How Installing Sense to Monitor Electricity Usage Saved $100/Month with Dedicated Circuit Monitoring
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Our electricity bill has been through the roof so we decided to try installing Sense Home Monitor to track what in our house is breaking the bank. After a few weeks of tracking our electricity usage we were surprised with what we found! We are saving over $100 a month with a simple change.
Use discount code GRAYHOUS for $25 off Sense - store.sense.com?aff=5
Plus, there is a brand new feature called Sense with Dedicated Circuit Monitoring that allows you to isolate one breaker or circuit to monitor independently of the rest of the house.

Thanks for the information, this is what i needed to hear and see.
Nice video. I am thinking of doing this to not only learn where my electricity is being used, but also with a view to installing solar. This should totally help determining what size set up is needed and things such as minimum inverter size to cover the power when it's at it's peak.
Ultimately wouldn't you want a monitor on EACH breaker switch?
Thanks for this video! I trust you as much as I trust your eyes not to blink.
Great video. Thanks. I have a very similar setup from a panel perspective as you do in that it is recessed with drywall around it. I was wondering how you connected the antenna relative to inside or outside of the panel and just what it looks like? Thanks!

That was a bit confusing when I read the instructions. There aren’t too many breaker panels that have exposed walls in Houston. I started by drilling a hole in the front of the panel to mount the antenna through and the signal was still weak. Once I noticed the signal on my phone was horrible too I added a WiFi extender in the garage and realized I could leave the antenna of the Sense Monitor in the wall attached directly to the Sense orange box and bypassing the antenna extension cable.

It would have been nice if you showed this process from beginning to end. Thanks.
I install these along with solar power. Sometimes they can really help identify stuff like your dehumidifier. I think it's a worth while investment, but it's not going to revolutionize your house. With the extra solar CTs you can see your production vs usage, which is pretty nice. The Sense uses 'machine learning' (Sense's words) to determine what a device is. It gets better over time and they are updating it, but it's still not 100%. I'm no expert, but I think it senses the frequency waves of devices and compares it to other people's Sense data.

Thanks for sharing and I’m glad you found it useful!
I also live in Houston and we started the same way (with a dehumidifier) eventually we realized the cost/reward was not there and unplugged the thing. Saved us a chunk of money.

@@GrayHouseStudio Insulate the garage. Make it nice and airtight. Slap in a high effeciency mini split, does both heating and cooling. Fujitsu makes a 9k btu unit that does 33 seer. Absolutely fabulous, like 3x as effecient as a normal AC.
How about 4000kwh a month at 900-1000 a month cost and only wife and I live in this 3000sq ft home. Nothing special is on and AC/heating use is conservative. I’m thinking something is really wrong
Man Brent definitely looking into this. I booted Gexa light company my bill for the last three months came in at 600 plus. Thanks for the vid. My neighbor is an electrician so I’m getting him. Great video. Whats the classic ride project you are working on? Got a 1980 El Camino I got going on right now.

Oh wow! $600 puts things into perspective! I’m glad you found it helpful. The car is a 78 VW bus. We have another video you should check out that shows when we bought the bus. I’m thinking about making it electric.

At the same time I do want to keep it simple it belonged to my father I purchased it from him. I’ll check out the video Brent. Goose here on the Spring side.

the dedicated line, can I use my solar clamps for that?

From what I can tell the clamps are the same. You might want to check by downloading the second sensor manual.

I have a sub-panel in addition to the main power panel. Can I add the extra 240V breaker to the sub-panel and have everything still work?
Where do I get one and how do I get the discount

I liked your video! stumbled upon it looking at Sense and how I could split one unit between my home and garage. if your outages weren’t LONG, perhaps a medium APC back up would retain the eco settings for the dehumidifier? it’s been awhile - how did you solve the usage?
I liked the I’m going to die look when turning it on,Smoke test

There is a joke about electrical engineers seeing smoke and being happy that “it almost worked” instead of being mad that it didn’t work.
I wouldn't mind getting this for my home just $299 is kinda of crazy
Saw you subscribe to my youtubes, so here I am lol Would love to see follow up on this once you get some data under your belt.

Hi! I’ve enjoyed your videos. My wife and I are starting work building our own house. Your videos have been really helpful. We appreciate your approach and desire to build quality affordable houses.
$100 per month? How much is your electricity price? Glad you found what you found. 😅
650W is very high for a dehumidifier, that's like having an electric heater on all day. Must be stuck on laundry mode. Maybe a smaller 200-300W device is a good compromise, it might even keep the right humidity setting after a blackout.

I'm watching my 2k sqft dehumidifier run at 140W , 650W is more than my 1HP pool pump :')
You have a lot more going on than that little humidifier unless that thing is shorting out. My house is 3300 sq ft under roof. 3 big bedrooms, 2 big bathrooms 2 whirlpool refrigerators, one whirlpool freezer and one of those water coolers that hold a 5 gallon jug. whirlpool Washing machine and whirlpool gas dryer. attached 2 car garage and detached 2 car garage. My average daily usage is 10kwh. Pilipino wife and mother-in-law both home cooking cleaning gardening everyday. They have rice cookers, hot air cookers, toasters and crock pots going almost everyday. Yours is 81kwh.
I'm going to get one of these, for the soul reason my nagging wife is driving me crazy complaining.

Be glad its 16 cents per kwh, not 21.2 like mine. Pricey just the same.
If you have an electric water heater get a Rheem hybrid water heater. You’ll save money and you can make a video on how they work.

@@GrayHouseStudio hmm I figured it was electric with that high of bill. Just stick with gas.
There are roughly 30.4 days in a month your bill says you used 2,448kwh used in total 2,248/30.4= 80.52 That would mean you'd have to be using 80.52kwh a day thats 3.33 kilowatts every 60 minutes thats roughly equivalent to running a mid sized 26,000 btu ac unit continuously how in the everloving fuck

I was a little disappointed because I think you skipped showing a step (circuit breaker) from what I've been reading. I just don't know how it can possible get granular enough to tell you about individual device usage when a circuit can have many devices on each circuit.
Let's see that bay window....I'm an electrician.
Save yourself some money by opting out of your smart meter, and also enjoy the health benefits.Thank me later.

You can opt out of the smart meter? Our bill went from $40 per month to $160 per month after our electric company installed that thing. I would love to know how to opt out of it if that's possible.
