For me lack of universal healthcare, unaffordable advanced education and an alarmingly unhealthy political climate would be enough reasons not to move to the USA. It just seems like it's a place where working hard does not pay off and it's just designed for the rich to get richer, in the long run anyway.

Yes; "people are just, normal". Agreed, but that's only until something happens. And what people outside the US notice is that 'something happens' a lot LOT more often in the US than it does in other countries.

You're not wrong, but to be fair, the US is also one of the biggest countries in the world too, so it's not always necessarily an apples-to-apples comparison. You wouldn't expect the news from New York or LA to be the same as a rural town with only 30k people, either. I mean, the video is discussing both the US and Ireland for example. The US has over 66x more people than Ireland does. So what would it look like if you took the things you hear about in Ireland...now increase it 600-700%. It'd be a different conversation.

I just binged a few of these videos and this guy is by far the best one. He hasn't come to Europe and just expected it to be America. He hasn't said "wrong side of the road", or that there's a lack of choice and we all talk weird and the food is bland. He's integrated really well and I hope he's having a great time in Ireland. Would gladly go for a beer with this lad.

The US is for work only or spend money at some place. Do you know how much money are lost if you walk? A LOT. See: Car industry loses. Gas industry loses. Car repair industry loses. Health industry loses. You do not spend money for anything except shoes. Plus ifyou have a bench on your way, it is disaster for economy. So, only shoes industry gains. If you do not know why something is like this or that in the US, think who loses, who gains. Nothing is for you, but everything is about you.

Look at this. If you offer people in the US really something good for them, you really want to help them, your client is not only number for you, they are usually confused in the beginning. Like good doctor. For example doctors from other countries want to continue the same logic as in home country in the US. It is completely ubeleivelable in the US. It is some miracle. You are like god....maybe a little bit nuts. :) So, usually you have money and people like you but you cannot get a similar service from others.. In fact, in the US, it is expected that you get money pretty easy and spend it easy. If you earn money honest and difficult you cannot spend it easy. In fact, the US is good for superficial people. For example German people are not so, Japanese not,....but most of world people are so. That is reason that the US is good for a lot of people.

About the comment on space constraints, that most Americans would find that spaces in Ireland are small, I had the same experience speaking to some American tourists in Italy. I joined a small tour group for the Uffizi museum tour in Florence and the American in my group was commenting that the lift is really small; why can't the museum get a bigger lift. The trouble is that most ancient cities would suffer from a lack of space because the old buildings are smaller. Unless you knock down everything and rebuild, the locals have to make the best out of the old buildings. Just sharing some experience I had 🙂

i lived as a student at UTK, Knoxville, Tennessee from 1990 to 1994 and i loved the experience. growing up in a kampung in malaysia, i loved the small town feel of Knoxville and the pastoral vibe of the areas surrounding the city that went well with my preference. the people were mostly friendly (and corny LOL) and the climate wasn't extreme. but if i were in New York City, i'd definitely have a different view. i'd go back to Knoxville given the chance.

Best decision I ever made was moving from New York to Shanghai. China has been amazing to me

If they don’t have any savings then discretionary spending is out of the question and the knock on effect pushes more people into poverty. Crime has dropped dramatically in the US since the 90s (Google it). Amazing how little Americans know about their own country.

I've found that cars have certainly got bigger over the last 50 years. Trouble is that new cars can be built more quickly than new large multi-storey car park buildings, many of which were built with smaller cars on the road in mind at the time, There's definitely a case therefore for most older car parks to re-paint the lines to make the parking bays bigger. But do they do it? Rarely - presumably, that would mean less cars to make money from.

It's more the US system why we don't want to live in the US.

And when I drive I like to drive on properly maintained roads. I don't want to pay loads of money for healthcare and not receive any when I need it. I don't want a generally poor educational system. Few Americans work more than 40 hours per week and generally have a much higher standard of living than almost any other country- and we do it all by not allowing too much government intrusion into our lives. The US isn’t a nanny state - if you want to turn over a large portion of your earnings to your government and have it take care of you from cradle to grave with few opportunities for upward mobility then yeah - America isn’t for you.

It’s good he has an open mind and such a perspective. About the size and spacing in cities, it all has to do with cars, which cities and parts of cities were built before cars, and which were built after everyone started moving around in cars. In the States, the few cities or city centers that were built before cars were torn down when urban planning was put into the hands of the motor industry. That’s what they did with the old historic center of LA, and when they tried to do the same in San Francisco, the people rose up and said No. The suburbs are also a consequence of that policy.

There are so many people struggling to make ends meet, homeless, bad infrastructure, no social security, bad healthcare system. I love americans, but i dont want to see hardworking people being slaves from the American system. It is a beautiful country, nature is so beautiful, but i dont want to see hardworking people struggling.

