    Hey Christian, love the set up vid, thanks for sharing. I’m very surprised that after that much lead it’s only weighing in at 8.5 oz! I swear, similar to ALW, you’d be thinking you’re swinging Thor’s hammer! I mod my TKO-CX that was stock at 7.7 with 12 grams lead, electrical tape over the edge guard, a Hesacore small elongated grip and an over grip and am at 8.5 oz as well!

    I smooth out my lead with the side of a Sharpie or other type Pen. Also tape over the lead. Tungsten is 3X as expensive.That must be light lead since it only brings the total weight to 8.5 with how much length you put on. Great to see ya at the Orange County Open this weekend.

    Lead increases the twistweight of a paddle, thus decreasing how much it twist in your hand when impacted by the ball. Thus, paddle becomes more stable and it opens up the sweetspot.

    Try using the half a a gram per inch of tungsten weight instead. I personally review a lot of paddles and find that tungsten often yields a better feel off the face as its denser and stiffer leading to a pretty different resonant frequency of the tape vs lead which I think creates a much more tactile satisfying feel.

    3:19 FALSE - It's physically impossible to decrease swing weight by adding weight anywhere, ever. You can only lower your balance point, making the paddle feel less head-heavy. 3:40 Every paddle scholar knows adding weight further from the handle increases swing weight which improves power (i.e. "plow-through"),at the cost of reduced hand speed.

    I prefer Tungsten, but one isn't better than the other assuming you're handling the lead safely. Lead tape absorbs vibrations better than tungsten. Also you have more customization options with lead where you can apply strips on top of each other. Tungsten doesn't sit as well on the paddle and the balance feels off when you try to apply more than one strip on top of another.

  • @MegaHowtoMan

    Lead widens the sweet spot and reduces vibration. But too much slows your reaction time.

  • @lucasg4170

    @lucasg4170

    Your reaction time stays the same. Your movement speed is what slows.

  • @LowDinksHijinxPickleball

    @LowDinksHijinxPickleball

    More specifically it increases the twist weight (proportionally with distance from central axis of rotation, i.e. hotdog-style centerline), which increases the stability due to creating more resistance to twisting when contacting balls off-center. It CAN also make a sweeter sweet spot, but that is a more complex interplay between the paddle shape, construction, and materials and adding weight to the sides may not improve your paddles sweet spot at all. It will always increase it's stability though.

  • @LowDinksHijinxPickleball

    @LowDinksHijinxPickleball

    13 күн бұрын

    Adding weight further from the base (i.e. on the top of the head) increases swing weight more than twist weight, and that swing weight is what slows down your hand speed. Higher twist weight won't your hand speed as much, relatively speaking. That's why adding weight lower on the paddle and further out to the sides is better, as it maximizes twist weight while keeping swing weight manageable.

    I would think that with the 100 paddles he has behind him that the cost per paddle would be why. Lead is like 20 cents a paddle and tungsten would be $10 per paddle since the smallest roll of tungsten is about $25 and with how much he puts on would be about half the roll. Just wash your hands afterwards and try not to pick your eye boogers when applying the lead tape hahaha, only a joke but really, don’t do it.
