Yay, you found Malinda! She has *so* many excellent videos like this; personal favourites of mine include Problem, Bad Blood, You're Welcome, I Dreamed a Dream and Thriller. 😁 She's recently announced she won't be making any more Translate videos because she's focusing on making her own original music, but there's 10 years worth of content on the channel for you to explore!

I once used an online translator to put "Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?" into Spanish. I translated it back, just to check it, and got "Who lives in a fragmentation hand grenade under the sea?"

What a lot of people don't realize is many Disney movies are Hans Christian Anderson tales. Frozen is based off of Snow Queen. And in The Little Mermaid, Ariel sacrifices herself instead of killing Eric and turns into seafoam.

Welcome to a particularly warped rabbithole! Malinda recently posted an anniversary video on Google Translate Sings/Twisted Translations, explaining how it's so much harder now because the tech has improved, and also she wants to focus on her original music (which is also worth checking out btw). There are many many gems in the archive, however! I had a go at doing it with a Bob Dylan song, the trick is picking the right moment to stop.

First time I saw this I laughed 'til I cried! It's now one of my go-to tracks to cheer me up when I'm feeling like a right grumpy ol' 🐝itch. This and their version of "Be Prepared". Look forward to this reaction! 🤣

I highly recommend that you watch more Twisted Translation videos. They're so good! I subscribed because of this reaction because it was so good lol. I'll list some Twisted Translations videos that I recommend watching (some Disney): -Popular (Wicked) -Mother Knows Best (Tangled) -Havana (Camilla Cabello) -Thriller (Michael Jackson) -Senorita (Shawn Mendes) -No Tears Left To Cry (Ariana Grande) -We Don't Talk About Bruno (Encanto) These are the funniest in my opinion.

Malinda is amazing and she has some very hauntingly beautiful music that isn't just silly. But the silly ones are just amazing too. Google translate has become better, but if you run it through many different languages, it becomes more like a game of telephone.

I just remembered that JoYo has done a cover of a song that you’re going to want to listen to as soon as possible. The theme to the Mighty Morphing Power Rangers!! I can’t believe nobody else has suggested it to you, or they have and it was on a live stream and the hordes will never know.

Her patrons sometimes helped with the translations I know i submitted a few lines which were pretty cool (we used to note the order the languages it went through so it could be duplicated)

Yeah, they didn't just use French and English to get the language screwed up that badly. I would bet money that they ran it through something outside the Indo-European language family, _probably_ something east Asian, to turn "the sun caught in her raven hair" into "Japan took the color of my dark hair", for example. Translating between major language families, e.g., from an Indo-European language like English or French, to something that's very very different from that, like Korean or Japanese, is difficult even for a fully bilingual human translator, because the text often doesn't have enough information in it to fully construct the sentence in the other language. Asking a computer to do that, without any understanding of what any of it means, is exactly how you get results like this. Yes, people say this song is dark, and by Disney standards it is, but nineteenth-century European novels are much darker. If Disney ever did Frankenstein, the movie would need to have at least two weddings in it, and nobody would die, and the sequel would feature at least half a dozen children. I can't even imagine what they'd do with Hamlet. Nothing faithful to the original, that's certain.

So...what they do. :) Take the English lyrics. Translate them to French. Then from French into Spanish. Then from Spanish into Swahili. Then from that into Portuguese. Arabic. Estonian. ETC. Then, finally, back to English. What makes it so insane is that some languages have gender and others don't. And if the song is formatted where each line isn't a complete sentence...Google Translate doesn't have the full context. So it tries its best. And fails. Utterly. :)