Every country has its peculiarities, good ones, bad ones and just "different" ones neither better nor worse. But you only really recognize them more clearly when you look at your country from the outside, i.e. by spending a longer time abroad.

It's the system, not so much the people that is the problem on why so many don't see the US as that appealing, at least from other modern countries, but the system reflects on the people as they have the power to change the system. Personally, there are countless issues I see with the US that are not appealing, polarised politics, two party system that's first past the post, for profit health care system, poor workers rights by modern standards, lack of paid holidays, lower food standards and countless other social programs, the list can go on and on, on why the US seems unappealing to many from the outside, especially from modern countries that take for granted a lot of the social benefits and protections they have. So it's not really about the people as such, the system they live in is the problem, also there are safety issues, stats show that the US is far less safe compared to other countries and when you look at the things that really matter in life, quality of life, it's more or less dominated by European countries with a few outside of Europe in the top 10, which I think is Canada, Australia and Japan. Also, let's not forget about the patriotism and flag waving, it's very cult like in the US which isn't normal in other modern countries, in fact, it's more normal in systems like China, Russia and even the Nazis, basically, systems that want to condition the mindset of people to think a certain way whiles making sure they stay ignorance, I suspect that's done so the system can screw over the citizens far more, and Americans do get screwed over far more compared to other modern countries, also, the pledge of allegiance, that's just creepy, the idea of trying to condition kids at such a young age is a real clear indication of indoctrination, with the aim of making it's citizens think they are the best, no question and to not question the system to make it better, which allows the system to say to it's citizens to shut up and be grateful you've got it the best, it's all lies to fool the people with the aim of screwing them over, after all, if most Americans actually knew of the benefits citizens get in other modern countries, I suspect there would be more demand for change, but fortunately for the elites in the US, most Americans are clueless about the outside world and that's how they want to keep it so they can keep taking advantage of the American people, from the outside it's so easy to see.

Have you been in China or Russia? You make claims that seem to be western assumptions rather than fact. Chinese have become the most affluent and first country to eliminate poverty, the most modern cities and services in the world. Russia is far more democratic, with very high quality of life even if wages are generally lower, but so are costs. Russia is far easier to start a business or own a home than in the west, most people over 20 own their home, have no debt and have college degrees at a much higher rate then the west. Access to culture is far better than Europe and the US has almost no access to culture, taxes are low..employees to not pay taxes, their employers pay so there are no deductions. The cities are much safer than Europe or US, and more democratic with many different parties. The US has two parties owned by corporations and neither party has passed any law in decades that primarily benefit the people instead of corporations. The most expensive and mediocre health care anywhere in the world. Go visit modern Russia or China and you will be amazed, also how much better informed they are since they do not have the massive government aligned propaganda system the US has where the people know almost nothing about the world that is true.

I am a naturalized American and I used to live in NYC but now lives just north of the City. Even though I don’t witness shootings myself, I still hear about it happening in the country on the news, sometimes daily, and quite a number of times in places that I used to frequent. At the same time, there are countries that have comparable or even bigger population than the US, but you don't hear shootings happening there almost every day. EU is not a country but that's another political entity where you also don't hear shootings all the time.

And Germany is rising? All the western countries are declining because they all are dominated by the Empire of Lies. German industry is shrinking or moving to US or China, the auto industry is almost bankrupt since the largest customer, China is now its largest competitors with more advanced products so German brands have lost that essential market because China is rapidly moving to EV and German brands have poor options that are far behind in tech and pricing. The US and Japanese brand (except Tesla) are collapsing also. Has Germany ever has as incompetent leaders as now, not in my memory. No one expects honest or effective leaders in the US but Germany was expected to be smarter but apparently not.

Driving "stick," or manual transmission - in the US now, unless you are buying a high-end sports car, you are likely going to have to pay more to special order a manual transmission - most of the vehicles just don't come with it anymore. With all the fuel savings software, it requires computer control of transmission to get those full benefits, too......I am surprised to hear it's so popular in Ireland....

And it depends on which region you are talking about. New England for example is highly educated, has low gun violence, and is safe and stable. We have the best public education system in the country, a low poverty rate, and low unemployment and Homelessness. Boston, which is the hub of the region, is a safe and beautiful world class city.

I’m a city person and for that reason I wouldn’t want to live in the U.S. The cities have sure deteriorated in recent times, at least from my experience. I’m sure suburban living is much as it used to be but that lifestyle is not for me and that’s why I much prefer Europe.

I would not be worried to live in USA because of shootings or protests (well, maybe a little), but because of feeling of social unsafeness. Having medical insurance, which does or maybe does not insure you and possibility of being fired from your job on the spot is just not for me. I would be just nervous wreck after a year or so.

