I think a train is a better analogy than a bus honestly. Trains have sleeping arrangements, can feed people, and provide bathroom and bathing facilities. Also they're usually more on time then buses any how 😂

We'll trains don't cross the ocean to the far away land Busses can be carried by ships although they are not that luxury as trains Also buses are cheaper and are mostly for Dense Cities and thats also a reason why busses sometimes don't arrive on time since you know *Traffic* But Busses can be easily be accessed by people Trains on the other hand is expensive and stuff especially if its for long distance travel they need to make the passengers comfortable and stuff like AirPlanes And yes there's trains on Dense Cities too but they're not Luxurious like for the Long Distance Trains take Japan and S. Korea for example they're train is quite plain No Beds No Food Just Passenger Carriages and don't forget the Control Room(or idk what's its called hehe) And also the other countries too Train Tracks are also a problem if you wanna cross to another land you need to build bridges or tunnels and that expensive as heck especially Tunnels need to be maintained daily to prevent any leaks. Idk what am saying right now but i like both

I’ve never been on either, but I like the seemingly more “serious” vibe of the ocean liner. It seems more relaxed despite being more scheduled, because people are more focused on the destination rather than rushing to take advantage of every single amenity and activity on the ship.

I'd love to travel on an ocean liner one day, which of course would have to be the Queen Mary 2 if it's the only one still in service. Of course logically and factually it only really makes sense to travel by plan nowadays, but I'd still love to travel on an ocean liner some day even just to see what it was like in the past.

Another difference that I see between these two types of ships is the care invested into their designs. Ocean liners were built to be symbolic of their nations and their achievements, similar to skyscrapers, while cruise ships are commercially-built spectacles of attraction and vacation. The way the two are advertised also differ, with television promotions for ocean liners feeling like it is made by someone who cares, and a commercial for a cruise ship feeling comparatively disingenuous, like it was produced out of obligation for a paycheck.

Cruise ships can also go through bad weather, but I guess their operations usually allow flexibility to go around it and mess up the planned itinerary, unlike liners. And yeah, QM2 might be faster than all or most cruise ships, I can't comment on that but it's a good point.

The QE2 seems to be used a lot like a cruise ship. It has itineraries that start in New York and end in New York. Sounds like a cruise to me.

I have a question for a video. I know this might sound stupid, but where is the water for a steam ships engines located? I started getting into steam by steam locomotives, they consume the water while travelling, and they are very thirsty. I'm pretty sure Oceanliners didn't have giant tanks for a week of continuous running. So how did they provide the boilers with water? Did they use cleaned sea water or was the water in the boilers just 100% reused somehow? And if yes, did they sometimes change it? Would love to see this explained in a video. Your channel is amazing btw

Since the mid 19th century, steamships have had onboard desalination equipment to maintain their fresh water supply. Early steamships used salt water in their boilers, which necessitated stopping the engines periodically along the voyage to clean the salt off the boilers.

Quite.... asides from which are the class and style connotations. The ocean liner is an Aston Martin DB6 compared to the pink stretch Lincoln Town Car with the boomerang thing stuck on the boot, moon roofs, neons and spinners. One contains proper, established people who live in the Kings Road near Brompton Cemetary - or Hereford - in an interesting business like weaving the gold braid for army and navy officers' uniforms which their family's been doing since 1734, or they're architects or professors of medieval and modern languages at Cambridge - and are charming, modest and amusing and have thrilling encounters to tell of if you ask, one was best mates with Stephen Fry at school, another's dad was in SOE during WW2 and worked with Roald Dahl - the other contains drunk chubby Essex girls wearing knock off "designer" gear and far too much makeup - or the winning branch of an estate agency chain out on the lash to "celebrate" "smashing" their yearly target, all of them in their skinny Next suits and overstyled, gelled hair and necking sparkling wine and tequila. There is just something so Hyacinth Bouquet about cruise ships - absolutely awful. Provincial opticians, scrap metal dealers, market traders, directors of small cardboard packaging manufacturers, owners of a couple of chicken shops and northern mining engineers all crammed into ugly rayon evening wear and minding their ps and qs round the Captain's table. They're always from places like Salford, Hull, Luton, Slough and Maidstone. Just ghastly. I would prefer to do a couple of weeks hard time than spend a day on one of those vulgar, disco lit gin palaces with their rip off spas, hideous art for sale everywhere and guided excursions with Ron and Linda from Telford treating themselveson their 40th wedding anniversary and having to fend off their overly enthusiastic invitations to some dreadful, tired show where the only thing more sparkly than the diamanté on the actors' costumes, are their teeth. Uuuuuuuugggghhhhh!!!!

With all the problems the airlines have been having, I think a couple of ocean liners should be reconsidered. If you have to get overseas quickly then fly, but if you don’t take your time and enjoy. Just saying🤷‍♀️. 🚢🚢

Another difference between Queen Mary 2 and cruise ships is that Cunard has a long standing agreement with the British Government. The construction costs of a Cunard liner are subsidized by the government and in exchange they are designed and built to military standards and can be converted from luxury liner to hospital or troup ships quickly and easily. Queen Mary 2, like Queen Elizabeth 2, the original Queens, and all the other Cunard liners are essentially ships of war disguised as luxury liners. Many years ago I took a cruise out of Miami to St. Barts, St. John, St. Thomas, and Puerto Plata. It was on a ship called Sea Breeze, at the time a quite old, smaller vessel. Only 700 passengers. She was an old liner, very different in appearance to the modern ships. Our last night out we hit a storm. Old Sea Breeze was a dignified old lady. Bit of a roll, but nothing serious. We were following one of the modern hotels. We could see the trouble from the deck of Sea Breeze. The computers were trying to stabilize the new one. Trouble is the computers have a delay to them, and that night the frequency of the waves matched the delay in the stabilization equipment. The computers made it worse! On arrival in Miami we were shocked to see a fleet of ambulances at the next dock to pick up the injured passengers and crew. Not even a sprained ankle on Sea Breeze. Something to be said for inherent stability.

Also, the distinct hight of an ocean liners hull profile vs. the low hull profile of a cruise ship cause we all know that having life boats that low on an ocean liner would do us no good, especially if they encounter a rouge wave like ss michelangelo

I say an ocean liner gets you from A to B with lots of ocean in between, a cruise ship from A to A with lots of drinking in between.
