    hi, there is a company called sofnolime, that makes a material called CaOH. we took the cabin air in the sub and circulated it with a fan through this chemical. The chemical removes exhaled CO2 and allows us to stay down with almost no supplemental oxygen. We carry a small bottle of oxygen with us and release a small amount every 30 min or so. We also have a CO2 meter to tell us if the scrubber is working and to let us know when the CaOH is saturated. Email me for info on ballast

    How did you make sure the ones inside could breathe? How did you manage to do the motor? Just by placing the entire thing on the outside? How deep can it go? How heavy is it? Outstanding work!

    I drew up plans for a propane sub just the other day and wondered if anyone else had thought of it - now I know. Good job. The things that had me most confused were sealing the ports and propulsion. It looked like you used external motors on the planes as well as a main prop being driven from a motor on the inside. How did you seal the driveshaft?

    @@steveseymour1739 Exactly! 😁 I've been toying around with the idea on my drafting table for some time now. Using a 100k gal propane tank with curved railroad track bent into ribs... Just can't justify the $140,000 and thousands of man-hours to the wife for some reason. 🤔🤣😂 Again, well done! Its is very encouraging to see an enthusiast have such a well built and product!

  • @MrChevelleMan
    @MrChevelleMan12 жыл бұрын

    haha well that's flattering! thank you. There is no drive shaft. There is an electric motor connected to a hydraulic pump on the inside. We welded pipe collars to the hull and connected hoses from the pump to the hydraulic motor on the outside. But honestly this system was a waste of time and space. The two motors in the front pull it faster while using less juice. If i could go back id just put two more trolling motors on the back.

    The math is fairly basic. The sub needs to weigh the same amount as the water that it displaces to be neutrality buoyant. We spent $5,000 total on the sub ( a majority of that was batteries and trolling motors and electronics) and it took 2 months to design and build.

    The pressure gauge that we used is marked in meters of water depth but, one marked in psi will work. You would need to determine the maximum psi your sub can safely descend to. The concrete in the emergency drop weight is 1300 lbs. We have removable steel weights to compensate for heavier or lighter occupants.

    Now just make it bigger. Then another one a bit bigger. It would be nice to end up with one the size of a large SUV so you could remain under water in comfort for many hours. The development should go to large SUV size with comfortable interior and you would have a marketable product for the masses. A new class of personal watercraft. Sailboats, Powerboats, SUBMARINES! Imagine getting into the family submarine for an underwater cruise! Opens a whole other world for people to enjoy.

    ***** I think the weak looking windows will break first, so no risk of the hull to crush. But yes, pressure will quite rapidly increase then and sub will be flooding. I think, in general rapid increase of pressure is not as dangerous as rapid decrease. If you are not too deep you might stay conscious after a windows breaks, although you might pop your eardrums. When flooded you might be able to open and escape through the hatch. Anyways, there are no more video updates from this project by MrChevelleMan so he might not have made it. Great looking boat anyhow and good design and welding work!

    kzread.info/dash/bejne/kZeIps6Ils-Zcps.html I assure you. It did anything but fail. The thing people do not understand is 99% of subs have a depth limit. Does that make them "not" a sub? If so then I guess you can't call an airplane that can not make it to space an airplane. Our goal was to touch the bottom of a 12ft pond. We built it to survive 100ft deep. Lol after accomplishing our goal. We took it to a rock quarry and went to 35 ft. Multiple times without any issues. But that was a very clever comment because now I want to post the footage of our most recent dive.

    well its pretty simple if you keep one thing in mind. The submarine is heavier than water and it will sink as soon as it is placed in the water. This is overcame by tanks called ballast tanks (mine are the blue ones on the outside.) To sink you must be more dense than water, and on the other hand to float you need to be less dense. To become less dense, you fill the ballast tanks with compressed air (which forces the water out) and then you will surface. just like filling a ballon.

  • @steveseymour1739

    @steveseymour1739

    The prop shaft does not go through the hull. The prop is mounted to an external hydraulic motor and the hydraulic hoses attach to pipe fittings that are welded to the hull. A hydraulic pump inside the sub is driven by an electric motor. This is not an efficient system but it does provide a lot of thrust.

    @@steveseymour1739 interesting at some point theres going to need to be haskets or something preventing water entry like when turning the rutters. Some type of part will have to exit the hull to go outside of the craft and i would assume one need a gasket or the like to prevent water entry

  • @steveseymour1739

    @steveseymour1739

    4 жыл бұрын

    atrevido No, there is no need for gaskets because the rudder and bow planes are operated by hydraulic cylinders which have hoses that thread into fittings that are welded to the hull. Fluid pressure is transferred to the cylinders from inside the sub by manual operation. No mechanical linkage goes through the hull.

  • @MrChevelleMan

    you can not use water as weight. If you take two balloons, and tie them together, one is full of air and you fill the other with water; it will still float, the same goes for a sub. Supplemental weight is required, and that weight must be more dense than water to compensate for the buoyancy of the displaced water.

    So...the question I have is from welding class. They told us to never weld or cut on tanks that have ever held flammable materials -- there is a serious risk of explosion, even from just trace amounts of fuel or vapors. So how do you safely breach the tank? (Once you got it open with a large enough hole, you could then get in and clean it out. Thoroughly. Don't want fumes or fire while submerged.)

  • @MrChevelleMan

    Azendale we filled it with water and torched a hole while it was full. Not even a puff. Then when we had a big enough hole we to a weed burning flame thrower and scorched the insides before doing anything else.

  • @spectre2466

    @spectre2466

    Azendale one way would be to fill with water then cut with a torch. You could also flush with soapy water then refill with just water, it depends on how new or old the tank is. Propane has a shelf life of 10 years, after that it's not very flamable anymore but if it's a new tank or if your unsure the best thing to do would be to fill or flush with water and let it air dry for a couple of days before cutting. Personally I would rather buy the materials from a metal shop because you can get thicker metal. You still have to be a good welder to do any of this kind of work though, one small crack from a poor weld can make a sub leak like a screen door when submerged..

    It took 5000+ lbs to get our 500 gallon tank to sink. A sub that big would be impressive but unrealistic. You would have to come up with some way to transport it, which would prob be more difficult then the actual sub. But if you plan on making one let me know, i have several suggestions.

    engineer12v there are several of those made commercially and they would be a lot safer to use if it was made that way. Because it would be a lot easier to get out of.

    I think it is because it is a slideshow rather than true video. Never mind a lot more information is conveyed in a shorter amount of time in this format. Some people just insist on being difficult.