The primary fear for every American is getting sick because insurance that you might pay 1/4th your salary often requires you you to pay the first $5000 or they can deny coverage for any reason. Health care is far more expensive than anywhere else in the world and is only in the middle of all countries in quality and results. The US has the highest rate of hospital induced infections. It is a very divided and angry country that has a thousand factions and each hates and refuses to accept the other 999 factions. It is also surely the most corrupt country on earth. It is essential to bribe congress to get anything done, the only country where it is legal and in fact essential to bribe government to pass any law so wealthy and domestic or foreign corporations get all their demands and no laws that benefit the people are even possible since the 1970s when corporations took back control of government. The only thing mere humans get is more debt and more restrictive laws as quality of life has declined dramatically and debt exploded. Many countries have overtaken the US in quality of life and personal and economic security. More Americans leave to live in other countries each year since 2008 than legal immigrants arrive, so to increase voters and lower wages the government is allowing uncontrolled borders in the south where 20-30 million mostly young men have come in with no id and given free flights to any city they want to go, and $2200 a month when retirees who aid into Social Security every month all their working lives average $1600 a month. They will be given voting rights to make the Democrat party permanent government which will continue the policy of permanent war. The US has invaded other countries 202 times since 1950 and killed 27,000,000 people and not one of them did any harm to the US. This is not even up for debate, the people have no say in all these wars for profit.

News usually brings not daily life, but big events. The US is a huge country with the largest economy. So of course it is always on the news. Why I myself would not consider living in the US has to do with other things. Expanding suburbs, poor infrastructure,the poor public transportation and having to do everything by car. The bad Work Life balance where you live to work. Or the extremely expensive health care. The huge supermarkets where you can buy 50 kinds of chips, but hardly any quality food. If I were young again and would like to make a career in science or IT, I would probably still think about living there for 10 years or so. That is the positive side of the USA. Lots of startups, top universities, lots of opportunities to develop yourself. Also, the Americans I know are super friendly like this gentleman who gives his comment. I have been to the USA a few times for work. So I am not really talking from my own experiences and I can't really judge myself. But from serious youtube channels of people who have left the US and live in Europe. Channels like "Not just Bikes" or "David Wen" that are very interesting and give you a good view about the Pros and Cons. Actually, I originally follow these channels not for curiosity about life in the USA, but because I wanted to know more or how expats like it in certain countries. I live abroad myself for a long time and it is interesting to see how others reflect. I see my country of origin now also different then when I was living there. But still in a few years I want to do some travelling in that big country for a longer time.

good observation on Ireland being so homogenous. I am Irish and have lived in Asia for he past 16 years. I find Ireland to be an echo chamber. Without speaking to someone I can predict 95% of their views on anything. The political parties and media and overwhelmingly centrist and little separates them. Oh and crack is spelt "craic". It's rare for me to meet an American anywhere in the world that doesn't want to tell my about their Irish heritage when I tell them I'm Irish. I don't find it annoying, it's quite endearing. I also find most Americans to be very polite, a little loud certainly, but also polite. I like Ryan, he has a great attitude and I'm sure he find it easy enough to integrate with Irish people.

Why you don't see an F-Series truck beyond the Americas. It would take up too much room.

The USA is actually not bad, the thing is that it is more open about its problems than other countries. Take for example racism, there are far more racist countries/populations, but they don't discuss it openly. USA on the other hand communicates it through media for all the world to see.

Im in the UK, my family the US. The obvious points, ones like healthcare and firearms always come up and I agree, the situation is bad. One of my problems with the US is how everyone reffers to themselves as American since America is a continent not a country, so it seems that, either US citizens dont know the country they are from, or they believe they are the only ones deserving of the title American in the whole of America or the Americas (North and South).

I suppose it depends upon your level of awareness. I grew up in the sixties annoyed by American ignorance and arrogance. Later when I became more aware of its political machinations around the globe (the Vietnam War, Reagan's Central American death squads, the overthrow of Salvador Allende, ad nauseam) I became disgusted and have remained so.

