Thanks for covering how the tungsten stock looks shot in daylight, that was super helpful to see how simply you corrected it. Great shots and use of the super8 too.

thank you dude! yeah, tungsten film stands no chance against a flat profile and some color correcting :) - makes you think about all the color correcting done to movies these days shot on film...

Nice tips! I recently shot a short film entirely on super 8 and can add some additional pointers. If you're shooting for a project, I strongly recommend using a tap measure for focus, because the old reflex viewfinders aren't as accurate as you'd hope so the zoom in and focus isn't always reliable (I learnt the hard way), but you can always trust the measurements on the lens. If you're filming in bright day light and the lens is stopped down, this shouldn't be an issue, but any low light situations is a must (or if you're good at eyeing off distances). Also, in my case, if you plan to shoot with sound be prepared for how loud the camera is while running. Although they no longer make super 8 sound cartridges, from my experience those old super 8 sound cameras run far quieter than regular ones if you're still looking to buy, although I wouldn't let that deter you, just buy whatever you can get - functionality is all pretty similar. If anyone is interested in checking out my film, its called The Abduction of Nancy Watkins, a true crime doc meets 50s/60s scifi, shot entirely on Kodaks black and white stock! kzread.info/dash/bejne/epdqyKlsmNC3qNo.html

Thanks for this video sir!! I am very interested in purchasing a super 8 camera soon! I saw this model online. I wanna be able to create memories in a more movie/stylish way not just with an iPhone lense lmao. Out of all the super 8 cameras, this looks pretty straightforward and less complicated compared the other expensive Canon cameras

From memory the slot on the top of the camera swings in a tungsten filter for when a movie light is attached. You can use a piece of an old credit card to activate it.

Really nice work, on the shoot, your subjects and the post. Only thing I might do different is not turn up highlights so much and rather turn up mids, high mids and low mids and bring shadows down same way you are doing but keep upper part of the curve in the mid, because if you turn up upper portion, you start to lose actual highlights and the glitter and shimmer. So sometimes even on digital, when you turn down your highlights, you are actually revealing the actual whites, that were otherwise hidden in bright light over the highs.

This might be a dumb question to ask but let’s say if you sent your super 8 film off to a lab without asking for a flat scans. Would the colors still come out flat anyways or would they do the colors themself or will the colors already be baked into the film without requesting a flat scan ?

The handle is made of an early plastic called bakelite (invented in 1907!) and can crumble or separate from the top of the camera like my Bauer C2 Super did. I like the camera and its design, but to put all that metal and glass on a plastic handle and one that holds the batteries was not the wisest choice.

I have no idea why you bought the cheapest super8 money can buy for this video. A 50yr old super8 camera is "soooo complicated" that you can't even figure it out? In comparison to today's digital cameras? The most complicated cameras have timelapse settings, single frame shooting, high frame rate shooting, and a bulb exposure mode. That's it. Second - you don't want to use the internal 85B filter because they are made of plastic, and in the years since your (any) super8 camera has been made it has probably deteriorated. It's far better to use a new, glass 85B filter.
