How I Power Carved a Bread Bowl
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Howdy! I have been doing a lot of power carving lately, mostly adding texture to some of the pieces I create. But today I am going to switch it up. You see, I have always wanted a bread bowl so I am going to show you how I completely carved a bread bowl… no lathe required, no special skills! Just a few of my Saburrtooth burrs! #powercarving #breadbowl #woodworking

Such a pretty bowl! I'm inspired to make something similar. I have an angle grinder, but it's huge for my hands. Do you use Milwaukee? What model do you use that works well for you? I need to get some good shaping disks and or bowl shapers to use with the angle grinder as well. Thanks for sharing videos of your process.😊❤
Nice job! Love that you mixed woods…i think it makes for a great piece and a story! I love when people ask me about the woods i use. Gotta plane that wood though or you will have some issues down the road.

You do beautiful work! You have a good eye for form. The only thing I would have done differently is I would have securely attached the pieces of wood together with biscuits or dowels in addition to the glue.

Thanks! I don’t think dowels or biscuits are necessary. The glue is plenty strong… but you do you! 🍊

I hold cutting boards together with Titebond glue... it is more than adequate for a breadbowl like this.

Nice. I just started this particular branch of woodworking myself. Look at all that dust on the drive! FYI… all, and I repeat… ALL, modern finishes are food safe once cured.

I stopped because you are an attractive woman lol. Then you blew mind with how great this project came out. I just carved out my first bowl and I am getting out my Wen carver and adding some carving texture. I appreciate you keeping it simple too.

So just curious if you used wet or dry wood. Wondering if the tools you used would work in both. I just picked up some fresh cut elm and I want to make a bowl. What is your opinion on whether the carving tools will work on wet wood. Thanks

This was dry. And I’m sure the tools will work in wet wood. Good luck with your project. 🍊

I think it is beautiful and love the idea to add texture to the outside. Quick question- I noticed some cracks at one end on the handle area. This is not a criticism, I happen to like the look, but my concern is cracking in the bowl area. Was the wood dry to begin with or was it fairly fresh-cut boards? I want to try this but not sure if I can carve greenwood or does it have to be dry?
@TheAwesomeOrange

Thank you! The wood was dry. I haven’t tried carving anything wet or green before. 🍊
I think it turned out really nice, Sadie. I love the texturing you added. I breaks up what would have been a rather monotonous piece. Keep up the great work, kiddo! Billy

Great video! Belts & Boxes showed you doing this project on this weeks show and here I’m hitting that subscribe button again... I think I hit it back when you did that sweet Makita die grinder project (I don’t understand why the algorithm never popped your show up again). I think I’m really going to dig your channel. Question how do you like your Makita Random orbital sander?

Thanks! I’m glad you found me. I really like the Makita sander... I’ve tried a couple of different ones and it is my favorite from the big box stores. 🍊
Wonderful work, stunning design. What is the exact size (length, width and height) of this bread bowl?

I love on the east side so I like to go to Timber in Mesa. But Hardwoods or Petermans on the west side are good too. And I’d love to see a pic of your bread bowl when you are done. 🍊
Why didn't you use the drill press to drill out most of the wood for the bowl and then shift back to the carver?
@TheAwesomeOrange
3 жыл бұрын
Because I e never done thus before... but I think that is a great idea. It would be easier to get a consistent thickness on the bottom. 🙌🍊
Where do you find wood this size?