America justifiably or not receives more attention from the international media than any other country and by a wide margin. This leads to all kinds of unfair assumptions, assertions, stereotypes, and impressions of what is a large and diverse nation. America is also a particularly foreign country, especially to those who understand it best because they speak the same language as Americans, for example, the British. We assume that Americans think and act like us, but they don't and why should they? Some parts of America know little else but crime, many other parts hardly experience any at all, not even a piece of carelessly dropped litter. Some Americans can't finish a sentence without cursing others would rather die than be caught doing so. It really is difficult to generalize other than to say that Americans are all foreigners from a different part of the world they are not Brits with strange accents. Therefore you have to take the time to understand them, just like one does when visiting any other country collectively and individually. Do you still blame Germans for Hitler, or the Frogs for Napoleon? I hope not. Americans are allowed to own firearms, so what is your problem, are you jealous? Maybe, if the Germans had guns there would have been no 3rd Reich, therefore no Hitler, and if the Russians had them there would have been no Russian Revolution and therefore no Stalin? If the Jews had them there would not have been The Holocaust. The Swiss have them and managed to stay out of all wars for hundreds of years. Did you ever think of that? IMO, if not for the 2nd Amendment America may have turned into a very nasty place indeed by now, far worse than it is, or is so often claimed to be. The 2nd amendment was not introduced to help facilitate hunting, or so Americans could defend themselves from criminals. It was specifically introduced to protect American citizens from their own government abusing or removing their constitutional rights. This was precisely to avoid what happened to the Jews, Germans, Russians, Chinese, Cubans, French, Cambodians, or Vietnamese and may also happen to YOU at any time.

It is the most corrupt government on earth...no place else is it the norm for corporations to bribe congress and no law is passed without that corruption. So only the very wealthy and a few corporations get legislation passed. No law or programs has been passed in 30 years that primarily helped the people. The US is the most war like country on earth with 203 invasions of other countries that did nothing to the US since 1950 and murdered 27,000,000 people who did nothing to the US. The US coup in Ukraine installed a truly corrupt regime filled with genuine Nazis that has split the world into two factions where the opposing faction is much larger in population and with growing economies while Europe, UK, Canada and Australia are all declining. All you have left to support your case of western superiority is media aligned with the US government pumping out nonsense in propaganda. That gave rise to the largest trade pact in history and 40 additional countries waiting to be approved, none of which are going to use the US dollar as reserve currency. Most of the world is no longer going to deal with the US or its vassals in Europe where there is not a single growing economy.

I would avoid index funds, mutual funds, and specific stocks for the time being. Right now, the best option is a fixed income of five percent. Put money aside for the times when the market really starts to bounce back.

I wholeheartedly concur; I'm 60 years old, just retired, and have about $1,250,000 in non-retirement assets. Compared to the whole value of my portfolio during the last three years, I have no debt and a very little amount of money in retirement accounts. To be completely honest, the information provided by invt-advisors can only be ignored but not neglected. Simply undertake research to choose a trustworthy one.

Americans appear to be very patriotic with flags everywhere all the time. Does anyone notice the difference when it is a special or historical event being celebrated. It must seem like every day is a day for celebration in the US.

The comment about the Irish being as patriotic as us, in the US... well there are three little letters that a lot of people here in the US are not familiar with: IRA. I don't think we'd have the guts to do anything like that even if we needed to. I get it, IRA is a controversial topic, but it shows you that Irish are a lot more patriotic than us.

At least Ireland kept it in-house. With over a million homeless living on streets and under freeways in the US and high crime rates, with now most crimes are not even reported. In some cities with high homeless and gangs it is illegal to report crimes that involve less than $900 stolen, not counting damage to property when committing the crimes. The worst crimes however are government corruption and bribing congress where no law is passed unless paid for and those who determine what becomes law or how money is spent is entirely controlled by very wealthy and foreigner who bribe congress every day.Since citizens to have have the money to bribe, no laws in 25 years benefited normal people.

Americans have more freedom?? They certainly have more restrictive laws and fill more prisons than any other country, and one of the largest homeless populations and by far the most in-debt population and largest population with a negative net worth, it is more war like than any other country having invaded 202 times countries that did nothing to the US. Every country in South and Central America has had their leaders assassinated or coups staged by the US except 2 countries. The current war that is dividing the world was started by the US staging a violent coup that ended democracy in Ukraine and funded/equipped authentic Nazi militias that murdered 10s of thousands of Russian speakers. What freedoms do Americans have that others do not? The US was only attacked once, 1812 by the British but is hard to find countries we have not bombed, staged coups, rigged elections, or assassinated leaders. No country has attacked the US first, other than the British.

i wouldnt live in the US,,, you might get shot, or lose your job - then your medical cover, or get ill- and ending up living under a bridge like a troll.... all that continous stress cannot be healthy

It is not healthy, in fact despite the most expensive health care in the world the US is the only developed country with declining male life expectancy and only developed country with a million or more one time middle class who are homeless and the median family debt of over $355,000. I moved out of the US 24 years ago and everyone thought I was crazy to give away all my considerable assets....houses businesses , car collections, airplane etc and moved to another country and now I get emails every week asking how to move here. I had a lot to chose from of the 92 countries I had spent time in and the only one I considered I knew was about to become much more developed and wealthy, and I was right, I have only returned to California....I still own 1/2 interest in one house my sister lives in.....and have returned for short visits 5 times and each time it is shocking how much the US has declined between visits.
