Nice tip about Google Earth. I'm going to be starting to hike in earnest in the coming year and I genuinely hadn't thought about checking Google Earth. So thanks for that one.

Enjoy, the Google Earth one comes in handy as you have a mental image of the mountain & surroundings 😁 Cheers, James
Your scratch map is looking a lot more colourful than mine so far 😎 We also have a Wainwrights scratch map for the Lake District, England, which we're working on completing this year! Love the videos, thank you.

The scratch maps are great, satisfying way to end your day scratching off the route 😁 Well done on the Wainwrights! Cheers, James
Always good to see a fellow hikers insight to how they prepare. You are quite similar to myself with the weather checks and on 1 particular morning last year I changed the Munro I had planned to another on that morning of heading out. I'm just outside Elgin so might cu on the Hills this year. Stay safe and keep enjoying our beautiful Scottish scenery

Thanks mate - yes its important to be flexible 😁 maybe see you in the hills one day! Cheers, James
I often watch Scotland’s Mountains, Charlie and Mike McCartney and Alan Gregory and have now discovered your Channel and subscribed. I now find it a must watch. Stunning scenery and format. I am looking forward to your adventures on Skye. What photographic/ recording equipment do you use? Take care when out there and I will definitely keep watching. ❤

@@ScottishMunroJourney My pleasure, James. Thank you for taking the time to reply. Stay safe out there and keep posting your delightful journey. 🥳🥳
I just started my Munro journey last September and will be back in Scotland in May and September for 2 17 day trips 😍 Too bad I live in Holland and have to take the boat to get there, but I got my trips this year planned. Thanks for your video's, helps a lot for a beginner to see what and how you do things!! Perhaps I will see you there in May 🙃

Enjoy Marcel - you must appreciate it more when you visit that way 😁 Will maybe see you here in May! 🏔
That was a fantastic video James watching here as I'm battered and rocked in hurricane winds in my DIY camper van but have wifi phew lol You should try some of those RAB stretch trousers, I swear by them. The gear you've chosen is perfect and I am delighted to see how you prepare for and pick munros lol How I do the munros is watch your videos lol and try walk in your footsteps quiet literally :) thank you so much for all the vids. Definitely an inspiration for me anyhow M THKS :)

Thanks Merky! Enjoy your trip, weather has been a bit wild recently! Cheers, James
Great video James. Like you I’m a fair weather hiker. I have all the gear for if it rains when I’m out, but I’m not in to going out in bad weather for the sake of it. It’s a lot of hard work just to see the inside of a cloud! Haha I’m looking forward to seeing your adventures this year, especially your trip to Skye. 😀🥾⛰🏴

Thanks Dave 😁 Exactly, I have all the gear but still don’t like it 😂 Plenty more adventures to come, thanks for watching! Cheers, James
All the gear in the video is linked in the description.. 📍 I will be back in the mountains for my next video 🏔 Stay safe out there, James
The G2 pant is NOT WATERPROOF. It's Gore-tex 'INFINIUM' which is a windproof softshell, it'll take a little rain but don't rely on it to keep you dry in torrential rain. If it has the black Gore-tex tag it's waterproof, if it has the white tag it's windproof.

@@ScottishMunroJourney no worries man, I see this a lot and I'm forever having to explain to folks Gore-tex doesn't automatically mean waterproof but the G2 pant is a great product 👍
Excellent video and excellent kit; wish we had that kind of kit and weather forecasts 50 years ago. 🙂 .... much safer all round. Best of luck on this year's adventures, look forward to seeing them.

Thanks Glen! I have a bit of a kit addiction at the moment 😂 bet you have seen some change in that time Cheers, James
Very interesting. Map reading, get to use the paper map so its second nature, you WILL need it one day James.
I've got those curtains.
Great idea to check Google Earth, I hadn't thought of that! When planning, I've found (from experience!) its a good idea not to be too commited to doing one particular munro, as forecasts can change so much. So I always have in mind 2 or possibly 3 munros that I'd like to do, and start checking the forecasts about 5 days out. I tend to have one west, and one east option. I often don't decide until the night before, or on the drive up in the morning; or even when I reach the car park! Please keep up the great work, these videos are an inspiration!

Thanks Duncan - 100% agree, flexibility is key 😁 The Scottish weather is so unpredictable, Cheers, James
Interesting to learn your experience and practice in these three topics central to climbing in Scotland especially as they are all services and products that are available to all free or within budget of most UK climbers. Thx for posting.
Top tips James. Like the advice on the wind, visibility and google earth. Think most walkers use the same planning for the hills but it’s brilliant to share hints and tips. Keep up the great work 👍🏻

Hi James, I'm lovin' this review of how you plan your walks and have been watching a number of your videos recently which are nothing short of excellent. In regard to the Revolution Race Gp Pro trousers do you have issues getting the end of the trousers over the tops of your boots please? I've heard this can potentially be an issue. I have the Go Pro rescue trousers and they have the zip on the side of the trouser with the studded closure which works well in regard to closure over my larger boots. Good luck with the rest of your Munro adventure, I'm currently 144 fells into the 214 Wainwright lake land challenge which I'm thoroughly enjoying. Many thanks in advance Andy H

Thanks Andy 😁 I can see how that would be an issue but they fit over my La Sportiva boots fine, a bit tighter over my other ones though.. Well done on the Wainwrights, you will be done soon 👏 Cheers, James

Hi James I love your videos. Thanks so much for making them. Am new to Munros and recently walked 2 chosen with help from you! Wondered if you can help me. Walking poles. What are the advantages? Wondering if they might help with my nervousness of descents?

Hi James. I've just purchased the same GP revolution trousers. How's the sizes on them? By going by their size guide I should need a 2xl. I've never been a 2xl lol. So I ordered the xl. If their to small I'll exchange them. Love the videos. Am hopefully bagging a munro next Fri. Hopefully I'll have the trousers by then.

@Scottish Munro Journey yea I got a pair. Their are fantastic. Loving the videos. Helps me out for planning my munro journey. Going up to the wee buchaille next week. Depending on weather.
Hi James, I’ve just taken delivery of a pair of Trango Towers. Lovely looking boot, and super comfortable, until… When walking, there is a pinch point on my high foot/low leg where the laces are. Does this go away when wearing the boots in. A real shame if I have to send the boots back!! Thanks, Jan

Hi Jan, they are great boots! Never experienced a pinch point with my pair, maybe try lacing up a different way? Might be worth trying them out a few more times just incase they need breaking in 😁 Good luck! cheers, James
