So if that student hadn’t left that page blank, we might never have seen Middle Earth…

Considering the Hobbit wasn't originally part of Middle Earth, I'm not sure about that. Probably would've gotten a more complete version of Silmarillion or more fleshed out, perhaps more first and second age novels. But yeah we would've missed out on Lotr and Hobbit so that would be sad.

Not necessarily because in another video Tolkien said he was already writing about Middle Earth before the story itself. So what you say is not exactly correct if I'm not mistaken. So we might not have gotten The Hobbit but Middle Earth? Unlikely. There was already things like the Fall of Gondolin and others before The Hobbit.

No we would still see Middle Earth, and it wasn't thanks to the student that nobody even knows the name of, only Tolkien
Imagine being the student whose blank exam paper gave the world one of the greatest literary achievements in human history.

Others : dang the page blank it is Tolkein : welcome, the blank page, on which I hereby jot the marvellous opening lines of the glorious fiction there ever will exist.
Even by the way JRR expresses himself you can tell literature and the language of books run through his language and way of being
I love the ramblings of an Englishman, Tolkien is the absolute master of his craft.
The way he said glorious, man it’s so adorable. He’s got all the sweet and safe energy of a hobbit ❤
his students were rlly lucky to have him as a teacher
I'm going to do this on every single exam just so all of you lot can have the coolest stories ever. You're welcome.

As a non native English speaker I can not thank enough the person who added the subtitles
Tolkien was, in my opinion, the greatest writer in the English language in the twentieth century.
salute to the hero who left the blank page
He wanted to say marking papers in summer is a ball ache
So basically, Tolkien started writing The Hobbit when he was bored/got tired of grading exams during Summertime😆👌🏼💓 Gotcha... From now on, I'll never feel guilty for procrastinating on my assignments ever again🤣🙌🏼 Cuz who knows? I might actually let my inner artist jump out as well and implement some new story ideas still lingering somewhere in my mind^^😉 Jokes aside though, I'm glad that Tolkien took this opportunity to fill the blank page... If it hadn't been for this one student, who knows if one of the greatest fantasy tales ever written would've even seen the light of day🤔🤯
I love hearing a fellow infp talk about the mundane things to do and then the blank page where ink to paper makes us feel the most alive...writers are the best minds ❤
Imagine if the studen had finished the exam and left no blank paper.
it all starts with a blank paper. everyone claps the student for his awesome vision of future, he already new what would follow
I'm really reading subtitles for a man speaking English.

Imagine if that student still had that exam .. some nonsensical comment from your professor later becomes the backbone of a literary masterpiece.

You the man, Mr. Tolkien.
Plot twist: Tolkien stole the idea from the student
I hope prof Tolkien doesnt chew me out for the blank page-his student probably
What an animated man
I used to do something similar in the back of my exams between the ages of 10 and 14 I guess. Some teachers asked byt they were mostly concerned with how bad I was doing at school those years, I reproved 5th grade (I think that's the closest to the american system) 3 times. Today I blame my ADHD, at the time my mother thought I was just lazy, and also the pure nightmare it was at home being around constant fights between ny mother and her boyfriend.
The camera shaking and slowly zooming in annoys me… it will probably annoy you now that I brought it to your attention. You welcome.
He speaks so much like Rowley Birkin QC that I find it hard to believe the character wasn't based on him specifically
