Viserys was supposed to stay in Pentos as a guest until the day Khal Drago was ready to gift him an army. He insisted on travelling with them and was a walking disaster, pissing off everyone, even his own sister. Jorah knew the man was never going to change and would be nothing but a problem for him. And as he showed later on in the series he's very good at getting rid of problems.

To paraphrase Napoleon Bonaparte : Never interfere with your enemy, when he is about to commit a mistake.” Jorah’s inaction to prevent Visery from taking a wrong step, could be seen as an action onto itself. Jorah may have lit the fuse and stood back to appear as an “unheeded voice of reason”. Visery was an impediment for the advancement of Daenerys, if Daenerys was to rule, Visery would have to be removed. Quite a machiavellian plot twist, that even the Borgias would have been proud of.

It escapes me at the moment which empire exactly they did it to, but they didn’t want to shed royal blood so they wrapped them in a rug and rode over them with their horses. Being that the Dothraki pretty much seem to be modelled after the Mongols or maybe the Huns, I imagine GRRM probably got the idea from that.

Valyrians probably had an immunity to the consequences of incest in some way, being of Dragonblood for example, Dragons are "magical" after all (there are also animals who end up with their siblings in certain circumstances (wolves for example)). But the Targaryens ended up marrying non Valyrians on Westeros because of the machinations of the noble houses. It is very likely, that the Westerosi created the madness they had to suffer under themselves😅😂 I also don't believe Maegor was mad, but rather obsessed with prophecy, like Rhaegar. Viserys was a complete idiot. Even if his interpretation had been right and 'can't shed blood' did mean can't kill, how did he think publicly threatening to cut the Khal's baby out of his siter's belly was going to end well? Can't shed blood doesn't mean Drogo couldn't break most of his bones, or just beat on him with his fists. He could have had Viserys dragged outside the city and then cut his throat. The moment he threatened his sister in front of Drogo he was dead regardless of the customs and laws.

"Can't shed blood" and "Can't Kill" are two very different terms. The dothraki simply can't _spill_ blood in Vaes Dothrak, but they certainly can _kill_ people. Hanging, Broken Bones, Neck Snapping, Molten gold being poured over your head. All of these are gruesome modes of killing that don't spill a single drop of blood.

I always assumed the loopholes were the people making things up. Dorthraki were at each others throats all the time and would fight all the time, the rule of no blood spilled was made to assure the kalasars can be united in any way. Idk if it's said if Drogo ever killed anyone else in Vaes Dorthrak but it seemed like the start of his end. He chose Danny and ego over his people's "rules", same thing he does when he gets wounded and same thing he does when he gets his wound treated by Miri and eventually dying.

I think he did what he may have done for multiple reasons, working for the interests of both sides because it was to his benefit to do so. In part, he was doing his duty to Robert and Varys while also honoring his loyalty to Dany. I'm not saying that what Jorah likely did was right or that I approve, but I do get it. Viserys was a liabikity to put it kindly. At best, his brashness, entitlement, and insolence would have simply lost them their best opportunity to reconquer Westeros, and at worst, he could get them all killed. One way or another, he had to go. He was too proud to listen to reason. Jorah may share some of the guilt in Viserys's murder, but at most, he simply nudged him into a potentially compromising situation in which his own good or bad behavior would determine whether or not he got killed. Had he chosen to behave differently, he probably wouldn't have been killed since Drogo probably wasn't inclined to go out of his way to murder his wife's brother and his brother-in-law unprovoked, especially when the couple were on positive terms (you know, as much a marriage involving a child bride can actually be on "positive terms," agh). At the end of the day, Viserys sealed his own fate, regardless of Jorah's complicity. Worth mentioning is that even if Jorah did misinform Viserys, it's just as possible that either Jorah himself misinterpreted the Dothraki custom and unintentionally misinformed Viserys or that Viserys simply misinterpreted what Jorah had every intention of accurately conveying to him. We just don't know, and that room for mystery and speculation is a part of what makes ASOIAF so compelling and ripe for discussion.

Feel bad for Viserys. He spent his early childhood strapped to the mad kings side. Never alone with anyone, other than the king. The king thought Raeghar to be lost to him. Raeghar was nothing like a Targaryn prince should be! The king would groom Viserys in his image and ideology. Teach him their history and make him feel important! The king would even have the wet nurses' milk tasted first before he could suckle/feed, and had to be done in front of him. His mother wasn't really allowed to see him at all. Then.... His whole world/family/lifestyle disappeared in a second and he was the Beggar King 😢 with nothing but memories of what had been. And, then, again, had to literally raise his younger sister the whole time, while they were alone. He kept Dany alive. Was a twat, but still had a bond with her. All those years running and begging took a tole on the "precious" selfish boy, for him to finally see his dream about to come true, finally. Can understand his frustration and that he didn't understand dothraki customs. Khal Drogo would have fulfilled his promise... when he wanted to though. Kinda sad. He was his father's hope for the future over the weak willed Rhaegar. Might have killed Rhaegar to ensure a loyal puppet that he alone groomed as his successor.

Viserys was willfully ignorant and contemptuous of dothraki culture. He was told repeatedly that him giving Daenerys to Khal Drogo as a wife was considered by the dothraki as gift giving. Khal Drogo would give a gift of 10,000 in return, but it shouldn't be rushed. Viserys stubbornly refused to believe that and repeatedly demanded that he get his army. He asked when they would give him his army. jorah told him that it would happen when their omens favored war. Viserys responded by saying "i piss on dothraki omens". It is entirely possible that viserys willfully misinterpreted the banning of spilling blood in vaes dothraek. He interpreted that the dothraki weren't permitted to kill there. After all, the guards who would strangle thieves were a group of slaves not themselves dothraki.

Well, they were right about blood not being spilled in Vaes Dothrak. Bleeding would’ve been a lot better for viserys than what he got.

Jorah only changed his mind about killing the Targaryens after Dany reborn from the fire and ashes at the end of the first book, before that he was conflicted about her sure, but hey it was his job to kill them So yeah, making Viserys death a misunderstood tragedy was kinda perfect, no risk at all and jobs done

I am pretty sure Viserys knew that weapons were not allowed inside the temple

It makes sense Jorah was there to betray them both but he fell in love with Daenerys (which gross but whatever) no one even seemed to like Viserys. So he probably didn’t actively try to he was just letting him experience the consequences of his own actions. Easier to stay on her side if it looks like he’s just a bystander

To be entirely fair to Jorah I’m sure he’d have gotten himself killed without anyone’s help by no more than a month or two after that.

I mean, they didn’t really shed blood, they just poured molten gold on his head.

I don't seem to remember jorah saying that killing is forbidden and upon entering Vaes Dothrak, Viserys would have seen this rule in effect without jorah saying a word as he saw everyone including (and probably especially dothraki which was explicitly described in the 1st book)..... seems to me that it could just as easily been Viserys assumption that the no metal cutty-stabby rule meant no killing at all rather than just a way to prevent full scale battles between khalasars in their holy land. Unless i missed something, Jorah didn't lie. He just didn't correct viserys misunderstanding
