I’m a tile contractor and i do new shower pans all the time. This method works but it’s so old school and no matter how good you fold those corners the base of the tile wall always bows out. I have been using pre sloped and pre waterproofed pans made from high density foam. The brand I use most is Schluter. Still have to do some waterproofing once pan is secured but it’s tile ready.

Save some money and float the pan then use schluter sheet membrane for waterproofing . Stronger then foam pan and you don’t get the build up of a vinyl liner . You can still use foam wall board or sheet membrane over drywall

You needed to put a morter/sand mixture before you put your liner down and slope it towards the drain so that the water will move to the drain. that's really important, if not the water's not going to drain properly. Note: I was wrong on the mixture being put down BEFORE the liner. I was wrong. I helped put my shower floor in and forgot in what order we did it. My apologies!

Negative slope can lead to a condensating liner, most will think its leaking but its just holding water and due to separate temperatures the liner sweats like a glass of ice water on a hot day. Where im at a 24hr leak test is mandatory and the code inspector guy will pull the drain to test its drainage. If no water in pan when he arrives you fail if pan holds water after drain okug is renoved you fail. Never use silicone. The drain flange is made to seal warertight with only the liner as the gasket. Plus the way the drain is made if the tile fails and water gets under the tile the drains are made to weep the tiniest amount of water back down the drain. Using silicone fills in the depressions that would create this weep drain.......this guy should of called a pro

Don't listen to these people, this will work for about 10 yrs give or take a few. The only legit criticism ive seen is the sloping for proper drainage, and my 2 cents would be much more silicone around the drain, 6-8" of the entire outer radius. However, you could've got 2 birds with 1 foam covering the entire cement floor. Regardless, doing it yourself is always better than hiring out, even if you get it wrong the first time.

If you do an overnight water test filled up to curb level as you should, it will immediately teach you how you need to fold & glue corners better. I promise that leaks. I had a glass contractor screw into the curb wich created a small leak that eventully made the 2x4's swell up. As a result a grout joint cracked and a tile popped causing more water to infultrate. Since then I started to make my curbs out of concrete. If you demo a really old shower it will have concrete curbs and floaed concrete walls.

I would recommend not using a wood curb. Instead pour/ form a concrete or Sand/ concrete mix form w/ a single piece of #3 pencil rebar. For those anal retentive clients, epoxy coat the rebar prior to placing in the pour/ mix and dowel the ends into the ends of the framing . The pan material is fold up into the middle of the form and cut about 3/4" below the top of the pour." Your method now will require to apply durrock on the sides and top of the curb and now srewing durrock screws thru your pan material. Even applying a waterproof coating, its not 100% waterproof. They sometimes fail over time.

Looks good but test it to make sure with a blow up ball. I like how you put the dog ears by the curb and the pre-fab corners are more than needed for a rectangle shower but whatever. The corners are used when you have to cut an inside corner and that’s when I try to get them to sluder the shower and then the liability is on the tile guy.😀

It won't leak but it also won't drain properly. On top of a concrete subfloor, you'll be alright. Just don't do this on any other substrate.

Don’t use silicone. Use butyl water block under membrane at drain ring. This is proven on water proofing systems. Fold corners, no,no,no cuts

Pan liner glue is contact cement, you dont do it wet, you have to wait for it to dry out first and get tacky before you push it together. RIP shower pan.

No pre-slope and that’s a hell of a lot of buildup for that curb corner, Even if it leaks, it’s not like it’s gonna destroy the cement floor

Liner adhesive works best for around the drain..... also a pre-float would've been ideal.. that way if water does get to the liner it drains instead of just sitting there.. overkill is underrated

I always pour a concrete curb in 2 stages, after the slope float and primary curb pour, install liner on slope float, curb and run liner all the way to the lid

That's Old School, it's works though. I would've went with sealed system though, not a water in water out system. Those weep holes will clog. waterproof boards on the walls then dry pack for shower pan and an flowfx drain . Then waterproof sheet membrane and seam tape on shower pan for waterproofing. Or a prefabbed shower pan.Lot less work.

The problem is way will sit in the bottom of the pan causing mold and odor. The proper way to do this would have been to do a pre-slope so the water that makes its way to the pan liner slopes towards the drain.

Oh our house, we found out that original builder or owner did not do this. Nothing was under tile. But a massive hole where drain was. So whatever didn’t drain snd spilled over when into the wall and our room. It’s been a fun redo, sarcasm. We ended up putting a tub in instead. Obviously we fixed everything first. But it was a pain
