As a clinician myself with ADHD, what I see with the fasting method is that it provides you with the structure we struggle with and this is why is successful. Another things I see is that she had access to accountability by interacting with the nutrition coach she mentioned early on and that worked with our human biology is to be connected with others and this nutrition coach gave her interventions that healed patterns of an eating disorder. Because, with ADHD most women will develop an eating disorder and therefore, I encourage that as you treat your ADHD you also treat the binge eating disorder. We must undo the damage that untreated ADHD can cause (depression, general anxiety, OCD, social anxiety, eating disorder…) and although is a painful journey, it is one of the most rewarding one.

So thankful I found you!!!! I am just now 44 this month and went on adhd meds yesterday. Strattera is my first try at meds. I am hyper focused on learning about adhd because my daughter is definitely ADHD (in the process of diagnosis) lights bulbs light up all day long while I research!!!!! Tears and pain and healing and forgiveness is all that has been happening. Now I am looking for a therapist I can afford.

Thank you for sharing!! I was diagnosed at 45, last year and also went on meds. It has made a huge difference for me. Of course, everyone will have their own story. Let me know how things are going with you and your daughter. Have a great day!

Thank you for this. Felt so validating to know that it’s not just me! Just got diagnosed with ADHD at 27 and it’s been life changing so far. I find myself wondering how this has effected my eating throughout my life as I am “obese” and have spent my life emotionally eating. Right now my emotional eating and addictive eating are at an all time high and I’m physically growing at a rapid rate. Always been an all or nothing person. Just quit cigarettes, alcohol and drugs 3 months ago so naturally my eating has gotten out of control. Anyway went on a tangent but thank you so much this was very validating to listen to and I will definitely be doing more research and mindset preparation because I feel the change is coming!! Peace ✌🏻

I constantly obsess about food, but don't really ever exactly feel hungry. I can lose weight by just not eating for a week. I obsess even more about food while fasting, but still never notice any physical symptoms of hunger. If I'm not fasting I have problems binge eating.

I have ADHD and I struggle with my weight. I usually get bored of this sort of conversations but i watch this one till the end (guess it was ADHD friendly😂 or maybe i'm on the hyperfocus mood 😂) THANK YOU! And I also thank Emily for sharing her experience with drugs. Actually my doctor prescribed me tha same drug but i haven't taken it yet.

When I first took ritalin I became painfully aware of my emotional eating. I had lost my appetite, but I still was emotionally hungry for food, especially unhealthy foods, and missed it so much.

I hyperfocused on calorie counting for a while, so it was easy for me then! However, the obsession has worn off and I don't count anymore, but the thought that I can eat anything I want but just not all the time works so well for me. I don't do intermittent fasting, but I'm trying to pay attention to how much I have eaten in the current day and yesterday and what I have planned for tomorrow and try to be cautious I don't eat too much overall. It sounds like common sense, but it really works and I never knew it could be like this.

I am on Vyvance but it doesn't help me much in the impulse control dept. :/ I get so overwhelmed trying to count calories or plan meals ...it feels impossible. :(

I'm freaking out that i can't control my weight and eating. Now I have fatty liver disease and i just know the GI doctor is going to say "follow this diet" which will adjust certainly call for too much routine and far too many unappealing foods. It's a recipe for failure.

I am a surgeon and my wife diagnosed me with adhd because i wasnt able to drive more than 1 hr without feeling very sleepy. The most happy i am is in surgery, only place i can stay super focused. Otherwise everything is boring and i have been battling with my weight. Although most surgeons around me are super fit , I just can't. Gym is so boring.

Has anyone ever done intermittent fasting and it led you wanting to binge when you could eat...? I had to stop bc it was not working for me...

I think that depends on which schedule you’re trying to do. You have to ease into it. 16:8; 18:6, … 20:4 And you need to make sure you’re eating enough protein to keep you satiated during the fast. Also seltzer water and gum helped me getting through the fasting hours ❤

I find it almost illogical that intermittent fastig is supposed to be the right choice for people with impulse control issues..? I tried it and it didn't work for me at all... At that point, I wasn't diagnosed, though. So maybe now that I take meds it might work. I don't know
