@@jorgesanabria6484 Diagnostic testing is measuring your ability to solve problems beforehand related to the chapter you’re going to tackle. I usually do it using the chapter questions at the end on each chapter. It helps for identifying the prior knowledge needed and the knowledge gaps you need to fill up so you have a purpose to fulfill when you read on the chapter. It also helps in priming because you can easily identify the terms in the question that appears unfamiliar to you.

I’m taking a 3rd year course at the University of Windsor called Cognitive Processes. It’s super cool because some of the material covers what Justin talks about. Our professor talks about encoding, building on prior knowledge, relational learning, schemas, etc. It’s interesting to see that this is actually backed with scientific data.

@@g12nm u relate the topics u study about, u dont learn them one by one n isolation, u rather study them simultaneously and study the connections they might hv among each other... it helps clarifying the fundamentals of the topics

@@g12nm for dense chapters u first study the big picture, the core topics, n relate them..once u hv established a relation u go deeper n as u go, relate them to the previous layer... this is also explained by dr. sung in his previous videos, this method is known as "layering" , and plus i would like to say if u r studying for a test, just know not all topics r equal there r topics that hold more chances of getting questioned than others, focus on studying these high yield ones n leave the low yield concepts, they will get filled as u go further...sry for the late reply btw

Bonus tip honestly the best one! Take the time, learn some stuff and be comitted to one skill and be amazed on how much this will get better

I have been watching your videos for a while but I am still not able to came out from the traditional method of studying.. But this video is incredibly good especially the 1st tip. As someone who litrally like falls into depression after getting bad grades this is a lifesaver for me. Thank you very very very much as always❤🙏

I watched almost every one of your videos, thanks for sharing your knowledge, can't wait to learn more

About the 1st point about the grades-I felt it hard at the start of my medical journey and now it's my second time. When I had my 1st ever exam I thought I'm gonna get A but the night I couldn't sleep and cried because I was afraid to fail and guess-I failed,and for little extra I failed another one. I was so depressed but got up and studied because without studying I can't achieve my dream (and this is everything I wanted-to learn about human body,how does it work and how to fix it). The next semester I passed everything with As and one B and I saw thing are going good. The 2nd year was As and one B and I got scholarship. I was proud of myself but I became afraid to fail,I needed to stay at this lever,also I became a bit greedy.3rd year only As and scholarship,even happier, didn't think that something bad will happen. But now I'm in my 4th year in session and I got two As and two Bs,I was feeling miserable. But I realized because I had these grades and getting money and be one of the best among my colleagues made me egoistic and only caring for the As but not for the real reason I started studying medicine,I was studying because I wanted to show I can but not because I wanted to know this stuff and apply it in my future practice. So I want to give to all students advice not to feel study as a nightmare but as pleasure,a thing that you want to do,be curious for knowledge. Be present and when you study topics be a little bit independent, don't be afraid to have questions,find the answers,make scenarios,connect in the big picture and with manu other topics because there's logic in it but teachers/professors won't make it (nost of them teach very straightforwardly)-you have to make it,not always you'll get the best grades (just because not everything depends on you) but you learn from these mistakes, understand it how it should be and continue forward ❤ P.S. Good luck to those who have exams coming soon, you'll make it.

The number one tip I’ve gotten for learning/doing well in general is probably “embrace the struggle”. Justin talks about something similar with actual learning being uncomfortable. The math sorcerer on KZread talks about “embracing the struggle” and it’s really helped me. Now when I’m struggling to understand a concept or do a problem, that comes into my mind that ”this is it!” And it really helps motivate me to push through to understand- and it works!

I always tried to do all these things in High School but I thought I was wrong and slow. Because it took me me long to do these things and I didn't know a efficient way to get it done. I did it but didn't stick to it or started too late in the semester. I feel so vindicated by these videos sometimes. I wish I had this 30 years ago.

