Can we just talk about how Manny was involved in Jay's proposal plan? Like that is genuinely so heartwarming, being a kid to a stepparent that literally surprised me with the fact that he was marrying my mom. Jay basically asked for Manny's blessing and he gave it wholeheartedly.

He then says "huh, we should get married." and my mom was like "oh ok." thinking he wasn't serious. The next day, he wakes her up and says " Come on, let's go buy a ring." and she was so confused but still went and the rest is history. Tbh, I wish I had as much game as my dad.

My dad’s family didn’t believe wearing jewelry was right (they saw it as a misuse of money) so he never got my mom a ring. He called her on the phone while in college and asked if she’d marry him. He got her an “engagement watch.” Years later, my dad and his family changed their hearts/minds on the jewelry issue. One Christmas morning my dad said “there’s one last gift under the tree,” and he pulled out a box, got on one knee, and opened it for my mom. We didn’t get it at the time, but my sister and I saw my mom tear up with happiness.

My grandparents got engaged at a party, it was winter and my grandfather brought my grandmother to the car and proposed. My grandmother, who was freezing, asked "If I say yes can we go inside?" So of course my grandfather agreed and she's just like "Okay then yes." Then they went inside and they were married for over 45 years before my grandfather passed. Bonus fact: my grandmother used my grandfather in the beginning to get a taste of freedom since she was a very sheltered only child growing up so she was in it for the dates and such. She realized she was in love with him when he couldn't stay over for some holiday, (maybe Memorial Day weekend? Or maybe something else I have to ask her again.) And she stayed up in her room and realized she really missed him.

Umm...used? More like women had no options, couldn't get real jobs or a bank account, and she chose a man who seemed nice. Also if she was from a conservative family you have to marry the first guy you date & if he didn't harm her that's a good bet because often those are abusive relationship with the women not being able to get a divorce cause she's her husband's "property"... I'm glad they found love but demonizing your grandmother sucks. Women had it a lot harder then, not to mention she'd need to trade off being a domestic slave & most women don't get to choose to not have kids so she's his brooding mare n must have sex with him right away after marriage, whether she wants to/is ready or not. Try putting yourself in her position instead of judging her decisions so harshly. She's the reason you're alive today.

My dad "proposed" to my mom in the parking lot of an abortion clinic. My mom was pregnant with me, I was their fourth kid and they could barely afford to feed my three other siblings. But my mom couldn't go through with the abortion, so they decided to keep me. While they sat in the car, my mom sobbing and contemplating on how they were ever going to make this work, my dad grumbled, "well I guess we are getting married now". After 20 years of arguments, screaming, and enough tears to fill an ocean, they are currently in the process of divorce. I love them both, and for all of the bad times there were plenty of good ones. Through thick and thin they stuck it out for us and though maybe we weren't the happiest, I wouldn't trade them for the world. I hope they can both find happiness now.

And he started laughing but I knew he meant it, so I said "I'd love that, actually". And we ask each other in marriage every day since. I’m divorced and I’m currently engaged now, and he proposed to me with out a ring (I have one now) in the home we share. I loved both ways I was proposed to. Because they loved me enough to want to be with me and I loved them back. That’s all it takes. Not how fancy it is, but the thought behind it. Of course I would have loved a big show and planning, but to me, being that vulnerable and having nothing or little to offer but still offering what they can, means so much more to me.

The one time i was engaged the proposal was just as nonchalant as the date request, had asked a girl to prom by also asking for her number to play D&D (both of us were huge nerds) passed my phone over so she could read the question i had, responded by just typing yes and then had a laugh as i really did need her number, friend heard i was taking her to prom and asked if we were dating, looked at each other, nodded a bit then said yeah, years later after graduation had gotten a good job but worked overnights, had gotten a little gift for her for the morning, flowers, a note and her favorite candy and drink (mountain dew code red and sweedish fish) and had a super nerdy ring holding it all together (and by super nerdy i mean, its 'The One Ring' from LotR) with a cute note proposing and asking her to be my precious, woke up that morning to her having called off work and snuggled into me just so she could give me her answer

I got my wife a sorta crummy ring at first, we got careers and more income, and I got her a ring she really wanted at 5 years. She never cared from the start, she told me, "I'm not marrying a ring, I'm marrying you" and that was that.

These two are so wholesome. No concern for age or nationality, just pure love.
My parents' backstory: My dad said "Where do you want to go for the honeymoon?" and my mom jumped at it by saying some name of some place, that means she accepted without his proposal you know.
My fiance and I chose out the ring together weeks earlier, but the way I proposed was awesome, in my and her view. Having said that, I told her flat out that I was going to marry her almost a year earlier, about 4 or 5 months into our relationship. She was pleased. We had a lot of serious conversations about our future early on in our courtship. It's easy to do when you're talking to the person who has become your best friend. Kudos to Jay on his original plan.
Al Bundy to jay still an inspiration after all these years

I didn’t have a ring, she was crying because I was moving away, we had only known eachother three months. I grabbed her face n pinched it n gave her a kiss and said you are gonna marry me. We have no been happily together for almost 4 years haha
My husband and I had discussed getting married from a year before he proposed, we waited and prayed in that time and he spoke to my mother beforehand, he asked me while I was changing my clothes after a very hot day at the Licensing department in Randburg, Johannesburg( I’m South African) so I got my drivers License and engaged on the same day

