today? I just want to give you and KZread a huge thanks for allowing me to travel and experience new cultures without leaving my home. Bless you all.

Thank you very much Shogo-san, Harumi-san, and Tomoko-san! Both the yukata and the hitoe are very beautiful! I remember seeing the yukata worn as a kimono in a styling video, but I was not sure about the formality of it. Thank you for explaining in comparison to Western clothing. That was much easier to understand. Just an additional question, the fukuro obi Tomoko-san wore seems to be of an interesting weave. Is that weave specifically for summer?

@@munirahbakar4123 Thank you. That is right, Tomoko-san did mention the design. Kikyou does have a strong association to autumn, but interestingly it blooms between June to September. On the close up of the obi, the warp and the weft seems a bit wider apart than usual weave for fukuro obi, so I wondered if it can be paired with the thinner Ro or Sha kimono in the summer, as well as the single layered hitoe kimono for early fall.
