How I Plan On Getting My Groove Back | Practice Like A Pro

Спорт

As I'm preparing for a hiatus from tournament golf, I'm using this time to create a plan for exactly how I will return to competition and be... COMPETITIVE! I break down 3 pillars (Equipment, Technique, Mental Game) that I will focus on and I hope you can use these pillars for looking into your own improvement plan!

    Another great video Andrew. There’s been a few recently that just feel so raw! I watched that same Peter Finch video and put it into practice with great results over the weekend. Don’t know why but totally forgot about it for my 9 with the wife this evening. Been wondering for the last hour why it felt like so much more of a struggle this evening and I think it was that.: Too much Ego not enough questions and Mastery.

    I think mental is a big part of golf and especially in your case playing at that level. I hope you figure it out!! I watched Peter's video and it is something I am trying to do cause I concentrate too much on score!! I know I can play better than I having been doing lately. Let's hope we get to the places we want to be!!

    Gotta work on my “if I don’t feel confident over the ball, step away” thing. I constantly feel like I’m being rushed to hit the shot when, in reality it’s all in my head. I have time, I can reset, I can take a breather to hit a better, more confident shot. Trust the system not the outcome. Thanks man!

  • @ericpoirier2895

    Totally agree! I managed to do that with my putting a while back. Finally convinced my brain that 4 seconds longer over a putt you make takes a lot less time than 2 more putts. For some reason still feel the pressure to rush on most other shots. Why!? So I can go wait in the fairway for the group ahead??? Admittedly rushing gives me more time to go look in the woods... which I never would’ve been in if I hadn’t rushed. Such a wonderfully frustrating game!

    I’m not sure if this would help you with the mental game but staying in the present and focus on the process not the result on the course. What do I mean by that? When you get up to a drive for example just worry about making the motion/ move you are wanting to make in your swing and if you make the move you want and not worry about where it goes then it will help with the anxious feeling on where the ball is gunna go. You can worry about ball flight or trouble when you’re over the ball just worry about making the move you want and accept it. Easier said then done but try it and you’d rather be happy making the move you want then guiding it and trying to finesse it in there. Hope this helps! Good luck

    Hi Andrew Again good video! Just some input from the view point of a coach. You mentioned three points 1 equipment 2 mechanics 3 mental. All good points for sure! If I were to work on something in your case it would be your mechanics. I say this because of your comments about the early dumping of the club which you say creates the high wedge shot with little spin. As you know spin requires good compression of the ball which doesn't happen when you have an early release of the club. May suggest that you take a look at the European golfers they are able to flight the ball better than most. With this ability they have the shots they need when they need it. This helps them to deal with the mental stress of having to make a shot that they may not have. This is where I see some concern with your game. I have mentioned in the past about your proximity to the hole is a concern. Can I suggest the ladder drill on course where you work on distances that you have on your normal par fours. And focus on your ability to flight the ball better. In this way you will not be trying to make a shot work, but will have the shot that you need at the right time. I hope this is helpful, we all want you to do well! Thanks again for your videos Dale

    My biggest issue is after working with my teacher, I will hit the ball great for a few weeks. Then, like a light switch, it goes away completely and it is like I have reverted back to my old issues. Very frustrating. I'm not sure if this is mainly mental or not. Lots of good info in this video. Thanks!

    Maybe the questions are key, you said you play so free when you are filming maybe it’s because you are “asking” or subconsciously thinking what is this shot going to look like on camera. It comes across on your videos like you are very sharp and a mentally strong person so it doesn’t make sense you have a “bad mental game” in comps. just need to find the right approach. I also might not have any idea what I’m talking about but this is the best channel for golf on KZread good luck!!

    Hi, Andrew wondering do you have on tips on how to start playing well when playing poorly on the course Last few competitions have struggled to keep focused and concentrated when playing bad and resulted in a few bogeys in a row I get nervous at the start but doesn't bother me when I am out swinging and playing Costs me 3/4 shots

  • @MrRockso99
    @MrRockso994 жыл бұрын

    Check out “your fifteenth club” by dr bob rotella(if you haven’t already). Talks about building “self confidence” vs “swing confidence”. Swing confidence is not what you are after. You are trying to build confidence in your ability to score even if you don’t have your best stuff, and a belief in your overall abilities to eventually be successful. That lets you start to be accepting of whatever the outcome of the shot is, and focus on sticking to your routine, getting 100% into your target, and trying to execute as best you can uninhibited by stress/fear/anxiety about what might happen when you swing. Sounds like you might already be familiar with it though. Nevertheless it’s a good read and I’d recommend it to anybody.

    So golf is a game i play for fun, poker is the game i play for real. Something i fall back on when im down or when im questioning myself in a poker tournament is i try to remember im here because i can win. I bought in with money i won anyway. If i lose, no harm no foul. I went from 5$ home games to 500$ world series tournaments in vegas for a reason. And when i tell myself if i just get out of the way and let it happen i perform alot better. Maybe consider a tournament bankroll and play some softer tournaments to grow that bankroll and see if you can run it up to buy in to a big game without spending out of poket. Then you can just go have fun and not care about the result. Not have the weight on your shoulders and have the feeling of winning fresh on the mind. Idk just some ideas.

    Not entirely sure, but wouldn't a flighted wedge be a result of the swing rather than the shaft. I know that they are lots of spinner shafts that are supposed to lower the traj, however, I'm not sure if the shaft makes that much of a difference.

  • @andrewjensengolf

    @andrewjensengolf

    Shaft has sooo much to do with launch. I can flight a wedge, that’s not the issue, the issue is the launch is too high to begin with so my flighted wedge is closer to a stock trajectory

    🤔🧐, why would you wanna full swing any wedge tho? .... , 122, fairway lie, great conditions, and simple green. That's a green light to flight a 52deg. With sawed off finish action, to control flight and throw sauce on the ball. A 54dg full shot with Hope's and aspirations of it dunking in is ..... not pro like, that's regular joe stuff. Just look at yourself, your throwing a wedge up in the air, hoping it just land vs having a action that shows your in control of trajectory, flight, and spin. You in the fairway, not the rough.
