How I Teach the L Sound Speech Therapy

How to teach the L sound step 1.
I love teaching speech sounds and L is no different.
It's a bit trickier as you need to get your tongue all the way up the top and to the front but using a mirror makes this really easy.
Children can pick this up quite easily although for some little ones it takes a little longer.

Ok but the way I was taught was to mouth your lips like a broad smile, then the tongue naturally touches the top. The most annoying acceptable thing I’ve noticed that’s crept into Australian speech is the use of the lips to pronounce L, which makes the L sound like a W. The lips must not be involved so a broad smile is the go.

I’m thankful for this video. Our first child had the proper L and R sounds by age 3 I think - it was super early - and so my husband and I have naturally been hounding a bit (in a kind and gentle way of course) on our second child to get it. But to know the norm is age 3.5 and he just turned three is good to know. And to know the clusters don’t necessarily come until much later. So for now I’ll accept his “Pwease Mom” (it’s super cute anyways 😝). We tried the spoon and mirror and it’ll be a fun activity we’ll revisit from time to time. Thank you!

Hi Britney, Your little ones are picking up the sounds at a faster rate it seems. The speech sound changes are super cute and many parents find them adorable. Going well on time with those sounds, Happy to help. 🙌❤