Jokingly, my fiance and I would ask each other "do you want to be my bf/gf?", And then one day we went grocery shopping and at the frozen food section he grabbed the same snacks I was reaching for, and I laughed and asked if he wanted to be my boyfriend, and he said "absolutely, would you like to be my wife?" And he started laughing but I knew he meant it, so I said "I'd love that, actually". And we ask each other in marriage every day since. I know a romantically proposal with a pretty ring will come eventually but really, the truthful spontaneity of the original one is something I'll always cherish. My husband didn't propose exactly. We were on a date, and in his truck he said "so when are we getting married?" I couldn't help but smirk and i picked a date , and two months later we were married. These have been the best 5 years of my life.
my dad was gonna propose to my mom at Disneyland, but Michael Jackson booked out the whole park that day 😂 he proposed in front of some big fountain at a nice mall block in Anaheim that night instead
I was supposed to have this elaborate proposal, but I was having the worst day and I also got laid off from my job. So she thought she could make my day better.
omg this stories here are so cute
I love how you can see her fall in love again hearing him tell the story.
My husband just bit my ring finger and caressed the bite marks as he said " I want to put on a more permanent ring. Will u marry me? " 😂

Wait why is that SO witty and good
My parents were sitting on the couch together. My dad turned to my mum "Yknow? We should get married." my mum responded "Yknow? We should."
My man proposed to me at the roller rink then broke his nose about 10 mins later, it's the best story I got.

At least he got to propose before he broke his nose lol
This is so sweet. Love this couple.
It's sweet how Jay worked Manny into his proposal to Gloria.
They're my favorite couple on the show. ♡
"I love my new story" xD
This was one of the sweetest modern family episodes. Especially Claire and phil. Now I want to see the whole episode
Mine never actually proposed. We were probably going to be common law forever, even after buying a house and having a child together. He organically started calling me his wife. But then his kidneys failed and he wanted to protect our interests if he didn't make it. He survived and is doing as well as he could be given the boatloads of drugs keeping mt dad's kidney from being attacked by hus immune system. I guess it works? 😆🤷

I think I should just start calling my partner my husband randomly since we might never get married
I’ve been married once. He proposed to me with a rubber band in our living room of the first apartment we had. Of course I would have loved a big show and planning, but to me, being that vulnerable and having nothing or little to offer but still offering what they can, means so much more to me.
my dad told my mom "pick a day"
I remember my dad telling me that him and my sister totaled the car in an accident, and instead of using the insurance money to pay for the car, he bought my mom an engagement ring. He rode a bike everyday to work after that until they could afford another car.
My dad proposed to my mom on New Year's lol. But not in a romantic way. He just looked at her and said "are you going to marry me this year, or what?" And she said "sure, why not?" She thought he was joking. The next day after they woke up, he got a calendar and told her to pick a day XD
For some reason the KZread algorithm really wants me to see clips of Modern Family lately..
Bundy still got it

My mom married my dad because she lost a bet to him. Didn’t even like him that way at the time and still went through with it lol
My dad and mom just started talking about getting married like it was a business arrangement….then one day, they were driving to work and my dad said “I guess I better get a ring” 30 years later and still each other’s partners in life! 🥰
this scene is so heartwarming 💖
" the waiter was gonna come by and offer coffee..." Me🥺😭, already tearing up...❤️
my husband swears that I told him that we should get married and that's why he was so confident to propose only 2 months after knowing each other. i don't remember it that way, but every single day i'm glad i said yes❣
My dad just proposed to my mom while they were deployed bc my mom was like, “wish we could’ve been stationed together” and my dad just hit her with, “then let’s get married so we can” Just so you know, my parents had only known each other for 3 days when they got engaged.
my dad literally tossed the ring to my mom in the car, said marry Christmas, my mom just looked at him, asked what it meant and he said whatever she wants, so they got engaged
I love these 2 together so much. The more i rewatch the show, the more i think they're the best relationship in the show. They both have stereotypical reasons to stay married(his money, her young age) but they genuinely love each other so much.
That was a beautiful story, really loved it
My dad proposed at the parking lot of my mom's work and she told him to get up cuz people we're watching
my parents are about to celebrate 30 years and their story was simple too I think they were like wstching tv or something normal and my dad jus kinda looked at her and was lik 'I guess we been together for a while now may as well get married' 😂
My husband proposed by tossing the ring box at me and asking "You wanna?". I said sure. We celebrated our 4 year anniversary on 10/13 and our baby just turned 2 months.
Men need to understand that the ring is secondary the story is first. Woman want to feel they went through all the time planning and choosing things for this special proposal.

Amen to that
Three things Gloria loves (1) a good argument (2) romance/stories (3) her Jay.
We went to the same place we had our first date. He was so nervous and made a speech it was so sweet. I got down on the floor and hugged him it was a great day. ❤️ 💙 💜 💖
My dad just casually said to my mom they should get married
she really is so romantic.. and so is he! I am having a moment again!
My parents went on 3 dates not even holding hands(conservative Asians) then my dad came to my mom’s house to ask my mom’s mother for permission to let them get married and they did.
Awww ❤️🤭
