How Kanye West Uses Samples to Tell Stories
Музыка
Kanye West is widely considered one of the best producers in history. But what's often overlooked is the way he uses musical samples to propel, enrich, and contextualize the larger stories told on his albums. In this video, we dissect the samples on the album Yeezus to show how Kanye West uses samples to tell stories.
Dissect is a serialized music analysis podcast that unpacks the music, lyrics, and meaning of one album per season, one song per episode. Season 8 is dedicated entirely to Kanye West's Yeezus. We also have full seasons on Kendrick Lamar, Frank Ocean,, Childish Gambino, Tyler The Creator, Beyonce, and more.

Once in a few centuries type of artist.
I never even realized how good this album was until it forced be understand. that's the cool thing about true artistic genius... first, because you aren't used to this new forward-thinking idea, you reject it. you try to stay in the safe zone, your comfort zone. but then, as the beauty in it becomes so looming and everpresent that you cant keep it out of your mind, you return to it. then, after giving it time to get to introduce itself, you truly become one with it and what it stands for. that, all that, is what Yeezus taught me. TL;DR, moozik guud.

BRO the crazy thing is on my first faze(when it came out) of listening to the album I was already a big fan of 808's and heartbreak I loved it but I couldn't understand it even though I knew it had a deeper meaning to it I was 14 at that time. Then when the Yeezus tour happened and even if I didn't go to it I listened to his interviews and speeches it really started to structure the album story for me but I couldn't put it in my top five until Ye came out and know with seeing Kanye's whole life as a story it makes it top 5 for me. Actually many people would agree with me but it is top 3 for me lol I love it sooo much it has changed me a lot seeing bacck my life I wouldn't know what type of life I would have seeing how kanye has changed my life.

The narratives of Kanye‘s albums makes me appreciate them so much more
before death grips fans arrive, comparing yeezus to a death grips album is an insult to Arca, Evian Christ, Daft Punk, Hud Mo, Brodinski, etc., who all did spectacular production on this album that stands very comfortably in its own lane.

Fr ppl hear one noisy/abrasive thing and say it’s exactly the same as another. Says more abt them not being able to properly listen to music beyond that. Yeezus is v clearly Chicago/European acid house and dancehall influenced whereas Death Grips is much more psychedelic/industrial rock influenced

Such a dope video! After listening to this season I almost envision this as a movie. After you listen to Guilt Trip you think you know you’re headed towards a resolution and then Send It Up hits you. Then you start to think well this character isn’t going to figure it out. Then you hear Bound 2 where he does find his equal and what he needs. Then right before the song ends it’s almost like in horror movies when you think you’ve killed the bad guy and he opens his eyes and the movie ends. That’s how I feel after Kanye is saying “Bound” at the end of the song as in stuck with. What a great album.
Yeezus is quite simply one of the greatest albums of all time.
