Fascinating. How did painters in the past get by before the introduction of kitchen rolls? I suppose from the 1600s onwards painters in Europe could use old newspaper, however modern paper towels are certainly a blessing to oil painting.

Interesting! Would you apply the medium the same way if you were using Liquin or another medium?

Yes, but don't use liquin. All you need is linseed oil and a little strand oil. Mediums mixed by the manufacturer have driers and who knows what else... keep your painting chemistry simple. If you are relying on liquin to speed up the drying time, you are misunderstanding how to use oil paint.
