How Ja’Marr Chase destroyed Marlon Humphrey | Film Room

Спорт

In my latest video breakdown, I wanted to look at Ja'Marr Chase and his incredible 200+ yard performance against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 7. He was DOMINANT in this game. Ja'Marr Chase's route running with his vertical stems combined with his excellent hand fighting abilities really make him a dangerous wide receiver. In this game, Marlon Humphrey was in coverage on 27 of Ja'Marr Chase's 36 routes. This represents 75 percent of the game. Of those routes, Marlon Humphrey allowed 5 catches on 7 targets for 165 yards and a touchdown. Now to Marlon Humphrey's credit, he did force a fumble that unfortunately went out-of-bounds and he did have an endzone interception.

Chase was great this game, but Joe Burrows timing on those cutbacks and backshoulder routes was just absurd. The pass at 6:34 was particularly amazing. Had he thrown that any later marlon would have knocked that pass down for sure. I think the most impressive part about Ja'Marr Chases game is the contested catch ability. He probably won't break a tackle and slip in between 4 defenders to run it 70 yards for a TD again in his career, but you know he will be mossing defenders for a long time to come.

@@checkmarkdatter1785 What do you mean by does it count? His best plays of the game were his last two catches where he mossed defenders on the sideline. His second TD grab was great as well. Those long TDs are great, but they usually only happen if a defender messes up a coverage or takes a bad route to tackle. It takes way more skill to consistently make those tough contested catches which not many receivers can do it on the regular. Hopkins, Adams are the best at those kinds of catches which is why they are considered the best in the game. In my opinion chase is right behind them However, he is lucky to have a QB good enough and willing enough to throw those passes all the time. There play together just speaks volumes about their chemistry.

The digs were pretty bad tbf. He was beat multiple times on digs when he wasn't even targeted too. Also, two fades (backshoulder, then the one up the right sideline). Also there was a hitch that Chase smoked Humphrey on. Humphrey played MOST of the fades pretty well, but Chase did catch two on him.

As a Ravens fan, it seems like one of those bad games that you get every now and the from a great player. Seems like Marlos technique was not good this game (maybe due to coaching idk) but he didn’t play like usual. And I’m not taking anything away from Chase just seems like Marl was very off his game. And yes I know I’m extremely late 😅

Chase took Marlon off his game. Marlon is no slouch, but Chase made him look like a practice squad player in this game.
