How I Turned A 4 Post Lift Into A 2 Post Lift With A Ranger QuickJack

BendPak sponsored this video and sent me a brand new Ranger QuickJack BL-5000SLX so I could turn my four post HD-9 lift into something with the functionality of a two post lift.
NOTE I mentioned that the Quickjack can lift 21". That is only with the 4" blocks attached. The Quickjack by itself can lift a maximum of 17".

I'm doing the same thing with my setup, only started first with the quickjacks and just ordered the 4 post lift. I am already thinking about modifying the lift to put rails on the outside to hold onto the quickjacks so I don't have to move them around as much, just flip them on their side and stow them on custom rails outside the ramps on each side.

As a simpler alternative, I've heard of people laying down a few 2x8 boards bridging between the runways and resting on the spots where the jack tray normally sits. Then you can just rest the Quickjack on top of those between the runways. My 4 post is coming in a few weeks and I'm planning to try this.

not entirely sure about that lifting method... I would have concerns the weight of those quick lifts transferring weight to the center of the 4 corner posts. The weak spot is applying weight to the center of the lift. The second issue would be the 4 post lift not bolted. the weight would pull those 4 posts inward with those quick jack lifts. 4 tires keep weight on outside edge, center lifts would do the opposite. your post on left there shows light reflection changes with quick jack lift, weight there is stressing four post lift.

I have considered this setup, but Bendpak makes specific recommendations for weight distribution on the runways. The quickjack puts all of the vehicle weight in the middle third. For a light car you might get away with it, but for a 4500# vehicle, you might be bordering on structural failure of the runways. You can find the recommendations here (page 11) www.bendpak.com/Rolling-Bridge-Jacks-Manual-5900004-BendPak.pdf

*you aren't supposed to lift it without a load on past the first lock.it's in your instruction manual, and actualy BendPak purposely under rates those quick jacks so they would still probably lift your dually, for future reference. just like the 7000 pound one i ordered is capable of lifting and supporting over 18000 pounds but it's not intended to support that weight normally*

Chris N I've worked in automotive electronics since 1994, will be 25 years this summer. I've worked in both the OEM & aftermarket side and honestly, My biggest concern is the wiring for the cigarette lighter which is typically 16 gauge at best. I've seen 18-20 gauge wire used for a cigarette lighter as well. Let's say the vehicle has a 5' length of 16 gauge from a battery or power distribution to the cigarette lighter. That's good for about 30 amps max. The cigarette lighter is usually fuses with a 10-15 amp fuse, sometimes a 20 amp. Using a higher amperage fuse will melt the wiring if you use a higher amperage fuse. There's nothing wrong with using your lawn mower battery. Especially going directly to the battery. That's actually ideal.

Just remember, depending how you have the orientation of the quick-jack(s) , the car will move forward or rearward as it goes up; about 15 inches.

Not smart. The load capacity of a 4 post is determined by where the load is placed on the ramps. Your car loads the ramps at the wheels, which are closer to the posts. As the load moves toward the center of the ramps, the capacity drastically decreases. The scissor lift puts a significant amount of weight at the center of the ramps.