I tried the study buddy thing for questions but ally friends chickened out, so I gave it up,imma try it again since Justin recommends

Many years ago, I had imagined a realm and set out to acquire that realm, to make it a permanent realm. After much work, the realm came to me. But it also required that I realize reality is a choice, whether consciously or subconsciously chosen. Rarely is one gifted with a reality from early on and upon consequent achievement, we regard them to be a genius among us. We all, then, can be a genius by choosing our reality embedded in what is called 'belief'. I am a reader, a professional reader or at the least intending to be, well situated in my reading realm. Time and again, engagement take place as a break from my realm to serve the purpose of being a fellow human being. But my reading realm is the only thing that is real to me. The rest, unless there is a purpose, then may be regarded as a distraction.

It’s been 3 days and I am binge watching your videos from the very moment that I clicked one of your vid while scrolling on YT. Although that was not the 1st time that I saw that vid “the problem with active recall and spaced repetition”, in fact I first saw it last year but I ignored it back then because I was a new user and subscribed to Anki. And I haven’t utilized it that much. I am here because I really want to know what are the best strategies for learning that will work for me, I am in my 2nd year of doctorate degree and my goal was to have a passing grade, because of that I haven’t learned that much. 9:12 I think this is something that has helped me do well so far. I started the quarter off terribly due to some missed assignments and being busy with a family trip that I probably should’ve skipped. Im taking physics, differential equations and chemistry 142 and I was at like a C/B after turning stuff in late and it was a little intimidating but I knew that I still have the rest of the quarter. We’re approaching mid term and all three classes are now up to high B/A level. Not the highest, but trending up. With the assignments, I knew I wasn’t going to be able to actually learn the content and get them in on time, but would be better off actually learning the content correctly than just finding answers online and getting a good grade. Paying off now because I feel like I’m understanding the content and I’m primed to finish well.

Million dollars question: Is it possible to improve our IQ by learning a new language ?

Stop measuring learning ability based on grades and adopt a mindset shift. 1:08 Test yourself often to identify gaps in knowledge before exams. 6:01 Be critical and skeptical of everything you learn for a stronger foundation. 9:11 Set aside 30 minutes a day for priority time to learn and reflect. 16:33

6:30 Not so sure abt the study buddy thing. In law here it's more abt opinion. That's y u need an expert to grade u. It might turn out not ideal depending on ur study buddy. He'd have to be pretty good if not an actual teacher

I think you assume alot that difficulties with essays and exams are only about knowledge and how you think rather than how you right things down or how to organise an essay or write it the right way. Knowledge acquisition and integration understandung ir even in many cases application ( although harder ) is the easy bit most of the time producing it in the form the lecturers expect can be the hard bit. Sadly not all exams are vivas

@Haqueip how is this helping with the grammar and spelling I can explain the concept in a mindmap or diagrame but when ypu linearity it people seam to be awfully pernickety about commas full stops and which way round the letters go even which way round the words in a sentence go sometimes none of this should have that much impact on what you understand about a concept usually I have mears ilene the characters and punctuation move when I'm reading this has little implication foe my comprehension it's just Tiring.

14:00 it's so sad that almost no teaching body will tolerate this. Even my 50 and above profs literally sulk when u ask them abt the weaknesses of certain theories and then they someone ELSE laugh abt it they take it as an deliberate insult and literally ignore the question. Here are some of ideas of topics and tips you could deal with or talk a little bit more. 1) the notion of groups , chunks and the 2-4 rule. 2) the notion of wheel mind map, water falling mind map combined with linearity 3) the notion of laterality 4) why are the flow and the logic associated ? What does it mean to find purpose of information ? Are the flow and the directionality only given by cause and effect relationships? 5) WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF LINKS BETWEEN PIECES OF INFORMATION ? I HAVE THE IMPRESSION THAT THERE IS JUST "CAUSE AND EFFECT" RELATIONSHIP (hence your video named :"don't rely on memorisation" where you talk about concept and cause and conséquences)
